    I’m not nearly rich enough to be set up like that for pure analog with all the works for tape and vinyl (not until I win the lottery) - but comparing the DCC release of the self-titled album compared to the traditional CD is definitely noticeable. The piano solo in the crystal ship is almost 3-dimensional, absolutely chilling.

    Yes the 45 version wins, in my opinion. More natural sounding, although it is recorded a bit louder, and most of us will confuse louder with "better" in the first listening. But even so, i thing the 45 is better.

    I downloaded and listened to the files. 45 somehow has narrower stereo image. It also has more low mids. Some remastered albums have narrower stereo image than originals, Rubber Soul etc but i dont get it why in this case the remastered has wider stereo image?

    • @anadialog
      @anadialog  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I must admit that the sound between the two is different, not only for the quality but as you mentioned for the imaging but also something else is going on. Considering the The older box was digitalized and they could fix everything they wanted and with tape not very much, I tend to thing that the AAA version is more faithful to the original recordings...

    We’ve NEVER once, had a bad experience with Acoustic Sounds/Analogue Productions. When we discover a AP release, we know what we’re getting-period. The last LP we received from them was “Amused To Death” by Roger Waters. From the LP cover to the polylined sleeves to the 200g vinyl itself-PURE PERFECTION. Worth every penny. I believe Pedro is talking about the 40 anniversary remixes released on CD in 2007 by Rhino. Those CDs don't have speed and pitch corrections, but new mixes with slight different aproaches here and there. So, according to your video, I believe that the 2008 Rhino's vinyl box does not have the 2007 remixes. The 2008 vinyl box has the original mixes, the original music. But the mastering of those vinyls was digital (just like a CD) and they were pitch/speed corrected.

    For me the best recordings from the doors I've put my ears are the cd versions done by Bruce Botnick and Bernie Grundman 96khz 24bit witch they claim that were done from the original master tapes. I think that's false because the Break on Through is a non censored version in witch Jim says (she get high) instead of only (she gets). For me i think it´s a remix of the original 8 track session, original, backup or similar. If you want a sample send me you email that i´ll do you a wetranfer. I have the new Chad / Doug Sax 45rpm and compared. It seems insulting to analogue but it's my ears.

      What intrigues me it that is not the censored version, so either is the master before the censored one (probably a first generation mix) or it’s a mix from the 8 track session tape. I think the first is the best bet.

  • @DarioInserra
    @DarioInserra 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mmhh, it's difficult to sort out which is more faithfull to the original...here we're listening at different mastering choices.
    Analogue productions one is more pleasant and inviting, I would guess some sort of mild compression has been applied, on the contrary the 33 rpm one sounds more relaxed (and natural IMHO).
    Digital Vs Analog has nothing to do with it... those difference are clear on two digital files made at home.

    • @anadialog
      @anadialog  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Analogue productions box is less compressed than the original releases...its 45rpm. They have double the space with half more speed that the original...plus AP did a direct transfer, no fiddling with speed and pitch...

    • @DarioInserra
      @DarioInserra 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ANA[DIA]LOG being a 45rpm release is not related with compression used during mastering.
      If you measure DR of your two files you will find that one is DR11 while the other is DR10, so we have 1 dB lower crest factor on Analogue production release; if you examine visually vaweforms you will find that a very delicate amount of limiting has been applied and also some mild compression to give a fuller and more pleasant sound. This not a bad thing in general and result is fantastic but nevertheless it’s a ‘remaster’ and probably the most faithfull to original analogue masters is the digital processed one, IMHO.

    • @anadialog
      @anadialog  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I expressed my self In the wrong manner, it's a 45 release meaning that they had to use two records to add that extra info, but they ALSO had a double amount of space, as I wrote, meaning much much less compression!

    • @DarioInserra
      @DarioInserra 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anadialog Maybe I'm not explaining it well...let's try in a different manner. ;)
      YES, it's a fact that a 45 rpm release can be more faithfull (more dynamics and details) than a 33 rpm one since it has more space between adiacent grooves and more vinyl lenght to use.
      But NO, if the master (analog or digital is the same) has less dynamic range in its own the 45rpm release can't increase it and this is also simply a fact.
      The DR mesurement of your files tells you that Analogue Production release has 1dB less crest factor and this is a fact too.
      Mastering engineers use moderate amounts of compression to 'glue' somewhat sound and give a more pleasant sound which feels more real and is also PERCEIVED as more dynamic while in fact it's not so.
      Maybe you already have it but if not I would suggest to buy Marco Lincetto's 'How&Why - The recording secrets of Velut Luna Vol.2' and listen to tracks 7 to 13, they're mastered with different techniques and amount of compression (www.velutluna.it/index.php?c=7a&l=eng&spc=&id_cat=10&pagina=1&id=223).
      After listening to those tracks it will be cleadr how it sounds a less processed/compressed production.

    • @anadialog
      @anadialog  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, yes of course. That is obvious. Can't generate info. Any record will never hold all the info on a tape, just as digital. But if we increase speed you will have more INFORMATION on the record than a lower speed. I have master tapes copies of Marco Lincetto recordings. Good but not amazing. Try Chesky recordings...they are pure and absolutely fantastic.
