I really enjoyed watching this video, and I might add in my 62 years of life the only woman I know that changes her own oil in my niece. So nice to see a lady changing oil.
I do the exact same oil change with the same tools, the only difference is, my method is a little bit cleaner because I use a Fumoto valve in place of the oil drain plug…super easy, Don’t even need gloves
Fumoto F103s for about $30 (Amazon) as of this posting....been using it on my '17 for years now and have installed one on many other motors I own since. I remove my skid plate because the access isn't adequate and inevitably used oil is going to pool on top of it and will drip leaving you wondering if you have a leak. If you remove your skid plate be very careful not to strip these bolts as it's easy to do with power tools....something the dealership does regularly and part of the reason I do my own service, not to mention half the cost. Good video!
I got the motivX kit a few months ago and finally did my first oil change the other day. A bit If a pita because the oem plastic housing was on super tight, had to drop the rci front skid plate to get a large crescent onto the nut and use a dead blow hammer. If I didn’t have this filter wrench I probably wouldn’t have gotten the filter off! The drain tool worked great, trimmed the hose so it just went into the pan and the funnel was ideal to refill the oil! I put on a Toyota metal filter housing and a fumoto valve so hopefully the next change is a lot easier!
I seriously love all of your videos. You put everything together so well, and I appreciate everything you’ve taught me. From day 1 being a Tacoma owner I’ve subscribed. Just really wanted to show you some appreciation and thanks for all you do!
for anyone prepping to do this, I'd suggest having a larger 1/2" breaker bar and a 24 mm socket for the oil filter housing because those things can be over torqued by the dealership, at least mine was. this was the solution I'd found on tacoma world, if anyone runs into a similar thing
Chole another great tutorial. We installed instead of the drain pan bolt, there is a drain pan drain valve. Just flip the valve and drains quick. I like that filter drain! Great job again
I recommend a fumoto oil change valve to make it even easier. I have used them on my last 5 vehicles and can’t praise them enough. Thanks for the content!
The only thing you miss is a FUMOTO valve. It will make the cleaniest oil change. Made in japan, I have that on all cars since at least 10 years ago. No more oil pan plug to remove, no mess in a drip pan. Connect the hose to the valve, put the end of the hose in an empty gallon. Open the valve to drain directly in the empty gallon. Then proceed with the other motiveX tools to finish the job. I have that motiveX hose kit and would notgo without it !
Chloe, you r #1 taco girl. Thanks for video, highly recommend using a creeper whenever you can. You’re young & agile but l find it much easier at my age to get around under the vehicle.
My favorite oil is the Royal Purple Brand SAE Multigrade synthetic oil. Sometimes I don't even know if my truck is running. Engine so quite and no vibrations. Use it on my 2020 Tacoma
Great video Chloe. Doing an oil change on my 2nd gen tomorrow with 280,000 miles and still running great. I change the oil every 3000 miles now because, well it can’t hurt. I went with the cardboard Havoline 6 quart 5w-30 high mileage. My only note on this video that I hope you find helpful is when you are using a torque wrench always apply force with your hand on the handle for an accurate torque value. The line on the handle of most torque wrenches is to indicate where to apply the force. Don’t mean to knit pick ! Really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work ✊🏽
I'm not sure if that's true. Physically the same torque is applied, just different amounts of work is required depending on how far your hand is away from the axis.
@@novanuke1356 it’s a fact. Torque wrenches are calibrated to work accurately by applying force from the handle only. Any good torque wrench will explain this in the literature that’s comes in the box.
@@pauliemars He has a point. The torque value will still be the same when you click off, only thing that changes is the amount of force you had to use to get it there.
Nice tutorial. I would recommend that before you start the oil change pop the hood (if the hood for some reason didn’t open you’re stuck) and loosen the filler cap (so as to drain the oil faster). Pretty slick tool. Autozone use to have a large sheet metal pan made by Blitz. I use that instead of card board. Just wipe it down from any oil splatter.
