As a mailman, I had crippling, painful, plantar fasciitis in both feet for 13 years. I tried everything. Custom orthotics, pain meds, steroid injections, ice, stretching...nothing worked. After one ultrasound treatment, my feet were 50% better. By the 3rd treatment, my pain was completely gone. It's been two years now, and I'm still pain-free. I wish that I had known about this years ago. Better late than never, though.
Thanks for the video. The title is "Ultrasound: Effective for Tendonitis, Bursitis, Muscle Tears?" but I didn't hear you guys say if it's effective or not. Or if it is, just how effective it is, in my case, for shoulder bursitis that radiates to the arm. I read that its effectiveness is debatable. Your feedback is appreciated!
Great video! The first I have seen on the topic. As a PT student these types of videos are very beneficial, have you ever considered making videos specifically for students or prospective therapist? Maybe a day on the job type thing, lots of potential topics there and hasn't really been done yet!

I love ultrasound for my tendonitis. I know it's working because it's powerful, it actually made my ankle hurt a little once (PT stopped immediately to be safe once I told him I was hurting). I have relief for days from it, I'm hopeful it will help me fully heal. That plus the foot mobilization. Then on the other hand there was my podiatrist who only wanted to give me a cortisone shot and didn't even want to refer me for PT. Glad I did my research and went anyway. But knowing how powerful it is, id never feel comfortable doing ultrasound on my own at home.
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else needs to find out about best tennis elbow therapy try Freds Elbow Helper (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my partner got amazing results with it.

I have a severe trigger thumb on my left hand. It was very swollen and and the top knuckle would lock and snap back. I was unable to zipper my jacket, put on a belt or open a jar. I have had twelve treatments that I just finished, Twice a week. The swelling has gone down about 80 % and the pain as well. Unfortunately it still snaps but I can do almost all I mentioned above. I do wear rock tape. Next week I get a follow up. Cortisone may be next but this unit does work

Personally as a physio and having lots of athletic injuries, YES it does work. Only problem is the therapist actually applying the treatment. There are many factors why it doesnt work including what they said in the video wherein in the head of the therapist starts to wander.

