    04:56 | Conclusion
    This video serves as a comparison between the Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 and the Toughbook CF-20. These two units are both hybrids, so they are able to be either a tablet or laptop depending on the situation. First thing, the bigger CF-33 is also heavier than the CF-20. The CF-33 comes in at 6.1 pounds with the AC adapter, 5.5 pounds without the AC adapter, and 3.5 pounds as just a tablet. The CF-20 on the other hand only has a total weight of 5.5 pounds with the AC adapter and with just the tablet, it weighs 2.5 pounds. While it is a tablet, its smaller size makes it a good rival for the Toughpad FZ-G1. Some things that these units have in common include that they both have the same port covers, they both have dual batteries, they both have front and back cameras, and they both have backlit keyboards with the same-sized mousepads. One difference with the batteries to note is that the CF-20 has one battery in the keyboard and one battery in the tablet while the CF-33 has both batteries in the tablet. This is because of the smaller size of the CF-20. Another difference between these units is that the latches operate differently. On the CF-33 the latch is a rotating latch and on the CF-33 it is a lifting latch. Bob also offers his personal preference and recommendation. Tune in to learn more.

      The CF-20 has some issues that we have been seeing over the past year. We stopped selling that model due to those issues. The CF-33 seems to be very reliable, with no real issues. I would go with the CF-33 if I was you: www.bobjohnson.com/rugged-laptops/?_bc_fsnf=1&Model=CF-33

    Fantastic comparison, Bob. I have three CF-20's after exhausting my eBay source. You sold me on the CF-33 as a potential alternative for my amateur radio field work.

    Does the touch screen work under heavy rain like it does with the old resistive screen toughpads? I liked the fact that you could use the screen in the forest with a stick from ground. Didn't need to think about losing the pen. Do they mind getting accidentally bapticed in a swamp or a ditch or a pond?
    I used the old pad as a forestry engineer with my previous employer. They propably still use them

    • @Bobjohnson
      @Bobjohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Both are fully rugged and rated IP65 so they are made to withstand "powerful water jets"(more on rugged ratings here: www.bobjohnson.com/blog/rugged-laptop-certifications/), and while they are both capacitive touch (not resistive), they are multi-touch so you can use them with or without a stylus, with gloves on, or with oily or wet hands. These screens don't require nearly as much pressure as the old-school resistive touch- so no stick is needed. However, if that's your thing, no worries -we still offer some beastly CF-19's, 30's and 31's. We don't recommend submerging the CF-20 and CF-33 (no Toughbook is truly waterproof), but a quick baptism in some water shouldn't slow you down. If you're in the market for a new or used fully-rugged we'd be happy to help you pick one out that meets your needs. I own CF-20mk1 and I find it a little bit too small for it to be daily driver. Would CF-33 be a better alternative? For sure, CF-33 has bigger screen, but would that be big enough to use more as regular laptop?
    Also, would be nice if you do some demo of CF-33 with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (gnome3). I know you guys have some Linux people out there.

    • @Bobjohnson
      @Bobjohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I certainly like the CF-33 better than the CF-20. I feel that it is much more rugged laptop. In regards to the screen size, I use the CF-33 on a regular basis and have no issues with screen size.
      We plan on adding the CF-33 with Ubuntu to our linux videos soon. Thanks for watching.

    Will I be able to easily type in this, or any Toughbook, at the beach in full sunlight?

    • @Bobjohnson
      @Bobjohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi toc246, Toughbooks have differing levels of nits (screen brightness) the higher the number of nits, the easier it will be to see the screen outside in the sunlight. CF-19's have the highest nit count, followed by the CF-20, CF-30, CF-31, and then CF-33, in that order. To learn more about nits, check out our video here: th-cam.com/video/XD2SgSsBLRU/w-d-xo.html

      So, with Toughbooks it can be tricky. There is a model number on the bottom of all the units that start with CF-31 and CF-19 respectfully. The character after the CF-31 and the CF-19 in the model number is what tells you which MK it is. Refer to the table in our blog post here www.bobjohnson.com/blog/a-note-on-model-numbers-for-toughbook-nerds/ to see which one you have.
