I taught school for 33 years. You are gifted with know how skills, but I think that these videos truly show your gift as a teacher. I am sure your kids like learning from you. This is a great idea!
This series needs to be more than just 2-3 weeks. We could learn SOOOOOOO much from you! Please consider continuing this and teach us to do whatever projects you happen to be working on that day.😊 We can all flip houses together.
Get his subscribers over 50K and he may.
That’s a lot of work. He could do one “teaching” video a week after he reached 50k subscribers. 😀
Come on, one a month we'd all be glued regardless 😂
My mom always put pins in her mouth like that while sewing. To this day, I still do it. Thanks for the Mom Memory. ☺️
My mom, too! One time she put push pins in her mouth while attaching Christmas ribbon to a post, and she thought she swallowed one...so my dad took her to the ER. She was fine...she didn’t swallow anything! 🤦🏻♀️
I used to do that too until I accidentally swallowed one.
Thank you so much for creating this series Tom! We learn more quickly when we are shown how to do a task!! Don't tell Dawn, but I love you!! (Don't worry Dawn, I'm old enough to be your mother!! I just appreciate you two so much!) :D
Questions for this video: what does “grounding” mean for electrical work?
What is the best way to balance ceiling fan blades (our are off balance somehow and make noise if we put it on speed 2 or higher). I think there are weights involved?
Questions in general:
How to change drill bits/reverse direction, use drill confidently
How to install a missing tile on bathroom wall
Compliments:
Love the intro, love the screws in the mouth tip, appreciate the close-up shots, and love the series in general.
From my perspective, don’t worry too much about having to set down the camera sometimes. It’s a casual tutorial and I’d rather you produce content in a real-life way, rather than produce less content because you feel like you have to set up a whole other camera/ladder/lighting, etc. Whatever you want to do, of course but only go through that extra effort if it’s ultimately easier for you-not necessary for me as a viewer.
Thank you Tom for taking the time to teach us these basic DIY things. I know it takes 2, 3, 4 times longer to film and edit. Not to mention moving the camera around.
GOD bless him for taking the time to do this for us!!!
I’m so happy u r doing this series…i told my son-in-law about ur channel
I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE YOUR VIDEO COME UP….WAS THE FIRST ON!!!!!
love your honest introduction. You have experience, but you only hold a drivers license. too funny. thanks for the video.
I love how Dawn shows us how to get rid of stuff and you show us how to shock the poo out of our husbands with upgrades they (we🥴) put on their “to do” list 😅.
Seriously though we’ve been putting off the kitchen light/fan since we had the ceiling redone!
I need a tall enough ladder now 🧐
Tom, I love this series! So much great info! Thank you for taking the time to do this for us! ❤🙏Jane in SC
I have a ceiling fan and light that I bought 15 years ago to replace a really old outdated one. I got frightened about doing it, although I thought I should be able to do it. Now I am confident I can!😊
Ok, you got me beat. My "new" fixtures waiting to be installed are about 4 years old. I hope I still like them after all this time.
Next worry, will my popcorn ceiling texture show a void, a gap with the new fixtures?
Enjoy your teaching method, fortunate to have a husband who knows how to do these things. Happy to see you are up to 40.6k subscribers 🎉🎉
Tom, I like these videos. I love your disclaimer at the beginning of the video. 😅 The jury is still out on if you should even have a drivers license. 🤣 What if you needed to change a florescent light out to another type of light. Would it be the same as matching up all the wires? Keep these videos coming. 😊
Haha you had the HEAVY motor hanging by that one wire. I slip one side of motor bracket into ceiling bracket and let it hang by that OR have an extra pair of hands to hold motor til wires are all connected and motor is secured on ceiling bracket. Whatever works - it’s all good. 👍
Super excited that I can now install my ceiling fan with confidence! It has been literally years, if not more than a decade, that I have had a ceiling fan in a box, waiting to be installed. I was told I needed a bracket installed inside the ceiling and now I can see that the bracket can be installed on the outside. 🤦♀️
I hope I have that right. 😊
Wow it has been a really long time since I replaced a ceiling fan. They have come a long way with how to do it. But then you also made it look easy. Thanks for making us feel like we can do this too
Thank you for taking your valuable time to patiently teach us how to do these things, Tom !
Woohoo!!! Let’s go!
NO WAY! I haven't even WATCHED this video yet and you read my mind!!! We are literally getting a ceiling fan for one of our rooms this weekend! And now here's my how-to. 👏😄 Tom, you rock!!!
You can do it!!
I love your disclaimer at the beginning, I put painters tape over the light switch so it doesn't get turned on by accident. Thank you for doing this, 😎💖
Thanks for making this look achievable for us not as mechanically inclined. Love your channel. Keep up the good work.