This helps a lot!! Thank you. I just recently bought a 21’ Tacoma and I do all my oil changes on the vehicles I’ve had. I traded my Honda Civic 18’ with 81k miles for a Tacoma and just recently got the OTT tune!!
Before installing your oil filter housing you should fill it up with oil a bit - that oil is in there for a reason, and you can but about 1/3 of a quart in before screwing it in and your engine is not effectively dry firing. I have the Motivx filter removal tool and can attest it is great, don't have the hose, but I don't mind a little dirty.
Nothing at all wrong with your video, it's well shot and you're a good narrator, so thankyou, as for the products though, I don't really see the point of the funnel when any funnel will work, and also the drain tube gimmick because new filters typically come with the push in plastic piece to drain and it's really not that messy. The filter housing wrench does seem like a good tool.
I have the exact motovix kit, been using them for a couple years now to change oil in my 2017 taco TRD. Highly recommend using them for a mess free oil change.
I'm surprised you don't use that faucet type drain plug that lots of ppl have and talk about in the tacoma forums. Still your content is very informative 👌 keep up the awesome videos
Thank u so much for the information. Everyone is top notch. I use a couple of handfuls of sawdust or grass clippings to clean the pan. These items compost up very quick with no mess
There is a company called Fumoto. It replaces your drain plug. Has an open and close valve. I personally haven’t tried it out yet. But I’m going to pick one up before my next oil change. Suppose to be even easier. Should check it out
May I recommend a magnetic drain plug? I use a "Gold plug". It always catches gunk the filter misses. I also recommend a metal oil filter housing available on line or most auto parts stores. The plastic factory one makes me nervous.
I’m making this purchase thanks to you Miss Chloe. You should check out the ValvoMax oil change system to. I love mine, the only sticky part is changing the oil filter, but with this system I’ll be done even faster. Thanks
Love the video. Thank you. Also, I was told they only need to be charged every 20,000 with the new synthetic oil. Not every 5,000. That's when the tires need rotated.
20k miles is kind of pushing it even with extended life synthetic oil and all easy, dust minimal, all highway use in mild weather. With the driving she is doing, off-road in dusty conditions, 5k is probably a good interval.
Toyota says 10 k. But on the extreme conditions its 5k. Most people drive the "extreme" conditions. Oil is cheap. Engine replacements are not. Change oil and rotate tires every 5 k
I just changed mine. Or attempted to change. Bear in mind, I have always changed my own oil in all my vehicles. However, my 2021 Off Road has kicked my rear. Granted the dealership changed the first oil change. When I changed my own, the plastic cover was so tight, the fins on the sides broke off. So I had to add new oil and take a to dealership to replace cap. I ended up purchasing a new aluminum cap because I hate plastic and don’t want this happening again.
Motivx are excellent. They are an exact fit. I use the funnel on all 3 of our Toyotas (1.8l and 2.5l). I do have 3 filter wrenches but well worth the expense if you do your own changes. An exchange step I do is siphon the oil from the dip stick tube. So very little drains from under the car.
Hi Chloe. Thanks for this video. I bought the Motivx Oil Wrench Tool on your recommendation. I don't know if my situation is unique, but the tool completely stripped out before the filter housing started to turn. (It stripped where my ratchet attached.) Yes, the filter was on tight. But would have expected the Motivx to work better than a standard wrench. Maybe I just got a bad one. Also, the drain tool did create much less of a mess than the little plastic piece that comes with the filter. As someone else called out, you can just attach a hose to the plastic piece that's free.
Hi Chloe... I was surprised that you didn't mention the torque specs for the oil filter cap and for the drainbolt on the oil filter cap! Oil filter cap = 18 ft.lbs. Oil filter cap drainbolt = 10 ft.lbs. We have a RAV4 instead of a Tacoma but I subscribed any ole how.
