    I just finished up my install using your tutorial, and it worked like a charm, even for a novice tinkerer like me. Thank you very much!
    That said, I have a couple of observations pertaining to the LED-install portion for anyone attempting to do this:
    When removing the old strips, I noticed that they each had a pink rubber strip on the bottom, which I didn't hear you mention, and which was noticeably absent from the replacements that I had ordered. That said, I was able to remove them all with the smallest bit of force, and the adhesive remained sticky enough to reattach to my new strips. I'm not sure what purpose they serve, and lining them up can be a huge pain--especially when also trying to line up the strips--but I erred on the side of caution and reinstalled them anyway.
    Regarding the black foam that comes on the stock strips, I was able to remove them pretty easy. At first, I attempted to slide a thin razor blade under it, but after playing around with it, I found it much easier to just gently pull them off by hand--no tools needed. After that, it took some effort, but I was able to stick them to my new boards. There were a couple of spots that were no longer sticky, but it looks like it compresses against the screen anyway, so I just pressed them down the best that I could. The only problem area on the foam strip that I had was that about an inch of it on one end kept springing back up. So, I threw a very small strip of double sided tape under it and cut off the 2-3mm at the end that still wouldn't stay down.
    No light bleed on my end!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that's awesome! Yes I did not talk about the pink silicon strip that is behind. Often those are used as a heat transfer however they don't make contact with anything from what I recall and thus it doesn't really make sense to me what it is there for. As for the black strip in front, that's lucky, typically they are so heats stressed in my experience that it just falls apart and you can't really reuse it.
      Glad you had a successful repair and were able to get it done without any light bleed.

    I have an XBR 65X950G with 4 blinking red lights. Wish I had found your videos first as I tried the BL-ERR pin removal and ground (no joy), power board changeout (no joy) and some other things. Problem is not solved. Could not locate the repair manual. Was thinking now maybe T-CON board until I saw your videos. I do wish you had a video showing how to change the LED strips on this model. I know that others have asked about it as well. This is a fairly new model (2019 on board) and I think I bought it in 2020. I used to praise Sony products as I had older Sony TVs and other products that lasted forever. A little over 2 years on a high end TV IS NOT RIGHT! Please, make a video with an XBR 65X950G!

    Could you use led tape to reattach the foam strips.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I didn't mention it but one of the issues is also that you stretch out the original and it sometimes falls apart depending on how much heatstress it went through. So it does loose some of it's thickness and shape. But I think one of the issues I realized is that the diffuser sheet actually melts a little on some sets and that also in part has something to do with it.

    • @dougparkerfishingadventers9768
      @dougparkerfishingadventers9768 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had several bottom lit Samsung that melts the diffuser as well. I repair hundreds of led failure an year. I do mod the LED driver circuits to lower the current.

    Hey Nick, question regarding this same TV. Btw I been watching your videos your the man beautiful way of explaining everything every time brotha.
    So same TV picture is clear and clean but I’m staring to see yellow bleeding through the bottom portion of my screen just like at the end of your video how you have led bleeding out but mine is yellowish bleeding what do you think that means? Is it maybe time to replace led strips ? btw have you found the black form strip yet ?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not yet found a good solution. Part of the reason is that I have actually only had a couple more of these TVs come into the shop since this video, 1 of which didn't have any light bleed at all and so there was nothing for us to try and the other was on the opposite end of the spectrum, it was one of the worst we had ever seen and everything we tried didn't really have much of an effect. I think what causes this more than anything is the fact that the LEDs are getting so hot that they melt the diffuser plastic and that's probably what causes it. Meaning there really is nothing you can do about it. You can preventatively lower the backlight setting but once it's there I don't think there is anything you can do to make it go away.

    Hi Nick! I changed the LED strips on my XBR65900C but it's still somewhat dim. Took it apart a second time to make sure the LEDs were lined up correctly it I believe they are. Have you run into any other issues that would keep it dimmer?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not. Perhaps something in the settings? How dim is it? To the point the set is not watchable? If so it's possible the alignment is not right.
      Are you using the LEDs we are selling or ones from another retailer?

