Me neither. It doesn't matter how many tutorials I watch, it's a hot mess lol. I can maybe do a semi decent furnish, but cas is where it's at for me. I spent an entire week once, 4-8 hours a day just in CAS and not even playing the game. It gets addictive. I always try to make my sims different and they always get 4-5 every day outfits, two active, one formal, three sleeping, two party, three hot and cold weather. And it's never like one sim. It's one sim and their three roommates, or a family of 7, etc etc lol.

I love how you and James are both equally confused about upstairs kitchens. The vast majority are on the bottom floor, but occasionally if somewhere has a wonderful view then they will put the living areas upstairs to make the most of the view, as that's where you would be spending most time. And we don't have to worry about the heat rising with our UK weather haha.

Dylan Thomas Dawson well if you have a gaming pc but no designated office/gaming room, you would put it in your bedroom and spend a lot of time in your bedroom. My mother in law spends the majority of her time in her bedroom in her house. Her husband prefers the living room. Personally I prefer my bedroom. It has my chargers for my phone and iPad. It has my gaming setup. It’s beautiful, and much easier to warm up (South Africa is in Autumn now) than my living room. I prefer to eat at my desk. My tv is great and all but just a bit clunky, Apple TV just isn’t as easy as using a mouse on my pc. I guess I’ll always be a teenager at heart, my room is kind of my main living space. Plus my bed will always be comfier than my stupid couch lol.

    • @dylantd9189
      @dylantd9189 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Seal_pup I guess. But if you're building a house, and you know you will spend most of your time in the living area, then it would be best to have that area on the second floor.
Also my parents only have a bed and a dresser in their bedroom, they only use the room to sleep, they spend all their time in the living room. However they live in a single story house.
But most people, use the living areas daily, during the day. Where bedrooms are spend in the evening/night...

The reason kitchens are on upper floors in small spaces is because the building usually isn't big enough to have a fire escape. Say if there was a fire on the bottom floor and you were at the top you would essentially end up trapped and it would pose a hazard.
If there's a fire on the top floor then you're sleeping or in social spaces below it is a safer and quicker escape.
Lots of commercial homes do not have plumbing possibilities for sprinklers also.
I hope that clarifys it for you and James,
I work as a head chef and have to work on escape plans in case of fire and floor level and escape routes are always considered.
Also smoke goes up, you will probably suffocate from lack of oxygen if kitchen is on bottom floor before even knowing the extent of the fire.

The only place I've ever seen a kitchen on the second floor is in a new york brownstone, but that would probably be because it was renovated that way. Kitchens in old colonial buildings were almost always on the "garden" floor because that was the easiest place for servants to enter and prepare meals.
I think people probably started putting their kitchens on the second floor because they wanted more natural light and space. But also keep in mind that most brownstones have an entrance to the "second" floor so it's technically the first floor, and the first is just a ground-level basement. :)

As a Brit I can confirm upstairs kitchens make up the minority. You would usually walk into a little area/corridor with a W/C and then the stairs one side and a door to the living room and straight through to the end of the corridor is a kitchen. Upstairs kitchens are pretty rare and confuse most of us. I don’t know why grand designs do us dirty like that

Deli, I'm in the UK (Scotland specifically) and even I don't understand why they do that in Grand Designs. I built my actual home, which is council rented (social renting) on TS4 a while ago. It's up on the gallery "Somewhere in Scotland" I might have to re-do because there is no way that is to scale, if only we could put double doors in a 3 tile wall but have either side, walls instead of door frame. Then it would be to scale.
Most houses do have the kitchen downstairs unless they are flats (apartments) of course. I suppose the maisonettes would be upstairs, up by one level, but they are usually above commercial properties and have no access to the shop downstairs from the house specifically. Even then again, you don't want to go all the way up to another level to get to the kitchen so they have their.
I grew up in Glasgow in a tenement flat at the very top and watched (and sometimes helped) the struggle of my mother bringing in the messages (Scots speak for shopping) and completely puffed out when we got to the top. Kept the fitness level up for sure. I remember, because the circular stairwell was our favourite as kids. We would hop onto the banister and slide all the way down to the bottom. Dangerous now when I think about it. They then decided to put little metal spikes on the banisters to stop us all - ouch.
    Property types in the UK
Detached, Semi-Detached, End Terrace, Mid-Terrace, Four in a block (literally means 4 apartments but only goes up one level, 2 houses downstairs, 2 houses upstairs), Bungalow, Maisonette, Cottage, Flats (tenement or otherwise) Bedsits. There are probably other types of house, but these are the ones that I can think of, off the top of my head.

With the problem you were having about not being able to find room for a shower. You should've used the university shower. It takes up no room and you can fit it in a 3 tile bathroom with a sink and toilet!

Jess_ Janexx a lot of times they put the master bedroom on the bottom floor so it’s separated from the other bedrooms for my privacy and to keep it quiet, but the kitchen will still be on the bottom floor as well!

My friend's house has the kitchen on the second floor. She complains every single time she goes grocery shopping. Once I told her she should have bought a normal house with the kitchen on the first floor. I love my house. I park next to my big porch, go up one step and walk directly into my kitchen. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

@@20sam11 it depends on the style of house. A raised ranch/bilevel house has 2 kitchens in it, one upstairs one downstairs (the idea is that your mother/m-i-l lives downstairs so it's her kitchen down there) its tops like 6-7 steps up from the front door

Don't know if you've already done it, but I think doing each room of the house in a different design style, e.g. bedroom midcentury and living room art deco, but making it fit together as a house

When building tiny houses with stairs, you can create a room with fences, the thin ones from get to work work best, and put them own upstairs where the open part of the stairs would be. You can then delete that room and put the stairs in. The sims can still walk over the fence and the tiles that would have been there due to the stairs aren't counted into the tile count.

Lol I live in a flat in the UK with the kitchen on the second floor and bedrooms on the first - it's a PAIN carrying shopping all the way up, but it makes the flat feel a lot more spacious, with more windows in the living space, and direct access from the living space to our roof terrace :)

Deli! How did you fix the stacked stairs? I've been having the same issue with a townhouse I built; there is a tile under the stairs I can't delete because fencing deletes the whole staircase, and I can't place stairs intersecting a fence.
    Please help!

you could have put the shower in the first bathroom in the center, kinda like a wet bathroom, its still useable. so left to right it would go sink, shower in front of the door, and then toilet , then you could have kept the lofts :) beautiful build

  • @bakercake8274

If you highlight a room and go up a floor and click the yellow border to add a ceiling it doesn't count towards tiles and automatically deletes the part that is under the glass roof! Hope this helps =D

I think in Grand Designs they tend to put the kitchen on a higher floor because then the living spaces take the fullest advantage of the views, rather than the bedrooms where you spend less time. That's what they tend to say anyway. I don't think it'd make sense to have the kitchen upstairs for heat since kitchens get hot quicker than the rest of the house anyway?

I live in Scandinavia and our kitchen and living room is upstairs because the house is on a tiny hill so there’s not as many windows downstairs. We would rather have a view where we spend most of our time. Now we can enjoy our ocean view and beautiful sunsets🥰

I'm from the UK and can say without a doubt that having a kitchen upstairs in your house is not at all common. Some really old townhouses had the kitchen in the basement but I've never been to a house where the kitchen isn't on the ground floor.
