      You will want to put some type of thermometer in the box itself to make sure of what temperature you are maintaining. Adjust temp setting accordingly.

    It looks like the bigger one has the thingys to let the heat out up top instead of on the bottom of the unit. That seems like a really good idea. Less chance of them getting blocked.

    Thanks for your review. I checked the link to see what others sizes or features there are now since I am interested in the C20 that will fit under the cot in back of my small ProMaster City van. They have new for 2019 a C22 (22 Liters or 23 quarts) that weighs a few pounds more, has a drain plug in bottom like your C40, an inside light & an ice tray compartment. No mention of Bluetooth connectivity (would be nice to monitor the inside temperature. So far it is tracking 4 stars.

      Yes I think what is available overseas is vastly different than what we have available. Just put them back in the trailer as I depart for Tahoe in a few days.

    The AlpiCool products are from China and come with 1 year warranty on compressor and 3 years on parts. Sounds like that they support them remotely. Anybody had to use the warranty or get support or service?
    I find these units actually love to run with Ice and freeze the ice. The way I use my C15 is to fill the bottom with ice and then run it from 7a to 7pm (on solar) and it would keep the inside under 40F overnight while off, cooler outside and parked.
    That 35AH that ran your c15 overnight was a Led Acid?

      Actually in my Subaru outback, I only had the C-15 at that time. I think using your cigarette plug would be fine, just test it first to make sure it doesn't drain your battery down too far. Better to find out before in the middle of nowhere. If so, then adjust the voltage cutoff on the fridge to the highest voltage setting. Unless somewhere really hot, should keep things cold enough if turned off during the night.

      I have the alpicool c-15. It uses 235 watt hours per 24hour day (measured) as a fridge and just short of double that as freezer. This is just putting already chilled/frozen food in for storage. Only occasionally making ice or chilling warm food/beverages. This is in a short bus with inside temp of mid 70's to low 80's daily and low 60's at night.

      When the unit is on and running, press and hold the set button for 3 seconds. A display of H3 should come up. It may be H1 H2 or H3. H1 is lowest voltage protection setting, H3 is highest. I think you use the up down buttons to cycle through them. I hope this helps. How much clearance does the 20L one need around the sides? I have 3 inches on the right side of the cooler (where one of the vents is)... maybe 1 inch on the left side where there are no vents. In the front it is open to the room. In the back I have 6 inches to the wall but it is on a shelf so it is open above and below on that side.
    Also, does this thing have a fuse on it? If so, where is it located. If not, what fuse would you recommend... 10amp?

    • @nomadplan3679
      @nomadplan3679  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your clearances sound similar to what I had around it. I have no specific recollection about minimum clearances for it. As far as a fuse goes, I will look tomorrow at the fridge and my manual if I can find it. I don't recall seeing a fuse on the 12vdc cord but I seem to remember alpicool States it draws 3 amps. Should be specs on either the fridge or manual if you still have one.

    • @nomadplan3679
      @nomadplan3679  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could not find my manual, but on inspection of the 12vdc plug, it appeared it could be taken apart. If there is a fuse, then most likely it is in the 12vdc plug like most other 12 volt appliances.

    • @101perspective
      @101perspective 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nomadplan3679 Thanks for checking. I took the 12vdc plug apart and there was no fuse.
      I'm going to have to connect it to a 12v car adapter plug socket anyway so I'll just ordered one that has an inline fuse.
      I looked around and officially I think they claim it uses 45watts. However, I seen a video where someone was checking usage and they showed it going up to 60 or 65 watts. Maybe that was surge though on startup. Anyway, sounds like maybe a 7 amp fuse? That would be 84 watts. I just checked and the AC adapter says it outputs at 14.5v up to 6 amps... which would be 87watts. So, I think that means the fridge can handle at least that much without dmg... hopefully...lol.

    i wonder if a 100AH deep cycle battery would run the bigger fridge for 3 days straight if i also have a 100 watt solar panel charging the battery in the day

    • @nomadplan3679
      @nomadplan3679  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ultimately it would depend on what temperature you have it set on. With a hundred amp hour battery and a hundred watt panel recharging a battery I don't see why not.

