That marvellous voice…perfect for this poem. Diction, colour, nuance, pacing, a great actor as always. Thank you!

This and Bryan Cranston's versions are by far the best!

Agreed! Different styles but both versions give us strong feelings.

I love the reverb when he reads the inscription. Great images!! Especially the mummies... underscores that it's not just the works of great men that fade, but the men themselves.

This is by far the best reading I have come across on youtube. All the others are rushed and it seems as if they can't understand the focal points in this poem and put the emphasis elsewhere. I very much fancy the fact that Price does not rush through the words and stresses on the correct spots. Besides, he's had been cast in a number of motion pictures settled in ancient Egypt, so it is natural that it comes a little easier for him, if I may use 'easier' in this case. Anyway, marvelous reading!

+Nefertari This is from Price's first album, of Shelley poetry reading, for Caedmon Records. Most of his later records for them were fine collections of horror fiction/poetry/related matter readings. HarperAudio bought Caedmon, and has fitfully put some of it back in press over the years...

Shouldn't rush something that's evoking the idea of centuries of decay.

@patrick henry whole heartedly disagree. Cranston evoked much more emotion. The way he builds up the writing on the wall to an almost angry and powerful command from a king. Then suddenly, calm and nothingness.
Feel this one didn't evoke that emotion as well.

There's something spooky about Vincent Price's reading of this poem.

That's why he was so in demand for horror films in the 1950s and 60s.

Ozymandias is already a perfect episode, but Vincent Price doing the poem before the cold opening would make it even more perfect.

How good is Vincent Price ?
Every night, God insists he read him a bedtime story.
    That good.

this always reminds me of the assyrian empire, the longest lasting empire in history, lasted for 1800 years, countless kings, now largely forgotten. dan carlin tells the tale in his podcast judgement at nineveh and king of kings series.

Every president today, before sitting in the presidential chair, MUST read and remember this great song. So when he understands those instructive verses, only then should he take the place of the president of the state.

While I appreciate Mr. Cranston's work, I find I take umbrage at the comparison between he and Mr. Price's readings...
One was read because of a great appreciation for art...for the sake of the abstruse nature of art in it's myriad forms...
...and the other because it was written into a script.

oneduality As somebody who hasn't watched Breaking Bad, I have to disagree. His reading of it is very bland, you are letting your enjoyment of the show and attachment to the character cloud your judgment. It might fit nicely into that episode, but as a stand alone ready the Price version is much better (though still not that great).
