This was nostalgic for me, I went to these parts of the USA when I was younger. As a european it brought back loads of memories, you driving past Sequoia national park and the Meteor crate and all the roads over there. The nature is incredible in the USA and nothing like where I live in Europe. If you're a european planning to go to the USA. I definitely recommend you don't just go there for Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The national parks is where the really beauty was at for me.

I wish more foreigners understood this. They come here, stay in the cities the whole time, see how awful they are, then go home and tell everyone they know that the U.S. is a terrible place. You gotta get out of the cities and into the rural areas. See the small towns, explore the wilds. That's where the real America lives.

I’m sure there are plenty of nice areas in Albuquerque, but I didn’t see them any of the times I’ve been .... I got propositioned by a hooker at 5 pm.... at a red light I looked over and like a scene out of a movie... a guy passed out or dead with literally face down in the gutter with one arm on the sidewalk and the other out into the shoulder..... the sun was still up and it was minutes after the hooker - all I wanted was an oil change at pep boys before they closed at 6 - I realized why they wanted to get out of the area before dark. I’ve had 5 bad ass Harley’s. All these Harley stores are most likely adding aftermarket performance parts on customers bikes. It’s the same thing as any other brand of bikes. Harley responds huge to aftermarket engine parts. And most guys who know anything upgrade their Harleys to Ohlins suspension, breaks, engine performance and now you have a complete different better faster bike. Sure, you can put marbles on your commuter and get 10K miles or more, hell, go darkside and get 50!. But that's not realistic for ADV bikes doing ACTUAL ADV things. 100 miles of proper off-road/fire-road mix is equal to at least 250 highway miles (emphasis on at least).

I'll wager paychecks NO demo GS has ever had it's clutch shit the bed at 1200 miles........Further anecdotal info? The first 2 PAs that have been brought on ADV tours with a group I ride with have 1) Had a small electrical fire and 2) died on a trail due to a bad switch. Neither of them had more than 2000 miles ridden entirely by their owners. Harley apologists will eternally make excuses and rationalizations. There are just SOOOOOOOO many better options, especially in the ADV world.

Pan America seems like a nice ADV bike for a new effort, but I could buy two of my V-Stroms for what it costs, and like the GS, yes, it can do more, but it can't do twice as much, so I'd rather have my 'Strom and another bike for the same money.

Vstrom 650 msrp 10500. Vstrom 1000 13k msrp. (And not recently updated with inflation numbers) Pan America: 17.3k msrp difference of about 4k if your talking big suzuki. And the Pan am is going after the r1250 market not the suzuki market. Can't really blame you for your choice, given my budget and riding style I'd probably go with the 650 vstrom myself.

I live in Dallas Tx. and I recently did a trip to St.Louis and back over a 3 day weekend (1500 miles) Through 105+ heat, rain, muddy dirt roads(side trip to friend's ranch) etc.... Other than wearing the wrong undergarments, the trip turned out awesome. Like the ride modes, the power, lights and comfort. Even with the stock seat. I was not sore or overly fatigued. Though I did have to stop because of heat exhaustion mostly. On the way back I did 11 hours in one shot.
I like riding long distance on this more than I did my Road Glide or even my Kawasaki Concours 14(Has almost 70K on it). Great experience!!! I am going to put a lot of miles on this bike!! Thanks for the video!!!

The Anakee wild isn't a bad tire by any means, it's just a bad tire choice for this bike ... unless you're spending a LOT of time in the dirt with it. The PA would be better suited with a good 90/10 or 80/20 tire for most riders, 50/50 tires are for people who take their ADV bikes on singletrack and jeep trails, not 99% pavement with the occasional dirt road.

Road my 2002 VRSCA from Spring Branch to Los Angeles labor day weekend a few years ago right after the hurricane caused the refinery to close in Houston. Took three days , one just to get out of Texas stopping every 50 miles to fill up just in case the next station didn't have fuel. I took 10 all the way. Between the desert heat, asphalt radiating heat and the exhaust pipe baking my leg all day, when I stopped for the night I dumped the sweat out of my helmet, peeled off my boots and fell into the pool. I stayed in California for the next two years flying home to Texas every other weekend. The weekend I stayed it was beautiful rides in the mountains and yes, filtering is fantastic.

Moving on to some videos where I hope you actually have some fun. I wonder what you would be like in the actual back country in a tent with a couple buddies after 4-5 days. PS I also drove that part of Texas from New Mexico only I headed down to El Paso and the south route skirting the Rio Grande was very cool.

They still look like they have another 1-2 thousand miles on them, but I am switching them out this week with my 15,000 mile service. They are a 50/50 tire and probably the best tire I have ever used. They perform well both on the highway and dirt/gravel roads. I don't do much motocross on my Pan America, so I can't really speak to that.

  • @donaldpruett852

The reason that your rear tire is wearing out is that it is clawing for traction on the asphalt and it is a knobby. The asphalt is like a carburandum grinding wheel against the rubber . Knobbies don't have but a couple of blocks of rubber touching the asphalt at a time which wears them out much sooner. The front wheel has very little to do except for go along for the ride. It's the same principal as your front breaks wear out much faster than your rear ones do. Knobbies have no place on highway asphalt for safety reasons. I'm an old dirt bike rider as well as a street rider and have experienced what we just spoke of. Everything is a compromise. You accept one thing and forsake the other. Some of my 70's & 80's enduro bikes came with street and road combo tires. The didn't excel for either, just mediocuer for both.
