    As a retired EVOC Instructor, letting the siren cycle works a whole lot better. Leaving it at hi pitch does nothing but burn out the motor brushes faster and you can actually loose the hi pitch after a while in ambient noise. A lot of car drivers have reported, "They never heard the siren" Let the Q cycle up and down to be most effective in moving traffic.

      +CaptainBlueSmoke I wish we have the Q sirens in Australia.

      +aussiefirie I travel the roads a lot and I find it so frustrating when in spite of the pretty lights, I still cannot hear the siren. It is way too high in pitch. It never use to be like that. So that is why I would love to see the Q siren introduced into Australia.

    • @aussiefirie
      @aussiefirie 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lakes Shore if you can't hear the sirens, either turn your music down in the car or get your hearing checked. have been at Central train station in Sydney and managed to hear City of Sydney station and Darlinghurst station turn out with all the noise of trains, people and traffic

    • @LakesShore
      @LakesShore 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +aussiefirie I do have a hearing impairment now, a birth defect and I wear a hearing device now. As for the music comment, I will ignore that as it is not worth getting into an argument about what I do or don't do. So you can hear in Central Sydney, goodo for you. I live in Adelaide, and I am talking about Suburban areas and country areas. I still stand by and will encourage our State Government, to introduce the Q sirens in the near future. And what's more, they are interested in the idea. ,

    Amazing siren use. Love the horn use as well. People heard that siren, stopped and pulled over. Keep pumping that q my friend. Hope to see more like this. Plus he used that much q since there were several hundred cars on the road. Safty first man.

    Have to say I'm impressed that the other drivers are actually moving to the side. I've watched several response video's where people don't move over or try to beat the truck through an intersection.

    Very funny to see that. Fire trucks in Germany have only one switch. For turning the sirene on and turning it off :D Fire trucks in USA needs an driver and one more guy who is only playing with the sirenes XD

  • @EnjoyFirefighting
    @EnjoyFirefighting 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    huhh? I don't know which FD in Germany you talk about, but many fire trucks do have several different sirens: the air driven martin horn, the electronic siren, some additionally have the high-pitched electronic siren. And for the normal electronic siren there are also the different modes like city mode, countryside mode and martin horn simulation mode - when you count that together you should get more than one switch :)

    Dont know what it must be like living right across the street from a fire station, good and bad, good, the firemen can walk just across the street if you have an emergency, bad, would always be waiting to hear those sirens go off whenever a Engine or Engines leave the station,. I have a station where everyday at Noon the station has a outdoor siren that winds up, holds the top note for about 10-20 seconds then it winds down after that, can prety much hear it throughout the whole town......

    If the Officer on this rig would have taken his foot off of the "Q" and put it up the drivers BUTT for all of those red lights he busted on the way, the likelyhood of having an accident at those intersections would have been greatly reduced. You guys need to understand that Red Lights and Sirens DO NOT GIVE YOU the right to bust Red Lights at intersections. I am sure those riding at your mercy would appreciate that. Stay Safe out there!!

    The Q is a old style mechanical siren which is still popular with Fire Departments. Its probably working off a foot pedal, as you can manipulate how long you can hold it at a high decibel, then letting go it draws down, and will go back up whenever you hit the pedal again. Basically human operated at choice. There are Electronic versions of this now which are on more of a auto function though I think some are also coming out that allow human manipulation. The Mechanical One is louder though.

    we often blast through red lights and intersections with hardly slowing down, of course only when we see that cross traffic has stopped. There wasn't a single accident with an emergency vehicle in my city caused by that as long as I can think back.

    I had a person one time seeing the hoses here ours were laid across the road a Drunk Driver drove past me and others and right over the hoses almost hitting guys and a fire truck Don't even think the driver seen us sure never remembered doing it in court found Guilty on several counts 4.0 test at hospital DUI and other charges to I don't think he saw any thing that night not even the fire he did not remember doing any of it major fire to... Makes you wonder...

    What makes this funny is not only that he is Q Happy, but when he doesnt need he never lifts his foot but when he does need it he barely touches it... Im surprised that Q didnt burn up and jump off the front bumper lol. I only full blast it at intersections and in heavy traffic. The rest of the time i pretty much try to keep it around 3/4 crank on the highway and rev it at about 2/5 crank on an empty street just in case someone pops up or I need to blast it quickly.

    Look up federal signals operating guides some time. The Q is supposed to be allowed to wind down. Every time you push that pedal down you are making the batteries scream as you pull 100amps out of them. By by batteries.

    The Qb2 siren needs to cycle up and down, the change in the siren pitch from low to high and back again is what gets the attention of the traffic, NOT putting your foot into it and letting it reach the high pitch and stay there..

    Also wanted to ask you this if I may, since the door was already open as you left, dont know if you have a automatic door opener on it, but if yu do, and I know this has happened quite often with them, but what would you do if for some reason the automatic door opener failed and you werent able to open the door not even with the emergency Pull Cord that a lot of them have, does the station have a back door as weel, or would yu just have to let dispatch know that you are not able to get the truck(s) out because of a faulty door???????

      +Andrew Silva If the door would not open in some situation we would contact the Chief on the radio and make him aware. The chief would make the call at that point and that would be up to the chief. If the chief said we need that truck then we would find a way.
