  • Two of my favorite studio / practice amps of all time! I think it's a good idea to compare them with different tones. To see how they really performs.

For my taste the champion is the winner. Although there are are some high frequencies, I think this could be adjustable. The champion in my ears has this brightness and punchiness that I really like while the nux sounds more compact and confined to my ears. They both sound great but I think I’m gonna stick to buying the one I intended too in the first place, the champion 20. Thanks for the video!

The Champion is more alive. Much better frequency range. The Nux sounds dull. Limited frequency response. But the bottom line is what one personally likes for their playing style. I've personally heard the Champion 20 push out some beautiful warm tones as well as high screaming distortion, which makes the Champion amp more versatile for many different playing styles. Let's face it. Fender has been around since 1946. I think that over those years, they know what they are doing. I've played Fender guitars through Fender amps for years, and I don't see myself changing ever. The Champion is clearly the winner for me. I appreciate that you do short licks to demo each amp. I hate it when those who demo amps play on and on as if they are either boasting their playing agility or trying to slyly audition online. Much mahalo!

It could be the settings. Amps dont sound the same when they are set to the same numbers on the pots.
Surely you could tweak the Nux for the same amt of highs.
Bt you r right abt the Champion being more alive here. Ive seen other reviews where the Nux is not as muffled and glloomy.

I think today people, including myself, are conditioned to like modelling amp sounds or amp sim sounds more. But honestly, the Champion actually sounds a lot more like amps just sound. The Nux is clearly perceived as modelling sound.

Congratulations on your very comprehensive comparison of these two great amps, a lot of time and effort must have gone into this video. For me the rock tone of the Fender when you are playing hell's bells is just perfect .

Great review, I am looking at the NU-X 40bt myself. If you had a line in both at the same time, the sound might be interesting? While there were significant differences between the tones of the 2 amps, I likes the NU-X better. Sound was cleaner for the most part except for the 2nd test, although the Fender is actually cheaper in Australia than the NU-X! Suprising!!
    Thanks for taking the time!

Did you use the foot switch at the end of video only for switching between amps ? Overall, I think the NUX would fit my punk rock style more. The Fender sounded to harsh in the higher frequencies.

For a small Amp I like the Fender Champ 20 Sound. I use to use Fender back during the Mid to late 60’s in my Rock Band while in High School. Had a Fender Deluxe Reverb to start out with then I traded it in on a New Piggy Back Fender Bandmaster. I don’t have either anymore. I actually still own a 1968 Vox Viscount I restored at home recently. I purchased a Fender Champ 20 (5 years) ago to move around the house as needed. For $99 at the time I felt I couldn’t go wrong. I think today I saw them selling for $129.95.

Nux mighty is far more superior than Fender champion, sound of Nux is really nice, consistent and warm, while champion gives us some of the weirdest frequencies ever and a terrible speaker quality, I’m definitely buying the Nux

I don't know how in the world ANYONE could say the NUX sounds better than the Fender. Both companies make many great products. Depending on many factors, one may be better than the other in a given situation. But in THIS particular comparison video, the Champion 20 sounds far better and it was obvious from the git go that you were biased toward the NUX before the first note was played.

At t = 5:37 the Nux is set to give more tops. The tops prior to this were absent from the Nux. The playing is cool for the dem but the fender was set to more tops throughout up to this time point.. the Nux a bit short changed..? Fender a little down at the bottom end maybe, not sure. Also the Nux seems a bit more middy which should cut through better in a mix. Nice dem mate, we’ll done.