    • @101perspective
      @101perspective 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I read a review where a guy said the largest one (cx50) peaked at 60watts. Assuming you have a 12v battery, your 100AH battery has 1200 watts. However, you don't want to go below 50% on it. So, 600 watts max. That would be 10 hours of it running nonstop... if there was no sun out. However, for it to run nonstop you would have to leave the lid open...lol. I've heard others say that once it is cooled down theirs only ran for maybe 30 seconds or so every 5 minutes. Though I think they had a medium size one and not the largest. Plus, that figure is situational based on how hot it is outside. Even if we assume 1 minute running every 3 minutes you are already up to 30 hours on battery alone. With their 30 sec every 5 minutes it would be about 100 hours on battery alone.
      Bottom line, I think you will be fine unless you run a ton of other stuff off your battery.

    • @xraykadiddlehopper8067

      That depends completely on the battery chemistry. Lead acid die quickly LiFePo last much much longer but at a higher cost.
      LE can only be used to 50% capacity if you don’t want to keep buying new ones. Any drainage more regularly will kill the battery within a year.

Or are they meant and built for less use and have shorter life use than common fridges?

      They come with their own ac/dc converter power chord for 110 to 12 volt

      I have a dometic I use as a freezer when not camping. 24/7 better to use them than not use them.

    They SHOULD BE WHITE ! I cover the cooler with a white towel to reflect the sun away. These are cheaper and quieter than the old linear Engle type.

      I'd prefer if they were black, so to make it harder to see inside my car! I cover it with my car bed when camping, or a black towel (being careful not to block the air inlets/outlets) when the bed isn't in the car. Mine is the Vevor version of the CX-50 with LG compressor option.

      Yeah, I've wanted a small fridge for my van for years now but couldn't justify the cost. I only live in my van for 1 or 2 weeks at a time on road trips. Hard to beat just $230 though. Bought mine a few days ago and should show up soon. Will be nice not having to worry about ice anymore.

      @@nomadplan3679 I actually bought a XtremepowerUS 21 Quart. It is the EXACT same thing as the Alpicool cx20 (the small one with the taller lid)... only with a different brand name on the cooler. I don't know if it is the same company or not like the whole Waeco/dometic is/was.

    • @amojak
      @amojak 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@teresanoel4035 i don't but then the word generator to me brings up a standard generator which has an unregulated 12V output. if it does not work either the source has insufficient surge output rating for the fridge or is not regulated.

    • @EfficientRVer
      @EfficientRVer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the output voltage of your battery bank (aka solar generator, not actually a generator) and then check which of the 3 settings for low voltage cutoff your fridge is set to. Change it to Low if you want to run it as long as possible, set it to whatever voltage the 4Patriots recommendation is if you want the battery to not die young.

      I have a C40 bought last year for Christmas. I've been using in the garage plugged in since we haven't been traveling due to Covid. This summer the temps started to fluctuate from the setting. Now it will only cool to 10 deg below ambient even though the compressor runs constant. Waiting on warrantee return. Perhaps if only used once in a while it would be OK or I just got a bad one.

    How many watt?

    • @EfficientRVer
      @EfficientRVer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Max mode on my CX50/LG clone generally runs at around 30-40 watts, same as Eco mode, but when working hard will sound like it's changing gears and go up to 60-65 watts. Under 1 watt for the electronics when the compressor is cycled off. If you want to stay in Eco mode and not have the temp rise, don't throw a bunch of warm stuff in for it to cool off. Whenever possible, put in stuff that's already refrigerated or frozen if you want to keep energy usage as low as possible.

      Would eagerly buy US made products but unless you have a lot of $$$ prices are unaffordable and out of reach for the majority of working folks.
      Inflation and greed has us all buying what we can afford.
      We created this problem.
