Really disappointed in how the business is conducting itself. Transparency was needed in this situation to help ppl make better decisions in their lives
I grew up in Denver and Casa Bonita was absolutely the ONLY place anyone ever wanted to go for their birthdays. I'm old enough that I remember Casa Bonita before Black Bart's Hideout. I remember when they expanded the back of the restaurant to add that. Funny thing, it's in a strip mall in a pretty bad neighborhood, and always was.
Yeah getting worse.... Homeless people hanging out, methheads.... Having lots of cheap motels nearby is not helping either.... Yet you go few blocks and you see remodeled homes.....
As a native of Denver, I can explain some of the mystic around Casa Bonita. Yes, the food is about the equivalent of a TV dinner. There's 100 Mexican restaurants in Denver that are better, but you don't go to Casa Bonita for the food, you go for the experience. It's life cycle restaurant meaning you go as a child/teenager with the family, then you get in your 20s/30s and don't go there for about 15 years or so and then if you have kids, you go again.
I grew up going here alot. I think it's crazy that the south park creators ended up saving it. After going to real authentic Mexican restaurants I realized the food there isn't Mexican at all and much closer to Taco Bell's "Mexican food". But it will still always hold a special place in my heart as a Colorado treasure.
I went there with my brother while we were driving cross country in 1979. Our dad had suggested we stop there. We had a table in the Cliff Area, where we had a great view of the divers. I remember you just had to raise a flag at your table to signal you wanted more food. My brother who has always had a humongous appetite, raised the flag twice!
I remember going here as an incredibly young child, maybe three or four and just being amazed with everything. I had forgotten all about it as my family moved away from Denver and almost had believed it was all a dream as a kid, until i saw the south park episode yearssss after it had aired now all i hope is to one day be living comfortable enough to make a trip back out there to see it again
When you aren’t from the area, the day you discover Casa Bonita is a real place is very spiritual and astounding; Like the birth of a child, but with Black Bart’s Cave and cliff-divers.
You nailed it. I thought it was some cheesy themed restaurant in a bad neighborhood made up by Tray and Matt. Learning it actually exists made me want to fly out to Denver exclusively to visit Casa Bonita.
I mean... 1- it’s extremely tiring. Imagine having to jump for like 2 hours straight without taking a break. Your legs will get fatigued. 2- it’s risky and dangerous. 3- I bet the dudes who jump don’t get paid a lot. Maybe a bit over minimum wage. It aint much, but it’s honest work. Put some respek on it.
We have a place in Latvia that's basically the same but built around traditional Latvian culture. Also a dimly lit, cozy environment, traditional folk outfits and music, all build within a large mansion with a windmill at one end, and surrounded by a yard full of various attractions and activities. It's called LIDO. Very wholesome place for the whole family.
This place is stuck in my head! I went as kid because I had family in Colorado and it was my birthday. I always remembered the cliff divers, but couldn't remember the name of the place. Seeing the headlines that South Park creators bought the place brought me back to childhood memories. I thought it was the coolest place in the world as a kid.
@@nope1083 at the time this was written the tv special was going viral about the fake North Korean fast food chains their media was trying to display to the public. They looked eerily similar to Casa Bonita. Just to give some context to this original comment...
I've been going there since i was a kid. I'll be 40 this year. Hearing about Matt and Trey buying the place is super exciting. Once they open up for food again, I'm going back. Maybe I'll reserve Cartman's table?
Well, as you all know, Matt & Trey are seriously trying to by this place since it declared bankruptcy recently. Their first order of the day if they get it? To GREATLY improve the quality of the food. 🙂
Campy, loud, flashy, and full of things to do PLUS cheapo Mexican food. What kid in the world would not love to go here? On top of that, all the employees seemed genuinely happy to work there, which is an incredibly rare thing to see in a restaurant. Unfortunately, as per usual on Munchies, so much hate in the comments. A candid look on a bit of family-style Americana that has reached cult status in the last 10 years. Perfect Vice material, IMO. If there is any chef or restaurant staff young or stylish, they are branded as a hipster and not taken seriously. Anyone genuine and old-fashioned, is branded as depressing or outdated. Get over yourselves and accept the fact that good food and good cooking comes from a variety of sources and approaches.
Good food and good cooking come from great ingredients. It's not good to eat anywhere they can't make the junk look good in professionally photographed films and stills. I wouldn't eat it. Where I come from, even the American Mexican food is great.
Wow, I can certainly see why Cartman loves that place. I'm 20 and I think that place looks awesome, too bad that the food is supposedly shit. I'd still very much like to visit it some day even though the food is shit.
The enchiladas aren’t too bad. It’s kinda sad to see how far it’s fallen though. The last time I went, around 2 years ago, it was practically empty. I grew up going there, so I really hope somebody comes in and fixes it’s issues before it can’t support itself anymore.
Chevy sucks now myself personally, even though the food may not be up to par, but I’d come all the way from Cali just for the fun and experience. Plus, this was from friggin south park! Was shocked to see this actually existed! So would I still go? You damn right!
Casa Bonita is known locally as a really fun place to take friends from out of time, but we locals know that the food is really awful compared to other Mexican places in town. I mean, you can have a better meal at Taco Bell.
fuqq taco bell, u must never been to the joint and didn't have money for canteen on your books, you'd be more grateful if you ever went down state for a bid.
As Mexican I could say that taco bell isn't true Mexican food. Casa Bonita (for the little I know) is more accurate if you say that is Mexican food . How it tastes? Sadly I won't know because I never went to casa Bonita . But if you are interested in Mexican food you could do: Pozole Mole de olla Enchilada Tlayudas Pambazos Pescadillas (fish quesadillas ) Chiles rellenos Zucchini with Oaxaca cheese and beef meat

Don't feel bad. It's been 40 years since I last visited a Casa Bonita (in Tulsa), and I'm just now discovering that there's still a location in business.

Imagine working there for 21 years and still being a server. Robbie hall and Mike Mason still hold there position at this establishment. They are giving employee's their checks with no money in the bank. The lack of transparency from the accounting department is appalling. Yeah go spend your money there if you want. Really disappointed in how the business is conducting itself. Transparency was needed in this situation to help ppl make better decisions in their lives
They got rid of the fire jugglers a few years ago for failing fire code.
I love how completely unimpressed the manager looks when he is talking about the Cartman table.
Chuck M i would do that but only at a Waffle House...
Real talk: this place filed for bankruptcy, and there are rumors Parker and Stone may buy it
This is why I'm here. The official South Park Facebook just posted Matt and Trey are officially attempting to buy Casa Bonita
That is good news. I hope to visit this place before I die.
It's official as of today, they're buying it!

It's amusing to see people watching this video because of today's news

Alex: ‘hahah no!’
