    I needed a bus-friendly amp to take to open mics that weighs much less than my tube amps, to take to local open mics in smaller venues. We have some good blues jams here in Denver. It held its own at Lincon's Roadhouse Sunday, bought it the night before. I had the volume at about 9 and varied the gain depending on the song. The gain control works well with the various amp models. I normally despise modeling amps, and have no need for a Mustang 1 v2's complication.

    I bought this amp 6 months ago and I love it. I finally paired my strat with a fender amp. This is the way god wanted it. True fender sound for your fender guitars. I don't use the on board effects though. I use a Zoom G1on pedal so I can footswitch tones during a song. It also boosts the volume of the amp. I use it on stage in a small casino with computer drums and bass, so I don't know if it's loud enough with a drummer. My favorite amp so far. Buy this if you want a clean crisp sound.

      I am also looking for a amp that is clean at high volumes. I currently have Blackstar Core ID - on it to get clean, I have the put gain at 1.5 and volume at 7 (clean channel), but still on hard strumming there is some distortion. This is disappointing. I also use G1Xon. My question is how clean is the clean on this amp? If I have to get distorted sound, I prefer using the pedal patches.

      Same here....I just got rid of a blackstar artisan ae that cost $400 and I can get every British tone the blackstar had with the British setting and more. I'm blown away. No tubes to worry about either. Just gotta see how it takes pedals but since it's a fender I'm assuming very well. The technology is here to lose your tubes honestly. Tubes are great but for most people who fiddle around in their bedrooms this is an easy choice. Musicians usually purchase way outside of their needs...
      .not I.

    Wonder if it can get a moderately cranked BFSR tone. I am looking forward to testing my strat neck on the BF setting with the Gain dimed higher to get to that tube saturation sweet spot. Not so high its muddy, but very crunchy when you dig in. Hard to find a clip for just that tone strat neck on the champ demos. Think big fat ringing open Es. Metal/Dist sounded pretty good. I expect to have 3 fav tones. Tweed, BF (dimed with gain and reverb/delay) and 3rd Metal. Epi P90s coming.

    Does that tap light always blink, regardless what you're doing or what settings? I think that would annoy me to no end. Great value, I own several champs of different eras - tweeds, blackface (they're tube amps though, not SS), they're really all most people ever need unless you're playing with a drummer and they record really well, you can get a huge tone with them close mic'd.

      @furiouspotato2286 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It only blinks if you put in a custom delay. By pressing it you can set how long after you want the delay. So if you press it and then again 1 second later you get a 1 sec delay. In this case it would blink showing you how long your delay is.

    Jimmy Lin...Your tone and articulation are so excellent. And to think, I just hoped for a little guidance on setting tones on the Champion 20 that is on its way to my door. I have subscribed and also save your video so I can play along when my new Fender amp arrives. I will be doing my best to get a sound as cool as you get! As I work my way there, I will be inspired through starts and stops, because your excellent video assures me this little amp can deliver--if the playing is right.

    Thanks for posting this, have you tried these settings with a single coil strat? I find myself mostly on the tweed settings with a fair amount of gain. It gives me the Larry Carlton sound with clean while playing softly an a moderate break-up while playing hard.

    Hi Jimmy Lin,
    i love the way you play - so much feeling for the blues! You understand that amp, and you have a great way of showing what's in it.
    I'd like to add, that the amp surprised also me a lot. Some amp talk? One thing - I didn't really trust the speaker, so i replaced it with a pretty good Greenback clone. Fine, but not much of a difference. So the original speaker came back in to stay. I think it IS a pretty good Greenback clone (as are the speakers in my old Fender Frontman 212R).
    The other - all the vintage amps, from the Bassmann (1, red) to the JTM 45 (3, green) the tone controls work before the preamp, not at the end. With many vintage amps this often sounds horrible (so Marshall abandoned this principle with the JCM 800), but finding the sweet spot(s) of the vintage amp was a crucial thing an electric guitarrist had to learn.
    When it comes to the AC 30 (3, red) - it may come across amazingly harsh, but as long as you keep the two tone controls between 0 and 4 you're in for some fine Beatles sounds. You want it more harsh? Fine, compare the first Rolling Stones recordings. You want Rory Gallagher or Brian May - remember these guys used special boosters for their AC-sounds, which you might just as well do here ... (i guess you know all that, but some of the readers don't - and why should they ruin their budgets chasing the magic tone dragon? In 2020? And well, at the end of the British section (3, red) you have the JCM 800 - and the tone volume section at the end of the preamp - brillant! So much for authenticity.
    And as for the headphone out - I think there they even model the respective speakers of the amps (i may be wrong, but that's my impression). And hell, yeah, I too like that amp. Being a grampa rock'n roller I initially bought this amp for weight relief, no kiddin'.
    My regards, keep on playing ...

      Hi
      Is this amp good choice for bedroom use?
      Or is too loud?
      Some amps have the choice of 10w 5w or 2w
      Thanks

    • @fixfoxilupo1
      @fixfoxilupo1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dimitrisaivaliotis5616
      Hi Dimitris,
      I think this must be a pretty good bedroom amp. Mine actually is a Champion 40 with a 12 inch speaker, and the volume pots are good enough to be set to really low volumes (which is a bit more difficult with my Vox mini3 g2, quite a good bedroom amp, too).
      By the way, the sound over the headphone out is not bad at all. The difference is: Over the speaker it's the speaker, over the headroom out even the speakers are emulated. To be even more low (my neighbors' bedroom is under my living room) I connected the headroom out to a bluetooth speaker (over a cable, of course) - now you can set it as low as a mouse's whisper.
      Best regards

      Ok I got it. Good idea 👍

      @fixfoxilupo1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dimitrisaivaliotis5616
      Hi Dimitris,
      an ordinary cable - they all are in stereo - would do. If it's ONE blue tooth (or any active) speaker it's mono, which is perfect.
      I don't know if there are stereo effects on the champion, maybe ping-pong delay. I use some reverb, which doesn't sound stereo in the headphones.
      Enjoy!
      kind regards
