    Hi,
    I send in my DSP board from DK in september. Nick's kept me updated in the process. I had it send to family in US. Visited them in late October. Put back the DSP board yesterday night. The TV just turned back on like it had never been DEAD.
    THANK YOU Nick's for an outstanding service!!!!

They sent me email on the progress. Don't waste time looking for a repair shop or throw your tv away!!! I would recommend Nicks for all your TV repairs!!!!

    My Sony tv acted excately the same. Then opened it up and checked 12.67v on 3 wires going out from power board, then saw red light on optic plug and tried to switch tv on. And tv turned on! How lucky is that! I did nothing and i got it working again.
    Thank you for the video. It encouraged me to try to check it out myself before taking it to repairshop.

    Hi Nick... I appreciate the content! I'm just starting out with TV repair and love your videos. I had a question about this one in particular. My DPS board is testing good on the fuse, but continuity is beeping on all the capacitors, which indicates a short. However... this is the part that gets me... I am getting 24v to my mainboard still, but have no standby 3.5v. Is it safe to say the chip can be bad, but still deliver 24v to the mainboard? I have watched your mainboard video as well, and everything is testing good on that, with the exceptions of the 3.5v standby power. Thanks in advance!

      If those caps are shorted then the IC is shorted and needs to be replaced.

    Hi, Thanks for sharing all your wisdom. I have been checking the voltage on DPS Board and even the main board seems to get 24 volt input but I am not sure what you mentioned at 7:02 to 7:06 ( you said and also 3.4v). I don't seem to find any of the wires showing 3.4v. Can you shed some light on what that 3.4v for and also, any other way I can check whether that was the cause for the NO Power for the TV - XBR-55X930D). Thanks.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for very late reply.
      The 3.4 volts would be found on the right side of the 3 caps I believe. The caps we use to check for shorts.
      I believe left side is ground and right side is 3.4 volts.

    Hello! Thank you for the informational videos. My sons room has a xbr-43x800d…all of a sudden no power. I checked and appropriate voltages getting to main board. So I ordered a new main board. It arrived and I installed it. Now I have power but nothing else…ie, plug in and nothing comes on screen but green light blinks 14 times and then stops for a few seconds and then starts again (green light alternates with white light that typically comes on when tv is on). Any thoughts?

    Hi like your videos, your channel is very informative.
    I have the Sony 65X930D.
    The screen turn on black and white and the tv has to be reboot several times for the tv to work.
    I had this tv for over 5yrs now, I can buy a new tv but I like to solve problems like that.
    What’s your recommendation?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a strange symptom that I have not seen or heard of before and I don't know what could be causing that. I would highly recommend doing a factory reset as well as a sotware update first. If that does not resolve the issue, I would then tend to suspect either the T-con or the screen itself could be at fault there but that is just a guess.

    Love these videos! I’ve been trying to learn electronics repair for a bit and got my hands on a Sony xbr-55x850d with no power(due to a power surge). The external power supply was toast so I replaced that, but there are other issues. When unplugging the main board from the power board, the backlight comes on. Just took the board out and trying to figure out what’s next. Do you guys have experience with these boards, and if so, do you plan on releasing any videos on it? Thanks!

      Hello Taylor,
      We do commonly service those as well. We don't have any videos on that specific model right now, but we are planning on doing a video on it in the future. But it won't be right away. Thanks for the video! Can you please tell me what the part number is for the IC? I found TPS54334DDAR elsewhere but that chip appears out of stock for the next year or so. How would I find an alternate chip for the 65X930D TV? The three capacitors are also shorted on my TV.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      The three caps are shorted because they are in line with that chip right. So if you remove the chip the short should go away.
      Try different suppliers such as digikey, Mouser, Arrow and so on, they should have that IC. If they don't, you can call them and sometimes they can guide you to other replacements that would be compatible.

    I have a sony TV have same circuits boards as the TV you worked on. My tv not working and has red light blinking 4 times.
    If you can tell me which circuit I check and replace it, i did some research most of the articles says the problem could be from power board or backlight board??
    Thank you Nick,

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      4 blinks is typically the backlight or the LED driver board. I would recommend replacing the driver board first since it's way easier to do that than the LEDs.