Thanks for this informative video. I have used ultrasound on the tissue surrounding my fractured radial head for 10+ years. It works great. After 4 treatments it starts to calm the inflamed tissue.
I have a small handheld and I use it for muscles because I have m. s. It works great. For the past two years I have had lymphedema and I am going to try it on my lower legs.
Hi, what device do you recommend? I wish to buy one of these ultrasound devices for my wife's frozen shoulder. Of course, I will collect all the information and good advise from gentlemen like Bob and Brad before we continue with the therapy.
Why wasn’t he moving it while he was using it ? I heard yall talking bout it in your other video that you wasn’t suppose to hold it still on someone while in use and that you need to keep it moving inCircle position?why
My physical therapist used it in my lower back for the ligaments that had been injured. It brought much blood flow back to the ligaments that do not recover well because ligaments do not get full blood flow back usually after an injury.
You absolutely want to use ultrasound on a healing MCL or LCL or, for example, on a healing patellar tendon if its used as part of an ACL reconstruction. I know, I had one done, and spent about 18 monthis in physical therapy until I was 100%. Without exception, in this physical therapy group that also served the sf 49ers, ultrasound was used for all areas of the knee that scar after injury or surgery particularly to 1. promote circulation and 2. assist with scar tissue breakdown and collagen reformation in the healing area. I was even taught how to perform the ultrasound myself. It's very simple. It's very effective. And in my opinion, the physical therapist here who recommends not using ultrasound (just because it is around a bone) is mistaken, or being too cautious, or doing it incorrectly. Sorry.
Completely agree. If these 2 guys did a bit more research they would have found out that the ultrasound technology is used not only for muscle and ligament tissue healing, but especially for fractured bone healing. I fractured recently my tibia and most likely snapped few knee ligaments. I use my US Ultrasound Pro Second Edition daily and it helps me a lot during my recovery. Just be careful not to overdo it. 5-10 minutes is more then enough for a small area. If you are a beginner and you don’t have an experience with ultrasound tools, better start with 5 minutes because 10 minutes might be too much for you. Also, you MUST educate how to use the ultrasound tool so you won’t injure yourself. Blessings.
Bob & Brad, I'm in physical therapy for severe L. shoulder pain. with a history of two arthroscopic surgeries requiring microfracture and glenohumeral repair. I have a history of breast cancer that required radiation on my left shoulder and breast followed with chemo & radiation, severe systemic osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. I have had Ultrasound treatment in the past and believe it really helped with my oain. My therapsit here in Goodyear, AZ told me that there's no scientic evidence that Ultrasound helps with pain. I disagree with her. I like to know your thoughts, and if you know of a good Physical therapist in our area. Thank you!
do you know what's the frequency they're using? it seems like we can use an air humidifier, it comes with a pwm controller for cheap plus all the hardware you need to do that, i just need the frequency you're using and the power scale right, the ultrassonic oscillator in my humidifier is isolated and operated by 24v, plus i have a set of battery operated electrostimulators, that seems perfect to use together. I have a diy ultrassound doppler too to see the progress.I have a problem in the ligaments of my hands.Great, i just listened it's 1mhz, exactly the same, i put it in the t spectrometer and 1.02mhz, perfect.
I wish you guys were in Australia. I've been going to physios and none of them have been as knowledgable as you guy. 5 years and still no solution to tendonitis
The PT I saw recently refused to use ultrasound therapy on my Achilles tendonitis. He said current research evidence is inconclusive on its effectiveness. I'm Aussie by the way.
The studies he is referring to are probably not current. I just went through school and many of the old studies used incorrect parameters that actually caused cell necrosis rather than healing.
You say don't use on/near a bone but my Podiatrist used it on arthritis at the base of my big toe and after several treatments I haven't had pain in that toe in 20 years. Now I have it in the other foot :(
I’m confused…because numerous studies have shown that the efficacy of ultrasound treatment is very questionable at best. And further resolves that the vast majority of “healing” is attributed to nothing more than placebo effect.
I have a home unit and instructions say not to use it on areas with bony protrusion, because if there is not proper blood supply, the ultrasound treatment can cause the tissue to become necrotic. I was considering using it on my own knee, but after reading that, I decided not to.
Yes Emilia it does work on Scar tissue! Scar tissue is made up of tough protein fibers which replaces your injured tissue and this may give you pain or uncomfortable experience at times! Ultrasound therapy helps by breaking down this tight protein and give the body tissue more elasticity and better range of motion.
What if your trochanteric bursa is very tender, swollen and inflamed? Is ultrasound treatment still appropriate/safe? I’ve always understood you don’t apply heat to inflamed, swollen tissue.
1/For iliopsoas tendonitis how many sessions of therapeutic ultrasound needed in average 2/ for iliopsoas tendonitis can we use therapeutic ultrasound daily or alternate daily usage? Thanks
You say "no benefit after 14 treatments." That does not make any sense. If someone is getting relief from pain by using ult sound, then it seems obvious that it is still helping. As long as someone is using it properly, it should never be causing any damage. You can buy a machine from India on ebay that puts out 3W cm2 @ 1 mhz or 3 mhz from $160 to $200
@BobandBrad is it ever ok to keep soundhead stationary if using lower wattage setting say 0.4watts/cm2 duty cycle 50% does that 50 percent duty cycle coupled with lower wattage eliminate risk of standing wave formation
what about if its being done to a patient that had head trauma and cant talk but he/she can make noises when in pain? specific situation im asking about here. pt. has lost a lot of muscle mass and very skinny. one side is very stiff and patient cant extend one arm and leg. the intention is to try to use ultrasound to help release the muscles a bit but the worry is that hes too skinny and it might be too much but we wouldnt know as quickly because patient cant talk. whats your opinion on this?
just checked out your video.. Wife has a frozen shoulder and up to this point her PT does not use this technology. oddly enough a different PT center does use it regularly as part of its protocol. so it would seem to me that deep penetrating thermal would be good for blood flow in the shoulder. the unit I am looking to get is Model No : LG-US1. thoughts??
what the model and type of machine use? I have been experiencing ball of foot pain, gone to3 types of podriatrist gotten shots but the pain is still there, the burning sensation. Will this type of treatment work to take that pain away?
Could you please explain further your comment that you shouldn't do ultrasound more than 14 times? I've been given ultrasound weekly for a year, which is why I am thinking about buying one. Why shouldn't you do it more than 14 times. 14 times ever or within a certain time frame?
I had the same question and concern. I just bought one, but now am considering returning it. I don't think they seem to bother answering questions from viewers though unfortunately.
I'm wondering the same thing! I've never heard that before and can't find anything online saying not to do it more than 14 times. 14 is such an odd number too...why not 13 or 15 times? Anyway, I own my own unit which I've used A LOT and I'm still alive!
I have been in agony for 12 weeks with knee paindue to a suspected meniscus tear.bought the Revjtive machine and used this once a day for 12 consecutive days and already I am noticing a big improvement.
I like these machines but you also need to address the issues of tissue vaporization, coagulation and a host of other concerns related to this type of therapy.
Some temporary tissue discomfort is normal during healing process. Its a sign of inflammation releasing and tissues reorganizing into proper position. If discomfort lasts more than 48 hours and does not subside ... May alert contraindications/damage and need to consult medical attention.
Hello Bob and Brad, you both do great videos I love it. I' am massage therapist for 30 year working only with people with suffering from chronic body aches,. please I would like to know the name of your ultrasound machine and model # thanks
Hi, thank you for the video. Today I had an ultrasound treatment for my frozen shoulder, now I feel little chest pain / pressure. Do you think ultrasound can cause chest pain ?
Thank you for the video. I am going to PT after breast reconstruction but unfortunately scar tissue is trapping fluid and my breast is hard. To save money I bought the machine from India. I hope it’s a good one. But I heard you saying no more than 14 times and I don’t think it’s going to work for me. In meantime I ll be going to PT for lymphatouch therapy. Thank you for your answer.
14 treatments? for life? The chiropractor I saw, wanted me to go every other day for 2 weeks. For that out of pocket cost, it would benefit me to just buy a machine instead.
I just bought a used Intellect Legend US from Chattanooga manufacturer’s. This video was really helpful as I think I was probably not doing it right going over bone areas with the Duty Cycle at continuous and the w/cm2 at 2.5 or 10 watts which feels like a minor sunburn inside the area treated. My question is can this thing be safely used on all areas of the body? Chest, shoulders, neck, entire back, arms, stomach, hips, pelvis, glutes, legs, etc? Also it sounds like based on this video if I’m going over bone areas that I should be using the settings at 2 w/cm2, 3.3mhz and duty cycle at 50% or less? Also how long would you do an area? Many thanks for this video!!!
Hello colleague, I also bought the Intelect Mobile 2 Ultrasound. Contraindications are pregnant women, heart stimulators and artificial (metal) prostheses. In small places use lower intensity.