    • @riche.s.8277
      @riche.s.8277 ปีที่แล้ว

      @NicksTVRepair the set is watchable. As an example, it went from around 50 nits full screen to about 100. I know this tv was about 200 nits full brightness before the LEDs started burning out. Unfortunately, I purchased these LEDs from an Ebay vendor before I found your video. Looking at the strips, they were same height and numbers, so I don't think they're my problem.

      Hello,
      What you are describing is still an LED failure, it just has a slightly different symptom than what we are experiencing in this video. There are a few different ways the LEDs will fail and depending on how they fail, they will display slightly different symptoms.
      Sometimes it triggers a 4-blink code and sometimes it triggers a 6-blink code but either way, it does require new LED strips to be installed to repair this unit.
      If you are interested in doing the repair yourself, we do have these for sale on our website. There is a link to the strips in the video description.

    My opinion is the leds are the wrong height and too close to each other as well

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you watch the video until the end, I go over some of the information as to why I believe there is light bleed still post repair.
      There are no manufacturing company that I am aware of that will sell LED strips that are 100% going to work with 0 light bleed. All of them have the light blocking strip missing.
      But the main reason why I think no matter what there will always be some light bleed is because humans are replacing these LED strips not machines. Humans make mistakes and are not as precise as a machine. These things have to be done 100% perfectly in order to have 0 light bleed.
      The #2 reason is that these TV sets even when assembled brand new by a machine still had a percentage of the TV set owners complain about light bleed.
      Now throw in that the replacement LEDs don't have the proper light blocking strip that should be there, and here we are.

    • @M.E63
      @M.E63 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicksTVRepair yh I did comment before I watched the end but I don’t think the issue is the black foam strip, it’s pretty obvious the leds used are completely the wrong height so that will cause issues in a slim tv like that, the leds used in the replacement strips are completely the wrong ones, wrong height and these are very close to each other basically touching each other, the original ones have a gap between each led but the main issue is the height of the leds, you may disagree but that’s what I think

    Hey Nick! I have a 65x90k with 4 blinks. It'll come on and dispkay the sony logo then the google logo but then shuts off and blinks 4 times. Ive tried grounding the BL_err pin but nothing changed. If I unhook both lvds cables then itll go into the color cycle screens and not turn off. If I leave the top lvds cable connected, itll do the color cycle again, but if i connect the lower and disconnect the upper lvds cable then it goes back to the 4 blinks. Any guesses as to the cause?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      4 blinks are #1 caused by defective LED strips. To fix this you need to replace your LED strips as done in this video.
      There is a very small amount of TV sets that sometimes can trigger a 4-blink code not because of defective LEDs but instead because of a defective driver board. I do not believe yours is one of those which means you need to replace the LED strips to fix your TV.
      I don't have these for sale, but the best company to buy replacement LED strips from which is the company we use as well is Shopjimmy which I will link below.
      www.shopjimmy.com/sony-1-013-011-11-led-backlight-strips-20-xr-65x90k/

      @@NicksTVRepairThanks. I figured it would be backlights but wasn't sure since grounding the BL_err pin didn't bypass the turn off. Wasn't sure if that would indicate a defect in the panel itself. I swapped the driver board with a working one in the past, just to test, but that didnt solve it, so pretty sure that's working

    • @NicksTVRepair

      If the picture is not appearing it's most likely because the ribbons are not properly inserted. This is the most common reason you don't get picture after replacing a mainboard or swaping out the T-con.

    I have replaced the led bars and ended up with an issue. When I turned on, the screen displayed the random red, green, blue pattern.
    I went to try reseating the ribbon bands between the main board and the t-con and that didn't work. I made the mistake of starting the tv while the ribbons were disconnected one by one and that's when the green and amber status led started blinking.
    Unfortunately Sony not longer provides software updates for this particular model.
    I tried a download from softpedia but I don't think it is the latest as it shows to be from November 19 2018.
    After a few tries loading that software, the tv started making sound but cannot display a picture. No backlight is present at all. I even ordered a new set of ribbon bands and they are in excellent condition but that still won't solve the problem. I've checked every single connection, including those linking the cof to the display and to the t-con.
    Does anyone know what could be wrong? Does anyone have a link to the latest software?
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The good news is that this is a clear-cut diagnostic. No need to get fancy here. You didn't connect the ribbons back in correctly. If you reseated them and still have the same issue then you didn't reseat them correctly. There is something you are doing that is not allowing the ribbons to properly connect.
      Either that or you may have damaged the ribbons and may need to replace them.
      And worst-case scenario, you broke one of the tiny small locking/guiding tabs on the end of the ribbon that allows the ribbon to go in exactly as it should and it's now stuck inside the ribbon connector in a way that now prevents you from properly connecting the ribbon. This happens often.