Great video and step-by-step! Ya know...this could end up being a niche for you...just saying. I would watch and try a lot of them! 😊 You have a great personality and you show the little goofs too! 😂
Awesome, I love this fix repair, replace series.
Tom, you are so sweet to teach us how to do all of these things. This is valuable information
.I live in the UK so the demonstrations are of no practical use as the wiring is different. Doesn't stop me loving watching you doing these things. Keep up the good work.
Awesome job! You are so patient. I could do that! I also love your disclaimer at the beginning 😊
I love the intro with your alter ego. 😂
I’m a home economist, when in college, we were told if we put pins in our mouth, it was an automatic F! Just sayin’….. moving on, my dad was a commercial decorator, he would take a box of brads, dump some in his mouth and keep on working with his hammer that was magnetic on one side….. So as far as the screws in your mouth are concerned, just don’t swallow them! :)…..
great video. When I had a house, I hired a handyman to replace a ceiling fan, it never worked right. The light switch never controlled anything anymore. I would have to walk into the dark room, grope for the hanging chain to turn the light or fan on. Kudos to you, even though I don’t still have that house, I think I could have done a better job! …..at least after watching this video. I can’t wait for what you do tomorrow.
I love the beginning of these videos
I'm loving Tom's How To Series!
Love the warning at the start!! Another great lesson. 😊
Looking forward to your daily "Tips from Tom" videos. I particularity enjoy your little "words of wisdom" ie: screws in mouth, don't tighten all the way. 😊
The screws in the mouth... :) :)
Thank you !😁
I love this series Tom ! Thank you for doing this !
Noooo, I miss the garage door hitting the light. Dawn's laugh was great!
You are crushing it with these how to videos!
Thank you Tom for sharing your skills and humor! I'm very lucky to be married to a contractor. I love watching these videos!
You made that look so easy. Tomorrow I have two fans to install. We just had an electrician come and add electric boxes to two of our bedrooms so we could add fans. What perfect timing for your video. Thanks Tom.
Thank you! Rusty is like a handy older brother coming over to help with your home project.
You make this look so easy! Congrats on getting to 40K subscribers!
Sweet!
I was going to have to wait for my husband (he hates doing honey do projects) or son to help me install a chandelier. Now I can do it myself! Thank you Tom
Thanks, Tom! You are so gifted. It is always a blessing to see families working together. May the LORD bless the work of your hands.
Tom, thank you for doing these videos.... great information.
Thank you for this one . . .ceiling fans intimidated me before.
I must be a pro and didn’t know it. I also put screws and nails in my mouth. I figured it out when I put them on the top of the ladder and they rolled off. 😊 Great job on the ceiling fan!
I installed a fan years ago and love this refresher. Thanks Tom!
So happy to see you every day!!
Too late! I recently paid a handyman to install a ceiling fan in a bedroom. 😕 BUT, now I’ll know how to do it. We could use another ceiling fan in this house. 😊 Can you give the name/model of this particular ceiling fan please? Thanks for the videos.
QUESTION, Tom. How do you level an already installed fan, when they get off balance andbstart wobbling??? I love this series. Thank you
Looks so easy when you do it! Great instructions! Thank you Tom!
Thank you, Tom. I love it when you put the screws in your mouth. This is truly how we do it too😊
You make it looks so easy👍
Handy Tips from Tom! I’m enjoying this series, I’m expecting weekly installments after your birthday 🎉
Thanks, Tom! Well appreciated 😊
Many years ago before you tube I watched 2 physicians try to install a ceiling fan together. When they turned it on it started smoking and we had to call a professional and buy another ceiling fan . Too bad they did not have you as a teacher!
Let’s get Tom to 50K!!!!
When you open TH-cam and have to choose between Dawn and Tom 🥴 hahaha!!! I'm not a "liker" of videos but I have committed to liking every one of your videos to help you reach your goal by your birthday! 🎉
Thank you, Tom! I'm LOVING these videos!!!!
Hey Tom. Great series! Hey, in one of Dawn’s videos you unclogged a drain (I think it was the kitchen sink). I’ve been trying to find it so we can use that method to unclog our tub drain. Do you remember that? If yes, can you please demonstrate or tell that method? TIA
great series
Tom, you’re doing a great job. So far I’ve known how to do these 2 projects but enjoy watching you explain them. 😊
This is one of my questions. Lol. I have shaped out fixtures before but never fan. Thanks!
Oh my gosh! I've had 2 ceiling fixtures waiting to be installed since before Covid hit! You mean I can do this?