  • @karthikamba
    @karthikamba ปีที่แล้ว

    I looked at another video of your's and you mentioned the white wire 3.4v is for standby power. Thanks. I looked at the main board fix by following your video ( Dead Sony TV No Power Sony XBR-55X930D XBR-65X930D Mainboard ) and the resistance test passed and capacitors looks good based on the test. I felt stuck at this point on how to proceed further. As you have mentioned EMMC chip could probably the issue but I don't have a way to confirm that. Please do share if you have any.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry no way to check the emmc that I am aware without desoldering it and checking it in a programmer.
      If you now have power after fixing the DPS board everything should work. If you still don't have full power, it could be that either a cable or ribbon was not properly inserted back in and you may have to reseat all cables, it could be 1 of the pins on the IC chip was not soldered down properly, the IC chip you have is partially defective, which unfortunately can happen, or it is also possible that your mainboard is also defective in addition to your DPS board which is rare but we have seen happen at least a dozen times in the hundreds of these we have had to service.
      I would start with double checking your work, double checking all ribbons and cables first and trying to boot up the set again. If still nothing, I would then replace the IC with another in case the first one is defective.
      If you still have issues after that, then it could be something to do with the mainboard.
      I am sorry but I don't think I can help much more without having the boards in hand.

      My advice is don't listen to what I say or anyone else.
      Your machine is unique to you and the way you use it. Practice using your machine on dead boards or donor boards, learn how your tools work, try out different nozels, get a feel for what your tools can and can't do. Every circuit board and IC chip is different, there is no universal heat profile that fits all.
      The only thing I can tell you is that more heat at a higher volume of air flow for a shorter period of time is better for components and the board than doing less heat at a lower volume of air for a longer period of time. At least that's what I have found in my personal experience using my tools.
      Again your tools could be different, so don't listen to what I have to say. Find out for your self by trying out different things.
      Also i aid it already but ill say it again always practice on bad donor boards. Everyone has this tendency to practice on the super-expensive boards that aren't replaceable.

      Hello,
      Well, you replaced everything in the TV so if the TV won't turn on after replacing all the boards either there is a piece of information that is missing here, or you replaced your defective board with another defective board.
      When you say it won't turn on, can you be more descriptive? Do you get power? Are you saying the screen won't turn on or the TV won't turn on? The TV can turn on without the screen turning on. The same sentence can mean different things to different people so please provide as much detail as possible so that I understand what you mean when you say it doesn't turn on.
      PS 9 times out of 10 the mainboard is the fault.

    I replaced the ic bought from your site. It fixed the short. Now when i plugged everything back in I'm getting the 24v on the white wire out of the dps board instead of the standby voltage. And nothing in the center wires where you looked to be testing the V out of the dps to mainbaord. It ended up shorting the ic again. Good thing i bought 2. What could be causing this? I placed the IC exactly as you had shown.

      The bottom pad may not have been soldered properly as in improper contact or maybe too much solder and could have been making incidental contact with another pad it shouldn't have.

      In my biased opinion I would say repair. That's because this is a very good 4k TV and once you get the mainboard fixed, there aren't any other parts that commonly fail with this set so you wouldn't be at risk of another problem arising anytime soon. Oh also replacing this 4k 75" Is going to be between 5-10 times more expensive depending on the model you go with.

      You just need a screwdriver to remove the screws. Be gentle with the LVDS ribbons (the large flat ribbons) they are fragile and can break if you don't disengage the locking mechanisms correctly. We have videos on removing a Sony mainboard if you need.

      The best thing to do is not a voltage check but the resistance check of the 3 caps to the right of the IC we replace. Take the board out of circuit or simply disconnect everything from it to make sure nothing in line affects the reading.
      In resistance mode test the resistance. If the 3 caps are shorted then the IC is bad and needs to be replaced and thus confirms the fault is the DPS board.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Manolis,
      If your TV is showing the sony logo then it is in fact turning on. Since your TV is turning on, your power supply is most likely not the fault. I do not know what a 3-red blink stands for as it is not available in the service manual I have access to but if a lightning strike occurred then yes 99% of the time a power surge affects televisions not through the power, but through the data cables and internet which all connect via the mainboard. If this were my TV, I would start by replacing the mainboard.

