I love these. I live in Western Australia & used to live on a rural property where these spiders were everywhere including inside our house. At night they used to sit above the back door near the light ( waiting to catch a moth or two I suspect). I always reminded the kids not to slam the door otherwise you might wear a huntsman! They are fast & the only way I could catch them was to throw a towel over them then put them outside.
I'm sorry and with all due respect but do you mean you lived with those? As in, intentionally let them be inside your house, where you had your children? You raised your children with those monsters? Were they often big or did you mean like smaller ones?
Very nice clip but whilst this spider is Holconia immanis, the common name is Giant banded huntsman. The Grey huntsman is Isopeda vasta, smaller, shorter legs and different markings.
Thank you for your comment Michael. I guess so long as the proper name is correct, seeing common names can vary all over the place. All the sources I've seen call it the Grey Huntsman, or Sydney Huntsman, but I'm sure you're right with respect to other sources or places.
@@insequentways56 Interesting, I've never heard it called a Sydney Huntsman and I've lived there all my life. And whilst Isopeda vasta is a semi-regular household intruder I've only met Holconia immanis once, in a laundry in Richmond NSW.
@@michaelmclachlan1650 I post my images to iNaturalist and my information was from there (admittedly originally from Wikipedia): inaturalist.ala.org.au/taxa/132843-Holconia-immanis
I love spiders and would never hurt one, I’ve even kept them as pets, but god I’m still terrified of huntsmans and that thing, (while very cool) is fucking freaky!
@@michaelmclachlan1650 yes I’m very familiar with all types of huntsman, we just don’t get those types here in Victoria. Mostly just the Victorian huntsman isopeda victorialis, which is a smaller, more uniformly gray variant if the banded huntsman, and we also get the orange badge huntsman and social huntsman.
Holconia immanis, the common name is actually Giant banded huntsman. Spiders have gripping pads on their feet and this one is cleaning them so it can climb properly.
Dude, I've never been more glad to be a Canadian.
She’s a beauty ❤️

I didn't know huntsman spiders like to nibble their own toes.
If I were a huntsman spider, I'd dip mine in honey. :)

Too bad there're humans out there that don't come near the level of cleanliness of this animal.