My house was built in 1950.
When he was alive, I had my dad replace all my outlets with modern ones...except for one in the back bedroom (now my office) and he said he had to add a pigtail(?) wire. The old outlets were from before polarized plugs.
My brother installed a fixture for me many years ago and said it was ok to just leave the switch turned off. No basement trips.
Tom, I hope you make a folder for these quick repairs. I can see I'll be referencing them over and over.
Another good channel to watch is "Stud Pack." A father/son/son-in-law team is building a house from scratch. Garage first with apt. on top. In the Texas heat.
Cool topic!! My hubby and I installed a fan once but now need to do another. Thanks for the instruction today and item enjoying your daily how to series.
Thank you, Tom!!!! You are a fantastic teacher!!!!! Loving these videos!!!
You are SO awesome Tom! Thank you for doing these!!
I love your 'how to' instructions. Very simple though had I not seen the video I might not have done some of the things you mentioned (like screws in the mouth, haha). I'm shorter than Dawn and noticed you were looking straight into the working area, so having a ladder tall enough (but not too tall) is a good idea as well. Thanks again.
Teaching us something that you also need to get done👍
Awesome! Just bought the outlet tester you showed yesterday. Thanks.
Ive been wanting to replace the old fan in my room for years. This gives me the confidence to do it. Thank you Tom! 🎉
These are great. I'm gonna' love this little series. It will be great to reference for future needs. Thanks Tom!
Tom, I'm a lady who pretty much knew how to do this, but I still appreciated watching you & all of your easy to follow instructions. I always worked with a screwdriver with changeable tips and manually powered through with determination. If I had to do it over, I would invest in a power tool up front... and trade in some of the "power through determination" for some speed.😄
Well this would have come in handy a month ago when I changed out ours! Lol! It hasn’t fallen on us (above our bed) so it’s all good. 😊
As a longterm renter and so very much appreciate seeing that you changed out that light to a ceiling fan. Small things like this show how much you’ll care for your renters.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻you’re an amazing teacher! Thank you for slowing down the process so much…I need to see ALL the steps and you make no assumptions about how much your audience does or doesn’t know. Fantastic! I feel I could go install a ceiling fan now!
Fantastic. Thank you so much
You do make it look easy! I wonder if my husband would trust me to do these projects. 😉 He hates any plumbing, so I hope you'll help me learn how to do some simple fish plumbing repairs/installs.
Thanks for the great video. Can't wait for the next in the series.
Bravo!! Series is great
Awesome video series! You're helping more people than you know
There's 35 pieces of ceiling fan sitting on my dresser waiting for you to post this!!!😂😂😂🎉🎉❤❤
Great job, thanks Tom! Been watching your videos from the beginning. Cheers from Germany!
Don't know if I would try a ceiling fan by myself, some motors are too heavy for me. Changing the light makes me more confident. Keep up the great work! 😊❤
This is perfect timing! I need to replace a ceiling fan. Thanks, Tom!
Thanks, Tom!
I like that you shortened the intro. 😀
Thanks for teaching us how yo do stuff. So helpful!
Such a great video. Thanks again for sharing one of your many talents.
I will never do this, and yet I'm watching! Yet I might go clean my ceiling light fixtures, some bulbs are out!
I can do it! Thanks sooo much love you and Dawn so much.
I apologize for so many posts on yesterday's video.
I just wanted to support you and give good feedback.
I only shared the glass protector to help you and others.
I will show restrait and have few comments.
I am sorry.
Today's video is very helpful, thank you.
The disclaimer! 🤣🤣
Great vid! Keep going!!
You made it look so simple. Ha. 4 screws in your mouth while speaking had me a little nervous! Thank you for this video!
Now want to go out to replace the 20+ year old Hampton Bay fans that are giving up the ghost - they squeak and I do not know if I can fix that or if it actually time for new fans. Awesome, Tom!
Tom, thanks for mentioning not having a ground - for nine years this has been a mystery, & none of
YT addresses it, nor did my electrical inspector. And remember, these are newbies, I don’t think anyone’s gonna wanna grab a drill on their first electrical project, & an extra camera view would be helpful.
Bolts in your mouth made me laugh. Thank you for sharing your skills!
I like that hat! Is it new? Newer? Newish?
Tom, you are really talented. This series are so interested.
Another great tutorial video! My dad and I installed 2 ceiling fans when I moved into my current house. Quick question - if this ceiling has never had a ceiling fan before- do you have to be concerned about the added weight to the ceiling? Seems to me that my ceiling fan instruction book said to verify ceiling fan mount before installing. Perhaps that’s not a concern with newer ceiling fans. Thoughts?