      Look up on google your model + LED strips, and find a vendor. They will have their own prices and shipping fee. eBay probably has lots of sellers for these.

      Hello Jesus,
      Yes that is in fact very common and is one of the failures we deal with the most. I have a video on how to fix it but long story short you have a mainboard failure.
      Check out our video here for more info.
      th-cam.com/video/gxJtLqeBcBA/w-d-xo.html
      We also fix these mainboards for that failure at a flat rate fee and a 1 Year warranty. For more information contact us directly. Our email is in every video description and or you can go directly to our nicks electronics repair website and fill out our contact form there as well with any questions.

    Hi Nick. I have an XR-55A80J OLED with a vertical white line on the screen since one month ago, despite this, there were no problems with the TV image. A week ago the TV stopped working and 4 red blinks appeared. Do you know how I could fix this? Is there something that needs to be replaced?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      That I am aware of there is no way to fix this issue when it occurs with an OLED TV. I would recommend looking into any possible warranty claims. Was there an extended warranty purchased with the TV? Do you have home onwers inssurance? Sometimes TVs are covered under home owners inssurance. Perhaps you purchased the set with a credit card that provides an extended warranty?

      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Victor,
      Well it shouldn't hurt to simply reseat the ribbons, but in my experience that is an issue with the screen itself. The only way to fix it would be to replace the screen.

    I saw a similar video to change the leds but now when turning on it starts flashing green - orange and after a while it sends audio but the leds never turn on

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes when that happens it's because either the ribbons connecting the mainboard to the T-con are not connected properly either on the mainboard side or the T-con side, the ribbons between the T-con and screen are not connected properly either on the T-con or screen side.
      You need to reconnect those and make sure they have good contact. Once you do that it won't fix it, now you have to pair the mainboard back to the screen. I have another video on how to do that for a different Sony TV, but the process is identical:

    The most fragile part of the TV, the COFs (chip on film), the ones from the display to the timing/scallar/driver board on each side(this size 2 of them). These COFs are really fragile, please use some BBQ sticks or some other stuff with a masking tape, or a capton tape from the other side. You'll make it flat and won't allow for them to bent down as shown at 6-7 minute in the video. That will make it safer. Thank me later.

      @@NicksTVRepair These are looking like a big long match as just a wooden stick and sharp at both ends to stick your meat and veggies on it and make a shashlik. I glue with a capton tape to the display/screen and COFs lying on it. Otherwise, these were falling and was quite risky for me.

    Cut this adhesive thingy off this old one and use double sided tape or something else on the new one. I bought a high temp double sided tape for many things in the TVs where it's too hot and works fine.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The adhesive on the LED strips? are you saying to peel it off and put it on the new strip? It's not really possible, it starts falling apart into pieces due to the heatsress. It almost gets brittle. Maybe yours had a lot less heatstress was in better condition?

      I am all in for criticizing large corporations that cut corners, but only if the facts are true.
      Sony sets that are bound for north american markets are made in Mexico, the ones for the asian markets are made in Japan, and Slovakia for the european markets.
      With that said some of the assembly is made in Brazil, Spain, Malaysia, Ecuador, and as you mentioned China.
      One of Sony's core values is to provide products and services that surpass expectations, this is a value that transcends borders regardless of which country it was made in. The Sony TV made in Mexico is going to be of similar quality as the one made in Japan or China as both are held to the same quality standards.

      So the more I look into this the more I am finding out it doesn't have to do with the replacement LEDs but the plastic diffuser gets burned up and melted. It seems these replacement LEDs work well with some sets and not as well with others, and the difference seems to be if the plastic diffuser is damaged from the original LEDs going out. Sometimes they don't damage the diffuser sometimes they do and melt it a bit which causes the light bleed.
