Is the Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE a better muscle car than a 2021 Mach 1?

- The Camaro SS is an American icon and Chevrolet created a special option for road course racers, Under the hood is a 6.2L V8 that pumps out 455HP & is mated to a 6-speed manual. The 1LE option is all about tuning the SS for the twisty bits. Part of the package is a front splitter, forged wheels, large brakes, and so much more. On the outside the 1LE optioned Camaro SS is very identifiable from it's satin black hood and trunk lid spoiler, and unique wheels. On the inside you will find Recaro seats, Alcantara wrapped steering wheel, shift knob, and shift boot. Is the Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE a better muscle car than a 2021 Mach 1?

i couldnt agree more i love corvettes but the 2 draw backs on the C8 is no clutch and blind spots every where the Cj is more fun and 7 speed if you want it to be not auto witch twin clutch paddle shifting is boring sorry but going through those gears and going faster that is way more fun i have a 79 vette 4 speed manual i love it to no end but i so want the ss 1le to
@@shanemallams6702 I have an SS 1LE with 6MT. And to be honest I don't like the manual transmission. This car is my first manual. I have owned it for 2 years and driven it on track and daily for 20k miles. The longer I own the car the more I miss my old BMWs dct transmission. Drive a dct for a while and you will see you can do many things in an automatic that are way more fun.
@@memememine1 to each there own what makes im most happy with manual now I have heard the new C8 has extremely fast shifts for its twin clutch transmission and it's super fast same as the new gt 500 similar trans mission would be fun to drive for a day
@@shanemallams6702 It might be one just likes what one is used to. Some of my friends are manual diehards. They see the fun in dct but just like manual more. Definitely give it a try if you have the chance.

If you have your mirrors set correctly, and actually actively drive the car, meaning turn your dang phone off, blind spots are not a problem.
I have NO blind spots in my '17 because my mirrors are adjusted correctly

I driven on it’s pretty ease to drive. If you don’t have blind spot monitoring just buy some blind spot mirrors that you place on top of your mirror. I will say the front pillars are the real issue because of how wide they are, but that just means you have to be more wary of incoming traffic
Few things that were left out. The wheels are not 19 inch, they are 20 in forged 10 inch front wheels with 285/30/R20 front tires and 11 inch rear wheels with 305/30/R20 rear tires. The rear diff is an Ediff that changes the engagement of the lockup depending on what mode/tc you are in. The car also comes with PTM (performance traction management) for the suspension, ediff, tc, and launch control.
I'm originally a hardcore JDM kind of guy (I still own a single turbo 1993 RX-7 with full bolt-ons with an Apex'i Power FC tuned for C16) I test drove so many cars for 3 weeks before making up my mind. I wanted a Scat Pack Challenger, but I wasn't happy with the way they handled... It was a BOAT. The SS 1LE wasn't even on my radar. I was driving away from a CarMax dealer in San Diego after looking at some European models, when I spotted a Chevy dealer right next to it. Needless to say, I ended up with it.

It’s a dream car for my kids love bumble bee so I’d have to do a yellow bumble bee wrap. I’m a manual transmission guy myself so I get it..! But I’m a GT500 fan but still a fan because it’s American muscle.
Satin black is the way to go Id Satan black wrap it if is easier you to protect it while you road course it! My only zonk is it’s a Camero but I still love it!
Please go to SEMAs website and sign the petition to pass the RPM Act. The EPA is attacking the auto performance industry and trying to ban us from modifying our cars.

Got mine two weeks ago and daily drive it. It took some time to get used to the joke of a rear window but after a couple weeks it’s surprisingly comfortable. I love the seats.

I'm also from New Zealand and yeah, we barely see any 6th generation Camaros. A little sad, I mainly see 5th gens. Eventually, I'd like to have a 6th gen SS or ZL1 some day myself! Such a great car! This car on track would be as good as the mach 1 and possibly come somewhat closer to a GT350.
The 1Le wheels are also forged. Not cast.

Did your dealer tell you that you might not get it due to the factory shutdown? I was told it might be a 22 instead of a 21 if they can't resolve the chip issue. Good Luck

Thanks for the great review Joe! I have a SS1LE and this car is so sweet. It's great for learning driving on track, has great laptime per dollar performance. I would recommend it to anyone wants to learn to drive on track. It is truly track ready and can survive a full track day.

