Our community just went through a major fire, in Ruidoso, NM, over the last two weeks. Be prepared for the unexpected. The fire spread so fast that it closed off the road to the south, then the road to the north, no road to the west all mountains with no roads. The whole town of 7k had to travel out of town, 70 miles, to Roswell on one mountain road. It was a line of cars going by for hours. The fire gave no one time to gather possessions or get gas. Now the rains are creating floods. We did not think disaster could happen in our little town. But it did and it can happen anywhere. Have a plan, make a bugout bag, and keep the tank full. Peace and Love!

As much as I hate to say it, but I’m afraid of what is coming. I’m prepared, don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of self protection, food, water, first aid stuff, medicine and things I will need, but I’m alone after the death of my husband. Take it to the Lord in prayer, every day. He is there for us.
The way that helps me, and gives me peace, is what Scripture told me. This world is not my Home, and when I die, that’s not the end. It’s just the beginning of a Life in Heaven, with God of the Holy Bible, and never will I be separated from Him. I have always wondered how Majestic the Angels will sound when they sing.

It must be extremely difficult to be coping with the death of your husband at the same time that the whole world is in turmoil. I was widowed about 20 years ago, so I know how hard that is. I felt like I didn't sleep soundly for a couple of years after my husband died. I am glad that you have the stuff to be prepared. I am glad that you are praying. Moving is a huge adjustment in itself and it's easy to "bite off more than you can chew" by relocating to a rural home which may have crops and animals to attend to. As I've gotten older, tending a big garden and a flock of chickens is a lot harder than it used to be. Moving those big sacks of feed takes more strength than I have. I hope that you find the solution that works for you, and that you can release the fear.

I would like to relocate to a place I could have a manageable garden and a handful of chickens. I currently live in the low desert and growing anything is difficult, not impossible but difficult with small yields. The heat is a killer 3-4 months of the year. I'm also widowed and don't live near family nor is it going to be likely I would relocate to be with them. My biggest emergency fear is water if the grid goes down. I'm more aware and prepared than most people I know but being alone is the scariest part for me.

Yesterday I cooked 4 lbs of pasta and dehydrated it overnight. Now I have 14 pints of quick cooking mac & cheese on the shelf. Today I canned 12 pints of meatballs. Every week I try to get something on the shelf, even if it's just an extra jar of honey or a few cans of veg. Surprisingly, it builds up pretty quickly. Prepping on a budget IS possible!

@@joannc147 Greetings, thank you for the kind words. As you might be able to tell, we are survivors of the Rabbit Hole.
Some might say that we have a fascinating story. We cashed out of the Rat Race a long, long time ago… We implemented our own austerity plan and eliminated all debt. We learned skills needed to survive and thrive.
As we continue to age, we are naturally becoming less active. We have learned to co-op with others. We find bargains and purchase 40# of meat at a time and pressure can most of it.
We have nearly two years of animal proteins put up. We also have renewable plant proteins.
In years gone by we had a social media presence and had a great following. We got sucked deep into the Rabbit Hole and lost all focus. We were betrayed by folks we thought we could trust. We stepped away from most social media and crawled out of the Rabbit Hole.
All we could do is just share the love with the community around us. Somewhere along the line, we have become tribal and are digressing into a hunting and gathering type of society.
Enjoy the journey, it’s going to be like an E-Ticket Ride at Disneyland.

When going thru your "test week" everytime you do anything and find out you are missing something or wish you had this or that, WRITE IT DOWN IN YOUR NOTEBOOK. If you can afford it, get a solar oven. I have a couple of different ones and I use them all the time, Spring thru Fall. Today I baked apple/ zucchini bread, yesterday I baked chicken thighs to shred for a couple of dinners. The day before that, I baked a chocolate chip zucchini cake, (guess what I have a lot of? Bingo! Zucchini!) Before that I did ribs. All in the solar oven. I bake potatoes, steam rice, slow cook spaghetti sauce, etc.... As far as I'm concerned, solar cookers are worth their weight in gold.
Btw, today we're at 111 degrees, in the shade, at 5 p.m. The last few days have all been triple digits and we're expected to have that for the next week or more. Welcome to July in No. California!

The only thing your debit card should be used for is withdrawing cash from an ATM. I have a few cards, but only one ever gets used for online “shopping”. The others are used for gas, groceries, utility bills. And of course, it goes without saying, that those should always be paid off every month - try not to carry a balance. Bottom line - if you can’t pay off your charges at the end of the month, you couldn’t afford that purchase (exception: a true emergency that is $$$$). I like my Capital One card, because it uses “virtual” numbers for online purchases, not the number of the card. I think Chase has something similar as well.