      Thank you for providing the symptoms. Yeah, I have no idea what IC401 is.
      I have never had to replace IC401 in the hundreds of these mainboards that i have fixed. Granted I don't have a 100% success rate but 90% of the time a dead no power issue is due to the eMMC chip. That's the chip that usually needs to be replaced when encountering the dead no-power failure. The only other part that could cause this is a defective processor, but that usually only happens due to a power surge or lightning strike taking it out. It's rare to see it go out and cause a dead no power on its own although it is technically possible.

    Hi I replaced same ic on my Tv but it only lasted 8 months before shorting out again. Do you know if Sony made a board revision to this issue? Maybe better off finding the entire board if it’s been redesigned to not short out? Thanks

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There could be a few reasons for that. #1 this is a known fault which Sony has provided an extended warranty for. The issue is common but within 8 months is very fast, a little to fast to make sense. #2 the chip you got could have had some defect. #3 the chip was partially damaged during the installation. It is easy to apply to much heat and partially damage the chip as it does need to be installed with hot air.
      There is a modification you can do after installing the chip. It involves adding I believe a 72k ohm resistor connecting pins 1 and 8. This should help reduce the power draw I think and thus extend the life of the replacement chip. I don't know the specifics exactly but thats more or less what I understand.
      Please look more into it before doing this, I could be wrong with this information.

      You may have an issue with your power brick not making proper contact. Is the plug perhaps not providing 24v correctly from the power brick if you play around with the cable? If you put it in a certain position vs another does it more consistently provide voltage?

      I am very sorry to hear the Geek Squad was your only source to service this TV set. Sony TVs are very much worth fixing. Without even seeing your TV I can with 99% certainty guarantee you the power supply is fully functional and the Geek Squad representative did not properly diagnose the device. Not because they are not a good tech but because that is the diagnostic process imposed by best buy. "replace it all just in case"

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the XBR-55X930D north american model equivalent, then you can disconnect the thin ribbon on the left side of the DPS board that connects the DPS and LED driver board to one another. Disconnecting it will send an auto on signal to the LEDs. If the LED's turn on, and there is good illumination through out and no fickering of the LEDs then you have confirmed your LEDs are good, your driver is good and the issue is somewhere else.
      If you don't have your LED's turn on, then either your LEDs need to be replaced or the LED driver may be defective.

    Hi. I have this model tv. There is no power. No tv light at all. No standby or blinking lights either. Tv will not turn on with remote or power button. No optical light either. I did step 1 test measuring power coming from ac adapter at 24 volts. Step 2 I measured led driver board but it sparked. I then measured power coming in at Dps board. It was 24v and power leaving Dps was 24v and power at main board 24v. I did not see any other voltages at Dps or main board.. I followed your other video and removed main board and heat sink. I then tested the resistance in all the capacitors you had mentioned. All the capacitors showed shorts. This makes me think this would be main board? I wonder what would cause main board to go bad while in standby mode overnight? I also tested the Dps board and the fuse was ok but the 3 resistors were shorted.. it would appear I need new/repaired Dps board and main board. One thing that was odd was that I had no voltage on the white wire just 24 volts tested on the Dps and main board. This happened overnight while tv was off and was plugged into surge protector outlet strip. All other devices plugged into surge protector outlet strip were fine. What are your thoughts about what is wrong?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The way this fault occurred and the way you are describing the fault occurring overnight is very common. Based on everything you mentioned especially regarding the slip-up on the voltage check which caused 2 pins to short and spark it may be best to send in both the mainboard and the DPS board for us to check as both are possibly affected at this point.
      It is also not unheard of to see both the mainboard and the DPS board fail at the same time although it is a lot less common.
      For more information on my services, please see the website listings which are linked in the video description.