Good for calcific tendonitis to break deposits. That much is know.
I had Achilles tendon surgery, can you apply ultra sound around the tendon area?
what the model and type of machine use? I have been experiencing ball of foot pain, gone to3 types of podriatrist gotten shots but the pain is still there, the burning sensation. Will this type of treatment work to take that pain away?
Sounds like Morton's neuroma
@@OMG_BeCkY What kind did you get? I want to get one, that will help.
Huh? Care to expand? Tried googling but don't really see anything.
I have been using ultrasound therapy for 8 days now for a torn meniscus and I am starting to feel a definite improvement
this device actually damaged my muscle further, stay away
We can use for back pain?
Should pain increase or decrease after an ultrasound session while the muscles heal?
Some temporary tissue discomfort is normal during healing process. Its a sign of inflammation releasing and tissues reorganizing into proper position. If discomfort lasts more than 48 hours and does not subside ... May alert contraindications/damage and need to consult medical attention.
Hey can anyone give me information on ultrasound On flexor tendon repair removing scar tissue using 8 hertz on ultra sound and now having pain?
Hello Bob and Brad, you both do great videos I love it. I' am massage therapist for 30 year working only with people with suffering from chronic body aches,. please I would like to know the name of your ultrasound machine and model # thanks
Can a scoliosis patient use that??
any advice about a home ultrasound. Is it your massage gun?
Would you use it to help with lymphedema?
Serrapetase
Hello, can a person who survives with thyroid cancer, use it on their knees and heals.
Is it safe to use it on the neck ?
Is this used for shoulder impingement as well?
I need to purchase a machine for my scar tissue. Which brand is the most effective in breaking up scar tissue?
Kelly Kim Same problem.
14 treatments? for life? The chiropractor I saw, wanted me to go every other day for 2 weeks. For that out of pocket cost, it would benefit me to just buy a machine instead.
I use Pensaid for pes anserine bursitis. Would you recommend ultrasound with that? Is Ketoprofen something to get from a physician?
I just bought a used Intellect Legend US from
Chattanooga manufacturer’s.
Hello colleague,
I also bought the Intelect Mobile 2 Ultrasound.
Contraindications are pregnant women, heart stimulators and artificial (metal) prostheses.
In small places use lower intensity.

thanxs for your amazing videos :) love you
Does this treatment eliminate calcium deposits in shoulder?
Can it use in lypoma treatment?
Hi Bob and Brad. Could you let me know if this would help with piriformis syndrome
Hello Bob and Brad, so this equipment will loosen the muscle making the muscle move or stretch better?
I’d also like to hear what might be said when searching for new Physical Therapists, things to consider whether famous or not.
Okay
