- A mother-daughter duo have reached the edge of space, making history aboard a Virgin Galactic flight.
Keisha Schahaff from Antigua won the prize while flying to the UK, where her daughter is studying, and they were joined on the space flight by former British Olympic canoeist Jon Goodwin, 80.
At the peak of their flight - which was the first commercial space flight with a tourist on board - they were able to see the curvature of the Earth and the black of space, while also experiencing zero gravity.
The crew has now landed safely back in the US, and with more than 800 similar tickets sold, these flights could become much more common.

Sounds like it went better than a visit to the Titanic
Take the win!!!
Diversity box ticked.
Why is it only ok for white people to do these things without all the diversity bs talk but not POC?
They won a competition……yeah right…what are the odds on that. 😂😂
Why does this story have any merit?
Calling this 5 minute trip to "space" as space travel is like calling jumping on a trampoline "flying"
If it was a father and son Beeb wouldn't even blink - really need the hated Licence Tax to end
Well done Richard Branson and all the crew of Virgin Galactic 👍
I would love to see three of the top "flat earthers" invited up!
They wouldn't do it, the flat earthers would be too paranoid and more importantly would be too afraid of being proven wrong
@@VOAxInsanityI would kidnap them and force them to do it ahhaha
They said they couldn't see the curve on last months flight. Wonder where they all are today 😂❓
They would think that they were just dropped in some warehouse set in Hollywood
Flat Earthers don't exist. It's just trolls and people with mental illnesses.
First we had "Hair- the Musical" and now we have "Hair- the Spaceflight". Congratulations everybody. It looks amazing.
Who cares? They "made history" by being passengers and doing nothing.
How about commenting on and congratulating all the brilliant minds that got them there instead?
We first put primates in space in 1946🤔🤔🤔
Reminiscent of that titanic submarine
Hopefully it won’t turn out to be like the Titan one day!
So cool 👏🏼. This seems like ot would be a great experience
They didn't go to space! Space starts at 100km!
Nobody cares about your opinion.
So they didn't make it to the Karman Line (100 km)?
88km this time. So no. But the view is almost the same.
that's flippin awesome
Sorry, but this is not space
Awesome 🤩
I would love to go aboard the Virgin Galactic. But I will never get this opportunity because this is only a rich person's trip.
It's an expensive venture to conduct. Maybe if you save up some money you might be able to afford a flight in the future when the price comes down.
Maybe sell your kidney
Or sell somebody’s kidneys lol
@@URBeingLiedTo Look bloke. I wouldn't be able to save that up in a life time. Everyone isn't rich like the ones that went on this flight. I'll be dead by the time the price comes down and then it would still be too expensive. Damn, I have been retired long before Virgin Gallactic came into existence. I would have to win a huge lottery, so get a reality check and then take a hike.
So was the first generation of air travel.
someone should have told the women to tie their freaking hair back, that's three mops taking up all the space 😆
Clearly the correct colour. No one can whine about this….😂
Congratulations on a successful flight 🚀👍👍👍
I'm speechless! The story of how they win the tickets! Congrats! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
We've been putting primates into space since 1946....
@@JamesSmith-qs4hx the first primate was Yuri Gagarin, though, if you mean by "we" the West. But this gorgeous looking , young, space woman should be included in Nasa's Artemis programme as a future astronaut. Best wishes to her 🎉
Yuri was a human my dear. @@kavorka8855
I mean it's hard to understand why things are going backwards to much!@@kavorka8855
On the subamarine we had a father and his son...
Huge congratulations to both of you.
Both ?? There were three passengers ...
@@wingaard I think the comment refers to the mother and daughter only.
Congratulations for what? They didn't do anything except sit in a seat.
@@_ArsNova True!
There goes the Stratosphere.....🤔
Nothing historic about it!
Sorry how have this mother and daughter made history?
They black.
@MongooseJeffOfficial Ah yes, I forgot this was the BBC and the colour of someone's skin is now the most important thing about them
@@knockedoutloaded they QUEENS
It's just a saying people overuse to sensationalise something.
I thought it was because they are poor (compared to the rich people) 😂😂😂 won the tickets like Charlie from Willie Wonka 😂😂.
Funny how people who have a certain skin colour make history when they do the exact same brand new activity a white person is doing, makes no sense! Black people have gone to space before, how is this history?
Why every time they actually get out there you cant see the stars?
Because they always do it at day
I’m finding new meaning to “ I couldn’t give a rats butt”!
Someone called these passengers astronauts - that's like calling a chiropractor a doctor.
Yeah explain that flat earthers
Explain what? A propaganda of lies?
If there was any flight, it never left air space. GE, outer space, gravity are just delusional fantasies.
Reminds me of that tragedy
I noticed the Antiguan Flag
What a load of virtue signalling
Wow how much did they pay to be up their??
''Mother and daughter make history in Virgin Galactic space flight''!
Clearly some people might have a lot of money.
But sadly common sense does necessarily come with money!
This Virgin Galactic space flight is a total waste of money!@!!
Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement
In space. With air pods…..
Nice.
Historic space flight
How did they make history? For that they have done a great publicity campaign?
I can just imagine three crashed aliens on earth stealing Bransons spaceship with the hope of getting home again.
The look of disappointment on their faces would be priceless 😂
Wow
50+ years since the Moon Landing and still only in Low Earth Orbit lol
Cost of Liviing crisis eh lol
Seems like only know you discovered the difference between rich and poor and that there are different social classes. Congratulations!
Great! 😊 Nice positive news.
Say it to all those private jet users,LMAO...
what's the fascination? Just another space flight from yet another US space company.
One giant leap for 'space hair.
'Here baby there momma... everywhere daddy daddy'.
Viewers are seeing what they are seeing but with less risk and at no cost.
What an amazing experience. I have a smile glued to my face
Hard to imagine what it must be like...
I would be scared in this situation
Same here 🙈
Wow 😮
So we have to cut flights in order to save the planets and some people will just travel to space
How much how much I will be needing three tickets my wife and I and our dog 🐶.
Wowie
Untrained, amateur tourists who won their seats in a lottery, are now flying into low earth orbit on a rocket that is equipped with sensitive, complex electronics and navigation systems, This rocket is carrying tons of highly volatile rocket fuel. What could possibly go wrong?
There goes the Stratosphere....🤨
They were chosen because space is black.
Congrats to both women!
Why, They ve not achieved anything. They are from Antigua, not UK.
Congrats for buying tickets and turning up on time. So historic i doubt any of us will forget!
100 years from now when there are space elevators it will only take electricity to go in space.
Splendid work. Well done.
I thought Virgin galactic went under
Did you check the chinaware?
*During their 90 min flight, 540 starving children died of hunger. During their 5 mins of weightlessness, 30 children died of hunger. A $200,000 Virgin Galactic Ticket would have fed 13,330 starving African children for 1 month.* (Source: World Food Program $15 per child)
World will always have this 'haves' and 'havenots'
Your source is total bollocks, quite literally no way to assess what you are claiming. I bet this "charity" also pays its staff very - maybe they could ditch a brand manager or two eh?
@@ErrrorWayz What you are really saying is, you dont give a shit. Because regardless of a specific number of deaths per minutes, it's undisputed that each year a couple of million children die of hunger related circumstances. And you can check every reputable source under the sun for yourself, they all agree. But you dont give a shit so just say you dont give a shit. Dont piss down our backs and tell us it rains.
A Virgin Galactic Ticket has practically no nutritional value no matter how much it costs. And during the 90 minute Virgin Galactic flight, world governments spent well over $250,000,000 on defence rather than on working together to end hunger. You need to be honest with yourself on why you're picking on Virgin Galactic, and why you seek to belittle the obvious significance of their achievement.
I have a better idea. Sell your house and your parents’ house to feed African children. Don’t just talk the talk. Walk the walk. Do it. This 200000usd is their money. And considering the cost of program development, that is cheap. They’re not yours. The same way you cannot prevent a person from buying a Ferrari or Bentley. Richard Branson had contributed a lot to charity as well. The world does not revolve around your narrow point of view. I cannot afford this ticket right now, but i don’t blame people who do it. Stop being petty and ignorant. If we are talking about people with absurd incomes, footballers get 20mill dollar salary for just bouncing and kicking a 25cm ball around a 110 x 70m field, trying to get it into a 9m wide goalpost, and still don’t make it most of the time. Which one is more absurd? Go on, sell your house and live on the street so you can help worldwide starvation.
diversity coated commercial
diversity is great for our society, the us and uk needs more of it
Almost space, but of course the view from above is impressive.
Congratulations traveller
Uh, not space. 🤷🏾♂️oh well. Your money.
So glad these people have nothing better to do with their money. Self indulgence to the max. A bloody crime.
Ja vad ska man säga, spännande och säkert roligt👽👍
Absulutly amaizing
Bible has incredible scientific accuracy like round Earth and jet streams and the hydrologic cycle and much more.
FINALLY HAS PASSENGERS HOW LONG WILL IT CONTINUE FOR I WONDER 😊
Sure this spacecraft is not made of carbon fiber!?
I'm Waiting for the first explosion of Virgin Galactic in space.. Would be more dramatic and exciting
what a load of rubbish. why not educate people and describe what parabolic flight is and how it works?
erm cos is isnt a parabolic flight lol

