- How do you install snaplock standing seam metal roofing panels on a house?

Once perimeter flashings are installed, it's time to begin laying down panels. Today on The Metal Roofing Channel, we continue Adam Mazzella's home roof project by installing SMI 1.5"Snaplock 450 panels. This video covers panel field fabrication, clip spacing, roof transitions, and general best practices.
NOTE: Sheffield recommends 5 screws minimum for z-closures.

When bending the top of the panel, you should “bread pan” and not cut the make and female side off. This creates a spot where water can penetrate with wind driven rain for instance. You should know this.

I want to see how a ridge vent is installed, and how difficult it is to retrofit if a ridge vent was not installed.
Good video as usual. Any chance you could do one on a change in pitch transition for a patio? In particular, one that is not at the gutter edge but one that starts back up the roof a couple feet.

We have a metal roof install in progress at present in Florida. The contractor initially gave us a 2 week install estimate following the tear down and peel & stick application. It’s been over 2 months and it’s about halfway done in between multiple rain downpours. Will this be an issue with metal panels going over wet stick & peel ? Our contractor says it will “ Burn off”
Another great video, question on the pipe penetrations why not go in the attic and move the ABS pipe to land in the center of the panel? Also why do you prefer a rubber boot instead of doing a split panel and aluminum flashing that would last the life of the metal roof? Looking forward to your next video! Thanks.
Thanks! You can absolutely move pipes to land in the center of the panel, especially if you are already replacing plywood or if it's a new build and you can plan ahead. Jason (a Sheffield Metals warranty inspector) mentions that in our panel layout video (bit.ly/lay-out-square-metal-roofing-panels-video). Sheffield recommends EPDM pipe boots because they are readily available, easy to install, and simple to replace. If you have a detail you prefer, that's great and Sheffield's technical department would be willing to take a look at it if there is a warranty involved. About gutters placement, when is the right time to address its installation relative to the metal roof?
Most installers recommend some kind of venting system between the peel and stick and the metal roofing. Is there some reason you skip this step?

that is extremely expensive, only place that would matter is florida. Attics already get hot.

Didn't touch on how to spread....having said this this is why I prefer mechanical lock over snap lock because spread snap lock can cause uplift failure
Why on earth would you prep the panels on the roof?
Just preference on this project. Some of the panels were prepped on the roof, many were prepped on the ground. It depended on the stage of installation and also the filming requirements at that particular moment. -Thad
You cut the panels ribs to fit the vent pipe 😂🤣😥🤦♂️🤦♂️👎 this is a junk metal roofs
That detail was finished later using z closures and a piece of flat stock. We do not recommend installing a pipe boot directly onto panel ribs. -Thad
You put screws for clips in the tops of the panels lol. Neoprene washer screws are meant to be used. And you’re layout wasn’t good that’s why you were running off. And let’s not bring up the pipe on the back lol. It probably took you a month to finish that job. Hack butchers
I wouldn't touch the roof of that house and put my name on it until I ripped those trash filled gutters down. Who in the world would come put on a new roof and allow those gutters still be in place slap full of crap but yet ya preach thru the whole video about keeping clean lol...Not a very good marketing tool guys

You guys aren't Metal roofers. Panels can't stretch. what's you talking about 🤦♂️👎👎
Those panels can contract and expand a lot more than you think. I'm not even a roofer and I know that! That's exactly why you should never install metal directly onto a shingle roof(although many idiots do) over the years, the contraction/expansion will rub across the shingle grit like sandpaper and start rusting out from the bottom!