Camaros and mustangs aren’t very exclusive cars if you live in South Florida; specially Miami Beach, you see them everywhere. They are tourists favorites rides to rent. If you own a convertible camaro/mustang here in Miami, you gonna see yourself everywhere, especially at the traffic light. Now, if you live in Boston or in another country, it is a different story.

@@TheAow4321 you can get a SS 1LE for $40k most dealers after mark up want $60k+ for Mach 1. It's a $20k difference unless we talking 2SS package even then it's like $15k

I don't think you can get it with the 1LE package for anywhere near 42k, it's more like 50K minimum.
Those prices were precovid, any 2ss, 1ss, 1le are all over 50k theses day

I literally just put my deposit down for a 2022 2SS 1LE in manual and got the brushed aluminum pedals, red seat belts and the black and red fuel door cap. Sadly I won't get it until November and it will likely be going straight into storage for our Canadian winters.
The TREMEC TR6060 6spd manual transmission also has a cooler!

This car is so badass the color combinations on it, how powerful and beautiful it is.
The SS 1LE is a much better value than the Mustang Mach 1. Most Mach 1’s are $58 - 60K, but you can get SS 1LE’s for $45 -$47K. And it competes with GT350’s.
Seen a Mach 1 marked up to 68K.

I saw a Wild Cherry Tintcoat one up close, and it was pretty bad ass. I think the one in this video is the standard red color (Red Hot).
I own a Srt8 challenger with a manual, I love the way the Camaro drives , I like the ride and size of my car I’ve driven the mustang 10 speed automatic and wasn’t impressed I’d like a chance to drive the manual mustang though.

I used to think the same coming from older cars with much more 'roadfeel' but even my 5th gen 2015 V6 RS handles surprisingly well, and the 5th gens ARE truly boats compared to the 6th gen lol :P I really like it's hydraulic steering it's surprisingly sharp. Modern cars have come a hell of a long way even the "boats" are more like speedboats now haha

6-speed manual = Respect & Fun. Course most people will settle for the automatic comfort themselves with the fact that it’s 1/ 10th of a second faster on the track that they will never drive it on. They will never know the fun they are missing when these manuals with a big V-8’s are gone in a few years. But that’s OK people with a six speed manual will have the last laugh because they WILL go up in value! Facts.

This car is so cool that it really highlights how underwhelming the rest of GM's lineup is (besides the C8 Corvette), and will be. We don't appreciate the Camaro enough right now, I don't think people in general will understand how good it is until GM's lineup is entirely electric crossovers and so-called "Blazers".

I just made a comment about a 19 I saw today. I went from hating those to loving those.
This is a 2SS 1LE based on the options (video rear mirror, ambient lighting, heated/cooled seats). They seem to be going for closer to 50k
Yeah he never seemed to mention if it was a 1ss or 2ss but with leather seats and ventilated it’s a 2ss. They are not in the 42-46k range more like 49-54k range.

I snagged one of the last 2021 Black 2SS Manual 1LE's in CA, stupid new emissions law in CA made it even harder to get one, they went fast, especially when Ford got out of control with the over priced Mach1 + their dealer markup. End of Muscle car era 2.0 :-(

From Focus RS to 1LE. After 2 years of ownership, I'm kinda itching for Z1LE but house mods take precedence. I did however just get a new rear diffuser. Soo much better than stock.

I've been doing track days for many years and in my opinion, for what it's worth, the Camaro is just a better car in about every way, both of these cars are very good track cars, if you're going to be doing track days, either of these cars will run with about anything the world has to offer, but in the power train department the Camaro is much more durable, the superior, lighter, lower center of gravity, more low end torque producing, push rod engine, coupled with that bullet proof 6 speed kinda puts the Mustang in a box, the Mustang engines are quite prone to blowing up also, if Ford truly wants to challenge the Camaro they will have to get a modern push rod engine in that thing, in my opinion.
The new Camaro seems like it could be the experience of an older Vette.....tighter inside, manual transmission and that cool, muscular look.
My 2022 2ss 1LE (6k mi) will be shipped to me in 2 weeks tops and I can't wait, but it's a 10spd automatic, which I couldn't find, so I went with the auto, due to being in high demand!
