A small tip: in chrome enable the 2023 ui refresh (the icons are much cleaner lol) and set your theme to tokyonight. Really gets the aesthetic going

I actually got MacBook Air m2 with 16gb ram since late of July and I feel like it was the best value of money for a new product and not refurbished… I do coding and heavy browsing (chrome) due to extensions and many tabs with tools open at the same time + 5-8 native apps at the same time… Usually my ram is at 12-14 out of the available 16 gb ram… I don’t use any video editing apps…
So far I had no issues, no lag and super speed on everything. Also having 15 inch is so rewarding for my eyes (upgrading from 13 inch), even if I have an external monitor… For me that’s the perfect choice, as if you decide to go for the 14 inch m3 and 16 gb of ram, then there is a definitely gap in pricing, which I don’t feel like that it will get justified by the hz and the fan… Maybe I’m wrong… I haven’t decided yet… If it was the m3 pro version for that price, I would definitely reconsider that…
How much storage are you using? The reason for the price gap is due to the screen which has increased brightness, sharpness, OLED like panel, higher refresh rate, much much more ports, more powerful chip, better speakers and lastly the fan as you mentioned which can be really useful for more graphical tasks

no matter the platform, 8gb RAM is not enough, 256gb of storage too, I bought a m1 air, I work with docker, flutter, python(pycharm) with a second monitor, there so much usage of swap memory, it kills your ssd, so always get the 16gb ones. I also almost filled 256gb in like 3 months, I was forced to use some tool to free some space
It was the other way around when M2 MacBook Air was launched and targeted programmers. It said good-bye to MacBook Pro. For me, my choice after knowing a device can do my computing needs the form factor comes next. The thinner and lighter the device the better.

Just image your mac with the tools/apps needed. Alternative would be scripts to pull dotfiles and other dev tools too.

Hello, I am a computer science student and I am entering my final 2 years of university, but I need to change my PC fairly quickly. However, I'm not sure which MacBook Air to choose between the M1, M2, or M3, and I'm undecided on whether to go for a base model or one with more RAM and storage for my development tools (Eclipse/IntelliJ, VSCode, Docker, Android Studio, etc.). Also, considering that I will keep it for at least 3 years.
Ignore the M1. Find a good deal on an M2 with upgraded RAM. It’ll be less than an M3 and provide you with 98% of the same experience. Unless money is no object, then upgrade a brand new M3. It’ll last you the longest

Does the lid stick to its top case once you open it in the morning making a sticky sound, for example, as it was on previous 14 inch macs? It makes some noise and i'm currently having the second one which is m1 pro, does it make some light sound (not related to the previous question) when adjusting the screen (opening) move back and forward and it makes a little click sound, does it happen on the 3rd gen (m3 pro)?

Memory leaking in to the ssd is a good way to destroy your ssd very fast, and when its not replaceable and the bios is on the nand, you will have an expensive brick in no time
What are the specs you demonstrated ?
Assuming next year I get this laptop for 1250 dollars and I have the option to choose between this and the M2 MacBook Pro 13 inch for 750 dollars, would the stretch be worth it? I would use the laptop for 2 years and pass it to my dad who would do trading. I would swap this and get an M(x) max series chip because I know my workflow will change with videography and AI Model training 2 years down the line. What do you suggest?
Entirely depends on what you're using it for. Personally, I’d go for the M2 with at least 16gb ram for half the price

You mention about docker. I’m backend dev using .NET, running docker for db server (sqlserver, azure cosmos). In may daily dev using windows machine, it consumes about 20-26GB of memory. Do you think MBP Pro M3 with 16GB will satisfy my need? I’m really curious for switching to mac, as I’m long iPhone user.
Considering there's no way to upgrade ram in MacBooks, I’d suggest going for the M3 pro chip with 36GB ram. The 24GB M3 chip might be enough, but I wouldn't take that risk

I'm just curious, will my usage in macos be the same as in windows laptop (in term of CPU & memory usage). If so, I probably switch back to windows laptop, because I mostly connected with power source for most of the time, and of course, saving budget.
@@fakhrulhilal MacOS is generally more efficient with RAM, but it's not magic. MacOS does use swap quite well, so in the real world, 16 GB might be enough if you're OK with a slowdown once you need something that is swapped. I haven't tried this with Docker, so I don't know for sure. I guess the 24 GB RAM would be enough, but I like having a sizeable buffer so I’d go for the 36GB for future proofing. What you're paying for with the M-series Macs is a damn fast and efficient chip in a portable package.
If you don't work without being plugged in and don't mind a fatter laptop, Windows (or Linux) might be the better choice.
@@kimekholm7178 I get that. But Windows uses swap (virtual memory, AFAIK) as well, right? And Windows is more greedy when using it, it takes the swap even though there are still available memory in our machine. The question is more like, how slow MacOS when swap is being used? And I believe, Apple restrict app developer more (in term of resource usage) than MS for Windows app developer. What I don't know, is docker in MacOS is more resource efficient/better than Windows version, that sorts of thing.

I kinda think 16gb if a must specially for ML stuff. In my tests I'm purely reviewing base models but once you start loading up the air in terms of RAM, Itll definitely help you out more... (when it comes to just work)

8 gb ram is just cheap for a laptop that costs 2000€ here in Europe. I mean my Swap usage reaches 9 gb sometimes when i have a couple of IDEs and some browser Tabs open. I should not have to worry about that when i am spending so much money on a laptop.
Sure 8gb ram performs better than other laptops, but it doesn't perform like a 16 gig laptop. I am switching back as soon as this Laptop gives up!!!! (And there is only 1 External monitor support :| )
Don't mind brother, but reviewers should mention that commerce, business students are going to be super happy with this machine but Computer Science students who will end up working on some RAM demanding projects (plus other projects of their own) should look a Windows laptop and save a ton (even after buying an external Monitor)!!!
