Brings back memories from my childhood growing up in Lakewood. Back in the 70's visiting Casa Bonita was such an entertaining experience but the food was mediocre at best. I think it's a wise move on their part to restore the original ambience but at the same time drastically change and improve the quality of the food being served.
I was born in 1970. We moved from New York in 1975 to Denver, CO. I lived on Corona off Colfax for a year, then we moved to a place near the Botanical Gardens for a year, then we moved to Lakewood in 1978. (I went to Green Mountain Elementary school from '78 to '82, then Dunstan Jr. High '82-'83 before moving back to NY). I do not remember where I lived when we went to Casa Bonita, but I absolutely remember going there once or twice and distinctly remember the divers. That place was amazing! I hadn't thought about it in forever, then when South Park mentioned it I was like, "OMG! They know about that place from my childhood!" I have no memory of the food -- other than that it was Mexican, right?
They should name all the actual good items "the children's menu" consisting of like 80% of the options, and for the regular menu try to recreate the experience, for the folks who already don't have so many years left. Maybe Jamie Oliver will visit to gawk and aghast.
Knowing that South Park will be around for years to come is so comforting to me. It's been a part of my life since I was 10 and has brought me so much joy and laughter.
I’m about the same. Some kids at school wouldn’t stop saying how funny it was so I had my mom put the new episode that was on that night. My first episode was chefs salty balls lol.

@@nokom1354 I feel there's a big difference between creating something based on where you're from, and actually giving credit to and appreciating where you're from. Matt and Trey have never given the vibe of using their hometown for profit, it's always come from a place of love.
I’m sure many towns and cities have unique places that have played a special role in the community’s social history and that then have become dilapidated with time and often demolished. That could have easily become the case with Casa Bonita. Glad it’s going to come back to life.
A town of less than 200 hundred, we had a nice bar and grille, had to shut down before I even got to legal age because it was too old and to bring its plumbing and other stuff up to code would have cost the owners too much, so it's gone. All the other local eateries are gone now. We just have microbrews and wineries for the gentrified tourists. Priced out for townies. Sadpanda.
My hometown had a drive-in movie theater next to water slides and miniature golf. First the theater went. Then the water slides. The min golf held out a lot longer but it's gone now too. Now there's a Burger King and other fast food. Healthy alternative. But Covid really killed a lot of stuff more recently.
These guys have always made me laugh, but what really impressed me was the season that South Park became gentrified. OMG. I was living in the Casa Bonita neighborhood, and that was my life. It means a lot that people who care about Colorado are investing in the neighborhood and just creating some joy for everyone.
Matt and Trey were the only human’s that successfully communicated to the Merkel’s how they were actually being perceived. And they changed their marketing, thank god.
Matt and Trey had to assure people this was not a joke. The constant problem comedians have is convincing people they are serious when they're being serious.
This warms my heart! I remember as a kid waiting for what felt like hours to get in to this place to eat. I went before Covid, and you could tell the restaurant was in its last legs. This place is sooo iconic and nostalgic, I’m glad they are bringing it back
Thank you for rescuing my childhood favorite place. My grandparents always took us kids there, the drive from Manitou Springs gave us plenty time to get super excited! I can't wait to see it now!
One night, as my husband was watching South Park, I became very amused by the characters excitement about going to Casa Bonita. I told him I could understand 100% because that's exactly how we felt as kids anytime we went. He was stunned that it was, in fact, a real place. The food was awful, but those sopapillas??? Perfecto!

Casa Bonita is one of my favorite episodes of SP. I just recently found out that it was and now back is a real place. Definitely visiting it next time I am in the states.
As a kid growing up in the Denver area, Casa Bonita was ALWAYS a special treat. Running around, visiting all of the variously themed dining areas (the caves were my favorite), interacting with the costumed characters, and of course the sopapillas and honey. My family always chose the terraces to sit in and the decorations and the lights were magical to me as a child. I don't remember the food being bad (definietly no worse than a certain mexican fast food restaurant) and it was the place you ALWAYS wanted to go to as a child for your birthday. I am VERY glad it will live on enchanting kids and making memories.
Yay. I literally had one of my birthdays here. Got to sit by the waterfall and a beautiful diving lady came up and talked to us and I think we got a free cake. Good times.
cant thank you enough for doing this. Ive been in love with this place since a day back in 2001 my brother showed me its existence while visiting him on my way home from living in California.
I fixed guitars for the band leader in the early 2000’s, Phil Marin. Every time I would bring the kids to eat there he would buy us dinner and then have me sit in with the band! Phil was immortalized in the South Park episode as the band leader in the cartoon.
I went to my friends birthday party there for the first time in 1972. I couldn't understand why everyone was so excited about going to a restaurant in Denver, but I soon found out. I've went back several times, and in the 90's I took my nephew and niece there, but the food had gotten really bad, so it's good to hear they are going to improve it.
I grew up in denver and remember how special Casa Bonita was. I would fly home to re-visit this place and see what they've done to restore it. The last time I went there was 20 years ago, and the food was so bad that it was literally inedible. You take your food to your table and just leave it there, uneaten. Would've made more sense for them to just charge admission instead of making you buy that slop just to throw it away.
