In this video I’m trying to trace the source of a horrible clunk!
By the time your watching this, I should have it sussed. But between edits, let’s see if you lovely people can diagnose it too based on what you’ve heard.
It’s just for fun, there’s no competition, I just want to hear your thoughts.

My new mini is doing something like that, I'll rock the engine and check the bushings, mounts and bolts. I hope the problem is the same as yours, I watched the conclusions video. Thanks

Have you checked to see in any stowaways in the boot? Knocking to try and get out....
Failing that engine steady would be the place to start.
Has it always done this? Sometimes fitting upgraded inlets the stat at the bottom of the carb knocks. If it's a new noise warn bushes or similat
William Murfitt cheers pal. Yep worn bushes and a nut missing. It did get progressively worse, probably due to increased movement over time
Engine steady or the gear linkage bush in the gear box. Broken bolt in engine on top steady bar.
mark piper thanks! It was the top bushes and there was a nut missing in the lower steady 🤷🏼♂️
Any steering / torque steer strangeness? I am wondering if a CV joint is getting worn?
Jon Stout nothing wrong steering wise, purely acceleration and deceleration. But a good shoot
I reckon top engine steady, either Bush has worn or the bolt has snapped in the side of the block

Top engine steady on the bulkhead spot welds? Open the bonnet and move the steering lock to lock to see how much the engine moves, should only be a couple of mm
Classic Mini shorts mounts checked out ok thankfully, I know they’re prone to cracking there but yep, bushes were shot and a lower steady nut was missing

Had the same noise. It was an WD40 bottle rolling in my boot...

I think you have play in the flux capacitor mounting plate

Little shit. Engine steady was my problem. Cracked and looked in-tact but had a hairline crack so engine could hit the firewall. Another time it was the exhaust engine mount on the engine loose which gave enough play for a thump.
Fix'n Things cheers pal. Yep the bushes were shot and there was a loose bolt on the bottom engine steady. My manifold is clamped but I also thought it could’ve been that
Subframe to toeboard mount, I don’t rate the poly version. possibly engine steady
Tony Watkinson subby mounts seem fine for now, that was my second thing to look at though. But right about the engine steadies

Judging from the video when you were starting it for the 1st time in ages,the engine was rocking far too much,either the top engine steady is shot or you need extra steadies on it!!! On my Mini,i have put an "Ultimate Engine Steady on it"(home made, copied it from a friends!!!)and 2 steadies off the gearbox,my engine does not move at all!!!!!!!

I assume you mean the first start up video I did a while back, in which case, both had been removed by the previous owner and since then I replaced the bushes and reinstalled, but, it seems one has worn and a bolt had worked loose on my lower steady. All shown in the video after this. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
