Good luck! Do be careful of the jumping exercises. For safety, it's much better to focus on a soft landing than it is to jump high. Your heels should land on the floor every single time. A slower steadier pace with a good bend in the knees when you land is much better than the demonstration here.

Good for you! Also, invest in some minimalist, ergonomic shoes. Pointy toes reduce your balance. I like Lems and Merrell Vaper Glove

A good foundation for foot health is robbed at birth by modern shoes. Parents cram their kids feet into shoe shaped shoes and then that human spends a lifetime wearing foot weaking shoe shaped shoes.
Then, in old age they look down at their weak feet and toes and wonder what happened.
I am glad you are paying attention to your feet now. But we need to have this awareness much much sooner in life.

I went full wide-toe box minimalist barefoot zero-drop shoes over 3 months ago when I got back into training. I have 2 pairs, one for paved paths and one for hiking trails. I regularly train, hike, ruck, jog, and run in these shoes. 3 months later, and my feet and my ankles have gotten much, much stronger and much more resilient. Am never going back to padded shoes ever again.
    Keep on rockin'! 🤘

I did the same 1 year ago to improve my knee pain, knee's are taking some time but I just love feeling the ground. Zero shoes are the way forward.

    • @harryv6752
      @harryv6752 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@FacesandSpacesStowmarket That is totally rad! And you are most certainly right. There definitely is nothing like the feel of the ground. The only time I'm wearing my barefoot shoes is when I'm out the door and sometimes when I'm training at home. Other than that, I'm usually barefoot at home and in yard. Just a few weeks back, I started jogging around my neighborhood (just over a 0.5mi loop) completely barefoot just to build up my feet callouses. Trying to bring back the feel of way back when I was a kid and going most everywhere barefoot after school and on the weekends. 🤘😄

This is the only way. Mistreating the feet starts at a young age when parents cram their kids into their first pair of shoe shaped shoes. And then they wear those until death. It is sad.
I have fully worked over to barefoot running and running in barefoot sandals. For work I wear minimalist dress shoes with toe socks. I am running a lot and I hope I am right about the above. I am running on concrete in complete comfort.

This was a phenomenal comprehensive review of why it's important, what exercises, frequency and duration and the escalation to more difficult weight-bearing exercises.
I have ruptured my plantar fascia three times now. The last time I was put in a soft boot for 8-10 weeks. My podiatrist never suggested physical therapy to recover. As a result, I continued to have pain and discomfort to the degree that I couldn't walk. Normally they put me back into a boot for another 6 to 8 weeks. I came out of that. The same issues.
What did the boot do, it stripped my leg from the glute down to the foot of any strength and affected mobility. Mobility. The most obvious observation is that when standing on my right foot I cannot get onto my toes. No matter how hard I try, I cannot lift my heel, not even to slip a piece of paper underneath of it. That's weakness and it's weakness that stresses the ligaments and joints in the foot.
Your video covers so much of what I wish I had before I put on a boot and after I took off the boot. I'm a year and a half into this miserable experience. I have spent thousands of dollars on orthotics and images. I have now seen four doctors, two podiatrists and two orthopedic specialists and I'm on my third round of physical therapy.
Just because they're doctors doesn't mean that they have the answers or that they're going to give you good treatment that will solve your problem. I can honestly say my first podiatrist really did a poor job of evaluating and coming up with a good treatment plan from a to z. I got steroid injections. I even had my blood extracted spun and re-injected into my foot. Again, thousands of dollars spent many hours of work lost and it's taken me completely out of my activities, like tennis, boxing, swimming, running, hiking. I feel cheated and demoralized.
I really appreciate the video you put together here. I'm definitely subscribing. Thank you so much

I've been doing calf raises but they haven't seemed to help. I'm getting frustrated. Hopefully this video helps.

I would suggest and consider barefoot shoes. Do the research on it and give it a try. At this point - it sounds like it is the only other thing to try. You have thrown a bunch of money at it and consulted with many professionals and you are still suffering.
Maybe it is time to consider seeing if your body can figure this out on it's own.

I loved all of the information in this video! I’m currently in PT for plantar fasciitis and once that is healed, I will most definitely be incorporating foot strengthening into my weekly workouts. I’ve been dealing with it for 9 YEARS, and my focus really changed from anti-inflammatory to degenerative when I stumbled onto newer research. Building adequate foot strength is so important to avoid recurring PF and I wish my podiatrist would have told me to KEEP strengthening my foot, instead of suggesting corticosteroid injections, custom orthotics, etc.
    Thanks for your video!! 😊

I ended up having a PRP injection done in March because I had a low-grade tear of the PF at my heel, an MRI showed. It’s been a long recovery, but I was told it would be. The initial pain has definitely started to diminish, but the immobilization I had to do for two weeks caused me some issues with my Achilles tendon and my posterior tibial tendon. Back to PT now and having success.

If you strengthen your foot, you wouldn't need the podiatrist anymore. Then what would they do? A healed customer is no longer a customer. That is, unfortunately, how our health care system works.

I am currently trying to rehabilitate my hip, and realised, that I cannot do it without also looking at the knee and the foot. The foot on the side of the problem hip is pointing outwards, and most pressure lands on the outside foot rather than the middle and the big toe. I have issues with the joint under the ball of my big toe from jumping on concrete without shoes--excruciating to walk for a while unless wearing thick slippers/shoes, but even after healing it gave chronic issues. I learned that limiting extension helped initially. For prevention I learned to walk while adjusting tension in the arch of my foot. It also prevents me from placing too much weight on my heels and getting my heels sore too quickly. Hadn't gotten technical about it, but the foot acts up on long walks and hikes. So in preparing for hiking season, I'm researching foot exercises. This video is a gold mine compared to the articles I found, not just in learning new exercises but in understanding why/how my accidentally discovered exercises were helping.

This was so well done and so informative. Thank you! Dancer here and my big toe doesn’t bend/respond to movement. I’ve seen people use therabands for the entire foot but not just the big toe (I don’t know why I didn’t think of that🥴) thank you! I’m going to have to watch again and take notes lol. I wasn’t expecting so much info🎉

I haven seen yet, but am just about to watch the video after extensive search for it. The old one from 2020 got deleted and I just noticed something was missing form the running playlist. Luckily had a printscreen somewhere to confirm that I found the channel.