I went there in 2015 and it was clearly run down and almost empty. It was sad to see all the elements being there, but them either being bad or just not working. With these guys in charge, I am sure that the restaurant will go from a bad joke, back to a good one. It's a really cool thing they are doing.

YES! this!
i went 5 years ago and got diarrhea
you boys would not like what Colfax has turned into 😂
I absolutely love everything these guys do. They just cannot fail.
Knowing that South Park will be around for years to come is so comforting to me. It's been a part of my life since I was 10 and has brought me so much joy and laughter.
Will you be going to casa bonita to eat some tacos
10?! That’s surprising.
@Ranel Gallardo it's not I've been watching South Park since I was 6
I’m about the same. Some kids at school wouldn’t stop saying how funny it was so I had my mom put the new episode that was on that night. My first episode was chefs salty balls lol.
@@ranelgallardo7031 to be fair the South Park kids are also 10
My mom took me here in 1995. Thanks so much for making sure others can enjoy this place guys.
The episode aired 20 years ago????? Man I gotta get my life together lol
Your life is fine and by proxy,so is mine. But depressing, two decades ago. We're not kids anymore.
Nah chill bro chill.
Went there when it first opened, with my classmates, in the 70’s. I was in junior high. It was fun & magical! Great memory 😊
Took my kids there a few times. Thanks for helping Casa Bonita stay open.
I had my 5th and 10th birthdays at Casa Bonita, it was such a huge part of my childhood
If you’re a Colorado kid, you’re memories of Casa Bonita are solidly the best thing ever. Trey and Matt know from their childhood.
If I ever have an opportunity to thank them in person for preserving it for my children I most certainly will. 😊
You won't have the opportunity, don't worry :)
*your
What i love the most about matt and trey, is that no matter how successful they’ve been with all of their endeavors, they’ve never forgotten where they came from
how can they forget where they came from? they're literally living from a tv show about where they came from !
@@nokom1354 I feel there's a big difference between creating something based on where you're from, and actually giving credit to and appreciating where you're from. Matt and Trey have never given the vibe of using their hometown for profit, it's always come from a place of love.
Those guys are national treasures.
Sadpanda.
Yes I miss showbiz pizza and pizza and pipes! I wish they were still in my town.
@@stormtempterf8058that sounds like opportunity knocking! Start with a food truck and build from there.
Canadian here - I plan on going to Colorado to the first time just to visit this restaurant
My grandparents always took us kids there,
the drive from Manitou Springs gave us plenty time to get super excited!
I can't wait to see it now!
I got to go there a few times coming up. Took my kids there years ago. So delighted they saved and improved it. Thank you Matt and Trey!
One night, as my husband was watching South Park, I became very amused by the characters excitement about going to Casa Bonita. I told him I could understand 100% because that's exactly how we felt as kids anytime we went. He was stunned that it was, in fact, a real place. The food was awful, but those sopapillas??? Perfecto!
My friend who is a huge South Park fan move to Aurora in late 2019 and went to Casa Bonita with his girlfriend when she was visiting right before it close in March 2020 and they both said the food was the most awfully thing they ever add but they enjoy the experience. He excited they upgraded everything including the food and he planning of taking me when I go visiting him next year
To bad the left fears south park lol
@@jimdoe3288you know south park makes fun of conservatives a lot too right?

Beeb there so many times when my son was growing up he is now 35 he has never forgotten casa bonita TY for coming back.🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🦋
I never treated them buying casa as a joke, Matt and Trey are that beautiful breed of jester that has also a serious business acumen, I have no doubt in their abilities.
👏👏👏
These 2 gentlemen are national treasures and must be protected at all cost
Are you still reading dr. suess? Wake up
Love South Park and love those creators for saving Casa Bonita!
Behind the irony, sarcasm, and offensive stuff that is South Park, there's this great core of love behind it. I see that now.
I can't wait to go. Owning a restaurant I know the hardships to come. Everything these guy's touch turns to gold. It's going to be awesome!
Yay. I literally had one of my birthdays here. Got to sit by the waterfall and a beautiful diving lady came up and talked to us and I think we got a free cake. Good times.
So nice that these two buddies, after building an entertainment empire, are still two buddies at heart and work together.
Thank you so much for giving back to your community and making something everyone can come enjoy!
I wish these guys success and happiness for their community.
cant thank you enough for doing this. Ive been in love with this place since a day back in 2001 my brother showed me its existence while visiting him on my way home from living in California.
Love that there is ONLY ONE Casa Bonita. It’s one of a kind kitsch makes it so beloved.
There were at one point five of them and they were all built by hand with no blueprints from what I understand.
I cannot wait to visit when you guys open!!!!!! I visited Denver for a concert and was thinking about casa Bonita the whole time!
Instant gem anytime these two legends actually sit down for an interview. 😂
I found out today that Casa Bonita is a real place. I watched that South Park episode about it when I was about 9 years old lol.
I was able to go last night with the family. Really a great experience!