      Hello,
      Yes if you have this TV, it can be tricky to identify the fault. We do on our website have both flat rate services for each individual board, but we also have a testing and diagnostic listing for $20. What I recommend is you send us an email directly, make sure to provide us with both the model number of your TV, as well as very clear and detailed symptoms you are experiencing. From there we will either tell you which board we believe you should be sending in, or if 2 parts can cause the same symptoms then we would recommend you send both in, purchase the diagnostic/testing bench fee of $20 per board, once we receive them we will, of course, test them, and identify the faulty board. The fully functional board will not be refurbished unless specifically requested, and the defective board will have its $20 diagnostics/testing fee credited towards the cost of the repair.
      Does that make sense? If not or if you have more questions then I would recommend you reach out to us directly. Our contact information is in the video description.

      If you have an XBR-75X900E and it seems to be dead, you most likely have a bad EMMC that needs to be replaced. I don't think it would be something I would recommend performing on your own.
      Here is a video you can watch where we change out the EMMC.
      th-cam.com/video/XadBVYLJOVM/w-d-xo.html
      It's very involved and unless you have the correct equipment and experience, I don't recommend doing it yourself.
      I know I sound biased because we offer a service on it, and that's what I am trying to push, but these are very hard-to-find boards it's not really the type of board you should be experimenting on and seeing if you can fix it. You should practice on a low-cost $15 circuit board first, once you get the hang of it and are able to successfully perform the repair on the cheap low-stakes board, then start working on the hard-to-find and replace boards.
      Again I know I sound biased, but if you want to send in the board for repair, here is a listing for it

      Hello,
      I don't know what could cause this specifically without diagnosing the set in person. This is not a common fault for the TV to stop providing picture but still has backlight and audio.
      This could be a panel fault, or T-con fault. It is unlikely but there is also a small chance your mainboard could be causing the fault.
      If I didn't have a way to diagnose the set further, and I were in your shoes, I would start by replacing the T-con, and then the mainboard since the T-con is cheaper and more readily available. Just make sure to locate modules with return policies in case you have to return the module.
      We can live test the mainboard for you if you would like, and may be able to also fix it, if it is indeed defective depending on the exact cause of the fault.

      If you can't get the mainboard to pair, either your ribbons are damaged, not seated properly, or the mainboard has an issue.

    • @NicksTVRepair

      Jerry,
      what is the model number of your TV and when you say a green screen, do you literraly mean that the entire screen only displays the color green? Does audio still work? Were there any intermittent issues prior or did this all just happen just one day after turning on the TV?
      I have never encountered an issue where only the color green, would appear on screen. I assume you either have a mainboard or T-con issue.
      Without knowing what TV you have however, it will be difficult to help.

      Hello,
      it sounds like you have the cycling on and off issue that is commonly caused by the mainboards. If this were my TV, I would either get a new mainboard, or get my original serviced/fixed.

    I spent $200 buying a power board, main board, & T-com board, for a 58" Sharp with picture & only standby power light on. Nothing worked. Can't send the parts back to JimmyTv. Save your money, buy new.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you may be misplacing your frustration.
      First I am sorry to hear this has happened, I understand how irretating that can be.
      I would like to add however that the 58" sharp sets typically have LED strip failures. So indeed the parts you purchased wouldn't have fixed that issue. It is a slightly tougher diagnostic to make and can be easy to miss if you aren't familiar with TV repair.
      I think a good diagnostic is very important to avoid purchasing the wrong parts, which is why I create these videos, to give you insight on how to properly diagnose your TV the first time.

      4 blinks is going to be a backlight failure. If you have an OLED set, then I don't think you can fix that.
      I would highly recommend you go to a local shop to have it double checked however.

    HELP...just found your channel...my Sony XBR 900E has no power/led. I haven't used the TV in a while but I get no light or power. I tried a second AC adaptor and that didn't work. I opened the back and tested where the power plugs in(Small little board) for 19 volts and that seems fine. From there is a middle board, then---->Board with the inputs. No light from optical. Anything else to check?
