Chef J is my new go to - it's so good. Their sausage is amazing and their ribs are also delightful. A friend loves Bates BBQ's ribs so they're on my list too. My husband likes Wolfpack too.
Chef J's in the West Bottoms is some of the best BBQ I've ever had. I just found out about it earlier this year and it's quickly become my fav place it eat in KC.
Lived in KC back in the early 80s. I recall Wyandotte bbq in KCK and Sammy’s on Troost Ave having really good barbecue. They were totally old school joints. Not sure if they are still around, but it would be great if they are.
You need to go to LCs bbq; brisket burnt ends are the best in KC. Turkey and wings also slap hard. And their KC pit beans are the best beans iv ever had in my life
i aggree with others lcs down off Eastwood and bbs lawnside are my two go to places. dont confuse lcs bbq with the lcs that are in the gas stations not the same there is only one lcs bbq
Born and raised here. If we arent counting Jack Stack, Joes, gates and Q39 (im assuming those are the most popular) then the next best is LCs followed by slaps.
I do call foul by including Char Bar and Meat Mitch because Mitch Benjamin runs both. Other than that, I'd add Brobecks in Overland Park/whatever KCK suburb it's in. They do great beef, they have ham salad which my Mom loves, and they're so chill they encourage you to bring your own BBQ sauce to their restaurant. Would anyone else in your list allow you to do that?
You went to these places and got sandwiches instead of bbq meats, I can’t say I agree with your approach. Also, all the locals here, that eat bbq consistently, don’t eat at q39.
I won’t say Q39 is my first choice because it isn’t, but I’ll have to disagree with your “all the locals here” statement since I am local and know many other locals that eat there. Regardless, what are your favorite spots?
Too many what I would call up scale places . There are better , smaller ones . Like Smoke House BBQ , LC’s , places not in or around Overland Park Kansas , but in Independence or even around Rainbow Ave. . I know your time is limited but this video is a bust for me .
I think your point speaks to the dilemma around BBQ in Kansas City. There are SOOOO many options to choose from--especially when you include the greater KC metro areas like Independence and Overland Park--that it's nearly impossible to try them all. I will say that Slap's is neither upscale nor near Overland Park. But I'm curious if you saw my other BBQ video with some of the bigger names around town like Arthur Bryant's and Gates? That might be more up your alley. Still, I appreciate the feedback!
@@destinationdebrief no I did not but as a 50 plus year resident, and a former worker at a BBQ place I am more than familiar with the big- more famous ones . That’s for your response to me. Best wishes for success..
Smokehouse BBQ off of Shawnee Mission Parkway has been my go to lately. It's right down the street and they have great food. I miss the New York Dawg Pound that used to be there but Smokehouse is a great replacement 😊 They have great sandwiches and they're huge!
If you know kansas City there is a lot of hole in the wall places that are very good. Believe it or not el pollo wood fired chicken is really good kck. Kansas Avenue❤ great taste

I have a video coming out soon with Chef J, but I haven’t had Bates or Wolfpack yet.

Wyandotte BBQ is, but I’m not sure about Sammy’s.
Slaps has been our go to for year, but discovered Wolfpack BBQ and their meat is amazing!!! They just need a sweet KC sauce.
I’ve heard about Wolfpack BBQ a few times. You think I should check it out?

I've had a few suggest LC's BBQ. I might need to do a user-suggested review battle of BBQ restaurants. Thanks!
you need to try Scotts Kitchen BBQs, Kansas city, Mo up by the KCI airport, awesome food, I worked there for 6 years , great people.
Thanks for the recommendation!
You missed Woodyard and LC's.
Are those your favorites?
@@destinationdebrief Woodyard is my favorite for ribs. LC's is not a personal favorite, but I know they are well regarded in the KC area.

Good to know.
Anyplace with Meat Mitch is win.
I definitely enjoyed it.

Nevermind. I didn't watch the whole thing. I guess you weren't counting Q39
I have another BBQ video that covers the big 4 too.
Since Mr. Richardson passed away, LC's has gone downhill. They run out of beef more often than they have it. Sadly.
Meat Mitch is very good bbq. Work at that Price Chopper, and have had Meat Mitch. Glad you liked it.
People always talk about Joe's, Jack stack, Bryant's, and Gates...but Slaps is the best
Slap’s is definitely making a name for themselves.
@@micahtrayford762 you must be an old person with no taste buds. They have no seasoning on their food.
If you didn't get the ribs from Slaps then you cheated yourself.
And I hate cheaters! lol

To be fair, I did say in the video that Mitch Benjamin was the Pit Master for both Char Bar and Meat Mitch.
you should try chef j and wolfpack bbq
I have Chef J coming up in a future video, but I’ll have to look into Wolfpack. Thanks for the recommendation!
Famous Dave's and Slap's 👍👍👍👍🌹🌹
I can't say I've ever enjoyed Famous Dave's, but I think we can agree on Slap's!
Famous daves??? Hell no lol
Nope. Famous Dave's is a nationwide chain. That's like saying Longhorn is the best steakhouse in the US.

Agreed. There are too many distractions in a BBQ sandwich to judge the product. I mean… an Egg?! Come on.
Keep it simple ribs, brisket, sausage.

Arthur Bryant's has gone downhill. Joe's has the best ribs in my opinion!
Joe’s does many things very well.