Are early tickets already being fulfilled?! I gotta go eat at Casa Bonita 🤩
The fact that they can afford to make their favorite childhood hangout anew, is what success is all about.
YES! Did any current rich people used to love Shakey’s? Lol
The fact they feel like making episodes is is not only fun but HEALTHY after doing it for so long is an awesome thing to hear.
I can’t wait to go there when it opens!
I moved to Utah this year and I’m so happy I’m within a days drive to Casa Bonita.
SOUTH PARK IS THE BEST SHOW TO EVER AIR ON TELEVISION!!!!
It really is, for so many reasons
By far, the best comedy as well. Nothing holds a flame
Futurama is much better.
@@autofocus4556 Futurama was good because it took over the golden era of the simpsons. It started right when the simpsons got worse and it ended on a peak. We dont really know what would have happened with Futurama if they continued to air with new episodes after 2013... Im excited to see if they can maintain the old writing quality with their reboot and season 11 next month. But imo South Park is by far the best longest ongoing cartoon/comedy show out there.
My heroes and idols. I can remember watching the first episode, I wad in 3rd grade and remember my older brother coming to get me and we snuck downstairs to watch it 😅 miss you little big brother RIP
The narrated voice segments make this clip sound like an important historical documentary… maybe cuz it is 🤷♂️
I love their devotion to Colorado humor. My dad started taking us to Casa Bonita back in 1992 when we moved to Parker.
As a European I had no idea what Casa Bonita was until South Park introduced me to it. And it remains one of my favorite episodes. The sadistic joy I felt when Cartman locked Butters down in the bunker lol
Are u German?
@@jpmorgan3891 "Nordic Gaming" I don't think he's German.
@@jpmorgan3891 Yup. I added "Nordic" in my username just for fun.
Nothing beats watching Butters get bullied. That nerd brings it on himself.
@@nordicgaming2572 I was joking about asking you if you were German because of your "sadistic joy about cartman locking butters in the bunker" .......butters is the sweetest most innocent character in cartoon history ...😂I felt bad for butters that he got locked in a bunker for a week because cartman wanted to manipulate Kyle into going to CASA BONITA ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS ASK BUTTERS and I'm pretty sure butters would have just given him his spot on the trip .. 😂 😂 😂 lol....
This is pretty cool. I was living in lakewood when casa Bonita opened.
We lost the Casa Bonita in Little Rock, AR years ago. It was my first job at 14yo.
giving back - one of their favorite childhood destinations and the inspiration of one of their most iconic episodes - great job guys
Coming from Houston and being a life-long fan of South Park, I will have to visit Casa Bonita if I'm ever in Denver one day.
This is going to make my Colorado trip even better
As a Colorado native I remember going to casa Bonita as a child
Glad to see some real and good news from NBC.
I'm glad they incorporate so much of life as a kid in Colorado into their stories and even go the extra mile to preserve some of it.
2 of the Greatest Men on this Planet!!! Decades of making me laugh and still going. Doing good things in the community also👍✌️🙏
I never thought of Trey Parker and Matt Stone buying CasaBonita as a joke. They're litterally saving that place when it shut down because of Covid.
This is just too awesome!! Im glad the South Park creators bought and saved Casa Bonita 😊
Growing up in Denver, been to Casa Bonita many, many times between 1978 and 1998. I never thought the food was as bad as some others might say, but then I've always enjoyed Mexican TV dinners...Great memories. Thanks Matt and Trey!
I thought this restaurant was just something made for the tv show. Now that I know it actual exists I want to visit it so badly. It looks like a great place to bring your family.
I have going there since a kid in the 1970s, then I took my kids there numerous times in the '90s and 2000s. We never tired of it, always loved going there, and spent hours there each time. For my family, it truly is a very memorable part of our lives. It truly was a great place to go as a family. Two of my cousins worked there, way back in their teen years.
We are from Alabama, and keep checking the udates, this is on our bucket list.
True Kings of the modern era
I went and ate here as a kid. I remember the actors having a gunfight and one actor falling into the water after getting shot. It was awesome!
love these guys
Most of the places I enjoyed or have fond memories of from the 90s and 00s are either gone or renovated/repurposed beyond recognition. I cant even put into words how cool it is to have ONE place that holds so many special memories to me be preserved by Matt and Trey! What srand up freiken guys, i am so excited to visit soon
Love them or hate them, Trey and Matt brought back a huge landmark for Denver. Also, gave people jobs and guests experiences that remind them of childhood. I just hope they sell South Park casa Bonita merch 😂
I hope they have the South Park characters like Disney World does for with Mickey and the gang. 😂
First visited Casa Bonita in 1975 for a high school field trip. Can’t wait to revisit!
I love these two guys so much
This makes the casa bonita episode so much better
I had a vague memory of going to dinner with my grandmother as a young kid, probably around 1984. The only things that I remembered were the cliff divers and sopapillas, but no idea what it was called or if I just dreamed it. Thanks to these guys I know where it was and I hope I can take my kids someday.
I'm not in Colorado but I'm definitely taking my whole family here on a vacation weekend!!!
