Thanks for the excellent video. I bumped into a rock, and the cheap plastic bumper was damaged. Ironically, I did the same thing in my 94 Tacoma, and the rock chipped. Your instructions were excellent and helped a lot to repair. Pretty easy except the pad was a little harder getting the clips to loosen, but with persitance they came loose. In the end, every thing fit back in place. Thanks for the help. Oh, by the way, I moved the rock.

Thank you for this. A nice lady bumped my 2018 Taco in a parking lot. I figured it would be bad karma to pursue an insurance claim and hoped I could fix it myself. With your help I did! I decided to forego the metal clip entirely and it seems fine for others interested. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting the video, it was exactly what I needed to know. You should add "back up sensor replacement" to the title. Your video does not come up on a search for Tacoma back up sensor, but it is exactly what everyone that has to replace one needs to know.

Best tutorial out there for the end cap replacement. Perfecto mundo. Kind of curious to see how long it really took you to get the clip in there. @@infosponge I figured as much. Since i started watching You Tube for tutorials I realized that nearly everyone deletes the actual time it takes to do the job if they had difficulty because they don’t want the video to be too long. I’d rather they show it in it’s entirety so we can decide if we really want to take the project on ourselves. Thanks for the reply.

Hi thank you for the video, I have a 20/22 not sure if that's gen 3 or not. But what I was wondering is the metal clip you had to get on behind the bumper and slide it in how did you get your hand behind their there was not even enough room to get my finger behind it. I have not attempted changing the cover yet but just had that big question? Thank you ahead of time

    • @infosponge

The spacing on each bumper is different. You could loosen the bolts that attach the bumper to the frame. Or maybe recruit a small child.

The only thing I can see to add is the backup sensor does not need to be taken apart into the two pieces as it can come out as one piece after disconnecting the cable. Mine did.

Hoping to fix my BSM error after watching this video. It exposes the sensor. Not sure what's wrong but I hit it off roading the other day and now its not working. I think the plastic pieces that the bumper cover connects to is snapped and broken, so it might need more than just the cover. Surprised you replaced it with just a couple scratches on the bottom side. But I understand wanting things perfect. and that is why I am going to try and fix mine too. Not a fan of the dash lights from the disconnect.

Thanks for the video sir. Backed into my daughters car and now looking to replace. Only question is - the colors match okay? I realize it isn’t necessarily butting right up against something else white from the factory. But, I thought I would ask before tapping the buy button.

As a follow up - just got done replacing mine with a reproduction part off of eBay.
      Things of note:
1 - the reproduction part is thicker and the backing sensor holder didn’t want to stay in place. Dremeled a little off around the hole and it fit okay (not perfect)
2 - that metal clip is a major PIA. I ended up leaving it off. Doesn’t seem to affect the cover from staying tight to the black surround.

I have to remove my cap to do a minor dent repair with a hot air gun. I want to heat it from inside the cap instead of outside so I don’t worry about the paint wrinkling. This still the best way to take the cap off damage free?

You can give it a shot. Not sure how bad the dent would affect the process. It might be easier to remove the whole bumper first for better access. Here is that process: th-cam.com/video/ayx7P144-B4/w-d-xo.html

I dented my left rear bumper cover, and I'm arguing with the dealership currently. I just bought 2022 tacoma an they are telling vehicle needs to go to body shop. My argument is you should be able to get a replacement bumper cover from factory an color match it. They say no it needs to go to a body shop. This is not a simple dent it's pretty messed up. I feel like what I'm suggesting is exactly what body shop is going to do.
