      I've had 3 teeth pulled, and it was by FAR the easiest dental procedure I've ever had. They numb your entire mouth, you literally feel none of it, and they usually give you headphones. Not to mention that you get sedated to the point that you literally couldn't care less what they're doing. (You can also request to be put under if you need to.)

      Yeah and spend $2000-3000 for a surgical extraction. (Oh australia)
      Or spend about $400 instead.
      Yeah for GA, there’s a very real chance of going code blue (Ie, medical emergency) as well.

    if y'all have a tooth extraction soon, i'm here to tell you that you shouldn't even worry. the injection, if that's what you're scared of, is just a little pinch and they keep the needle out of sight. plus, most of the time, they use numbing cream on the area even before that. if you're scared of the actual extraction, then know this. there. is. no. pain. just pressure. it might be a little startling, but there's no pain, and it's very much bearable. I also suggest you talk to your oral surgeon during the process, it can save you from feeling any pain due to not enough anesthetic. take care, and good luck with your extraction!

      There’s some teeth that are easy to get pulled out - I’ve had those. No pain, hardly any pressure. Tooth comes out quick and easy.
      BUT
      Then there’s those that are SO hard to take out- including those that are fused to the bone (mandible). I’ve had those too, unfortunately. It’s painful, although it’s not a sharp pain- it’s more dull with extreme pressure. I had to get several anesthetic injections as the procure took forever.
      Because of my nerves I felt like it still hurt , but then there’s a limit of how much anesthesia they can use on you.
      I see where you’re coming from , it can be a smooth easy process, but it can also be a living nightmare

    About two weeks ago I had the exact same operation. It was a broken tooth with triple roots back in my upper mouth and when the procedure started I didn't know what was going on. I was hearing loud bangs in my head as if someone is using a hammer. Watching this video now I realize that it was the surgical bur. My dentist probably used a bur with edges. So when it was rotating it was cutting the tooth and causing hammer like noise in my brain. It took about half an hour to extract the tooth piece by piece. She placed some paste in the hole as shown in this video and then she stitched the gum. I did not feel anything, except the last needle which went very deep in my pallet to the root. The dentist was superb and did a fantastic job. After the anesthesia wore off, I didn't even use any pain killer. It is fully cured after 2 weeks.

    Just pointing out that they won’t use a drill unless they top of the tooth breaks off not giving them anything to grasp onto with the forceps. That tool they use to remove the gums from the tooth is called an elevator, it’s actually used to “elevate” the tooth, and or loosening it. They don’t generally have to use a surgical method if the tooth doesn’t break or show signs of surgical intervention. For anyone who is scared now don’t be scared please, it’s a quick process where they numb the tooth, loosen it a bit, and then use the forceps to gentle rock the tooth and pull it out. Every dentist has different methods but generally they won’t jump to using a drill this quickly.

    • @rastathebanana
      @rastathebanana 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it goes:
      1. numbing cream applied to tooth.
      1.5. temporarily move archwire (if needed).
      2. syringe gets put in the gum ( it'll hurt bad for like, 2 seconds).
      3. elevator goes in, loosens the gum around the tooth.
      4. tweezers pull the tooth out (you wont feel anything because your gum is numbed [at most you'll just feel pressure]).
      4.5. put archwire back in (if needed).
      5. done. (gum will still be numb for 2~4 hours. you might get a slight toothache after the medicine goes away, but it wont be that bad).

    Do clarify that this is a surgical extraction performed by an oral surgeon.
    Under a general extraction performed by a general dentist, most of the time, the use of a fast handpiece drill will not be used. The said 'tools' called luxators/elevators are solely used to rock the tooth and then followed by forceps to extract the tooth.
    The dentist will then examine the socket for any bits of tooth still in the socket. Most of the time, the sharp bits of bone will be left as it will be healed.

    • @SmileInfluencers
      @SmileInfluencers  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      General dentists who routinely perform extractions use surgical hand-pieces everyday. This is dependent upon a variety of factors but most importantly the anatomy of the tooth. . . A molar with divergent roots should be planned for sectioning prior to picking up that instrument.

      Yeah this isn't common in the US either, they just have us bite down on some gauze and send us on our way. This is why people hate the dentist, they try to do things as cheaply as possible most of time.

      The gauze actually helps promote the formation of a clot. Dry socket has to do with poor aftercare. Small fragments (bone spicules) can be common and are naturally pushed out by your body during the healing process. A quick Google search could tell you all of this.

      👋 I’ve seen this comment before because I think some dental students are taught to use the term instrument in front of patients. An instrument is typically used to gather information and a tool is used to perform an action. In this video, I am using tools (periosteal elevator, forceps, curettes). If I was using a periodontal probe it would be considered an instrument. All the best, Sami

    It took a week to seal up since I have an autoimmune disorder.

    As someone who needs to get all 4 wisdoms out asap with no money to do so this looks incredibly scary. Bottom 2 are impacted and growing literally sideways (you can see the sides of the tooth instead of the top if you looked at my teeth) and my top wisdom teeth grew in at an angle also having major holes on the underside leading to massive cavity/decay areas. I don’t know if I can make it that long due to health complications but if I can get my wisdoms out soon before I die of an infection that’d be great.
    If your wondering I’ve always had bad teeth, but for about 3 months now (since my wisdom teeth started to move) I haven’t been able to properly chomp down fully as in I can’t eat meat that’s over cooked or anything like that it’s either tinder/soft or I can’t eat it, but since it’s been moving and coming out extremely slowly my gums in the back swell and decrease and swell more I haven’t genuinely closed my mouth in about 4 days. I can’t do a single thing about it except pray to god and work more hours in hopes I have a stack to use at the dentist with no insurance

    Unfortunately not all dentists add the collagen and suture it closed so you're just left there waiting for the holes to heal, running the risk of the blood clots loosening and then developing dry socket (happened to me).

    • @Vinsanity48
      @Vinsanity48 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can't place sutures in every socket. You'll have to break the bones surrounding your tooth to do that everytime and until and unless it wasn't already damaged during extraction or you aren't going to go for implants straightaway afterwards it's not really worth it. Dry socket happens mostly when post operative instructions are not followed properly or if the the extraction was traumatic.