Way to bring your brand of hate to the fore. 😢
They couldn't find neither your mum nor you.
Probably because they don't have dysphoria.

Question EVERYTHING
Nice to see that Virgin Galactic did not go bankrupt after all those space plane crashes
а у руских были белка и счтрелка
The beginning of different things
why ?
Imagine going on this flight and not getting a window seat!! haha
By the way, nice to see diversity in space.
And stock price goes down today
Shame on virgin galactic
Making history contributing to carbon emissions?
Not exactly space.
But as near as you are going to get on a pretend spacecraft.
They don't go out of Earth's atmosphere.
Titan Sub 2.0
this bad cross between rocket and aircraft never goes to space for this weightlessness but richard branson works for bbc for free
If one of those spaceships ever gets lost, we'll just follow the knocking sounds.
I thought they were going to the moon😊
I'm so happy for wealthy elites while most Americans can barely afford to simply exist now due to inflation

Great reporting BBC.
What about a story on Sunak's father-in-law getting a $billion contract from the company he just gave oil contracts to?
Or Braverman's friends getting PPE money, but not delivering any PPE?
Or 30p Lee being grossly racist?
Or.....
Or a "Corrupt Labour Politician SENTENCED To Jail"
Or "Labour BANS 'Straight White Men' From Party Conference Delegation"
Or "Labour councillors caught engaging in sectarian chanting"
Or...or.
The BBC doesn't report the News you silly billy.
Or the leader of BLM stealing 10m dollars... or Kier bribing the "independent" lockdown inquiry civil servant with a job?
It's the responsibility of government's, nutritional institutions and none governmental organisations to deal with world hunger.
It is not the responsibility of aerospace engineer's, physics engineer's, space organisations and industries to deal with world hunger.
It is BBC's decision to publish what news they want, and they have the obligation to cycle throw world news.
Why can't other broadcasting agencies publish the stories you've recomended?
Or why can't you go ahead and start your broadcasting?
@sergeeduardodegernier. A real staring character you are. Why don't you blast yourself up to Pluto & stay there?
