    Amtrak was moving equipment to LA in response to the mud slides in Santa Barbara and the closing of US 101. They are adding extra server between Santa Barbara and Ventura.

    The range on that drone must be ridiculous.

    Nicely done with the drone following the train as it snaked through the hills and tunnels.

    Great & awesome video of my most favorite Amtrak route which is the Coast Starlight/Pacific Surfliner that I travel on between San Diego, Los Angeles & Oxnard. The value of having passenger train service was proven when the 3 engines and some San Joaquin & Capital Corridor train cars were going to Los Angeles to help out the Pacific Surfliners while U.S.101 was closed due to the mud slides near Santa Barbara. It showed how important passenger train service really is.

    Thanks for the detailed view of Cuesta rail line, really helps modeling it accurately. I didn't realize the erosion had exposed the backs of the tunnels concrete entrances at the top corners. Nice detail to have an aerial view only way to spot it. Thanks again.

    Absolutely awesome video! I just thought how much fun it would be to spot Amtrak trains with a drone and your video is the standard to be met! Very cool how how met the train exiting the tunnel. Very well timed!

    It's amazing how far you can fly that thing away from you, unless you're on the train itself! How does this work ? That reminded me of my years with the N-scale train hobby. Really nice job!

      Peter Karig I watch the drone videos of the Coast Starlight being followed in the San Luis Obispo, CA area. I one day plan to do an N gauge model railroad of the Southern Pacific now Union Pacific Coast route. I already have an Amtrak Superliner N gauge train set of 2 engines, a baggage car, & 7 Superliner cars and some track for a starter.

    I am impressed by the drone's abilities to fly so far from the controller and go to the opposite side of a mountain without losing control. How far can your drone fly and for how long?

      Indeed stunning footage, however, I was thinking the same and I am wondering if Amtrak approved of this? It is interesting how the creator of this footage is not responding to any of the questions or comments, makes me wonder if what they were doing was legal.

      With my current setup, the audio is recorded where I am standing through the remote control. It would be very tough for me to get the audio in this area because I have to stand so far away from the train to keep signal for this shot.

    • @Ferrocarril_Chicago
      @Ferrocarril_Chicago 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gotcha. I just assumed that the mic was in the drone with the camera. Your drone seems to keep up speed with the train. Just out of curiosity, how fast can that thing go at full speed?

    • @StevenMConroy
      @StevenMConroy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is DJI Phantom 4 Pro, in sport mode it will do 45mph or so depending on the wind.

    • @jgalexander510
      @jgalexander510 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would be great to hear the audio of the train, however the issue with a mic on the drone is that it just picks up prop noise. Hard to hear much over that... :-)

      4:15 - 4:35 you can see the entire consist. Also I'm sure the reason why this vid is heavy on loco shots is due to the special circumstances of the 5 engines. You want the vid a certain way? ... then buy a "damned drone" and make your own.

    • @dennispersson9466

      Only in Ameriqua can you have the right to ask for a shot of the train wheels going over the drone, to satisfy our sick needs.