I was so shocked to see people fighting over these items or buying them at astronomical prices on eBay and other places like Amazon on the Internet! When us as preppers were told that we were taking these items off the shelf. I had to laugh and I was pissed at the same time. I already had three years of paper towels, and three years of toilet paper in stock at my house. I didn’t need either one! Did however go to Walmart and pick up six months worth of coffee and six months worth of coffee creamer, and which I stuck half the coffee creamer and maybe a little bit more into my freezers for later use. I also made sure that I was stocked up on a couple more months of food for my Chihuahuas, but we weren’t out stealing the last packs of paper towels or toilet paper because us has preppers know what the stock for how much of stock and when we need to restock! One thing occurred to me since you brought up home defense. If it were a riotous situation or home invasion, they don’t knock. Windows might get broken or a door busted in. Same type of damage could occur because of storms, roof damage etc. How would you fix that window or door or roof etc.and stores are not available in the moment; maybe have some plywood cut to correct sizes to cover windows or supplies to fix a door jamb or tarp to throw on a hole in the roof.

    • @denisewilson8367
      @denisewilson8367 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

A couple sheets of plexiglass, and a few tubes of caulk. A few sheets of plywood, a pack or two of shingles, the roofing nails, and screws. A few different sized tarps and a roll of 4 Mil to 6 Mil of plastic, staples, a few rolls of duck tape and you can temporarily repair just about anything.

This is a great reminder, I needed that, have been prepping since 2008 but have always thought I was self sufficient ~30 yrs... funny true story, durring the jab years my daughter was at Sams and a man behind her in line said about the toilet paper shortage "this is all the preppers fault" my daughter turned and giggled "no, the preppers already had theirs" the man got quiet...the recent tornado in NWArkansas has changed my perspective, and though my home is underground the trees got my propane tank and the extra propane bottles, something about the air pressure made them empty? My beautiful trees for hiding in the woods are gone and some fell on the canning shed....gotta rethink all of this...thanks for this video!!!

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but one of the ways I've been stocking up on my prescription medicine is, I go in and pick up my prescriptions one week early each month. (My insurance allows that) That way, I get an extra week of medicine each month that I save and store away. It's not a fast way, 1 year of doing this gives you a collection of 12 weeks extra, but every little bit helps. One other thing I did was tell my doctor and pharmacy that I was on a small vacation and accidentally lost all the medicine I had with me. They will usually let you get another month's supply to replace it. Some insurances will cover it, others won't, so you might have to pay out of pocket for an extra month, but at least you might be able to afford to pay for the more affordable prescriptions if not all of them.

Great discussion on staying alert on what is happening around us. Thank you for sharing this list of emergency supplies we need to have on hand at all times. My state of Ohio had had some severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes since the end of February. Several small towns north of Dayton were hit twice by tornadoes within a three week span and still trying to recover from the first disaster. Our local news station reports severe thunderstorms or any severe weather event and displays a list of emergency supplies that every home needs for if the power goes out or if families need to bug out to safety. If every home has the basics of emergency supplies and build a good stock pile, each home would be ahead of the curve when supply chains get disrupted. We all need to be ready for whatever comes our way.

Home canned meats is cheaper than cat food and has no chemicals, shelf stable for a loner time. I would pick up a few cans of mackerel to have a variety for your cats. A regular can of mackerel is equal to 4 cans of cat food. So four meals for your cat. It can be opened and kept for those 4 days in a cool space, no fridge needed for animal use. 24 hours for human use. I have no fridge there are things you can do/use to survive without a fridge.

Cats need some organ meats. They cannot stay healthy on canned fish alone. Consider raising live food. You also must begin conditioning them to these "post-crisis" foods now; start by offering it to them on meal per week.

Bidets. Bypass the need for toilet paper and filling your septic system. We buy the huge bottles of liquid dishsoap to refill our bathroom and kitchen liquid foamng soap dispensers. A tablespoon or two and fill with water. Works great and is more cost effective than the handsoap refill bottles. Long ago, people used to use bed curtins around their beds to keep in their body heat. You can make the frame easily if staying warm is a problem.

Thanks for sharing this!!! I think it's so smart to be prepared as much as possible for anything!!! I had slacked off a bit before the pandemic...but I was raised by parents that were teenagers and young adults during the Great Depression, so I've always had a pretty good stocked pantry for emergencies, but now it's stocked up well again, and zi keep taking stuff from the freezer and canning it up and buying more! I don't have anyone to team up with and my kids and adult grandkids all think I'm bat 💩 CRAZY but we will eat for at least a year or more if there's civil unrest or whatever can and inevitably will happen! Job loss, health issues (that's our biggest one, we're ancient) I just wish I knew how to fix my freeze dryer 🤐😭 I've got a vacuum leak and we are not even a little bit mechanically inclined...it's been down since last year 😢 Have a happy and joyous weekend!!! 🥰🌹

I encourage folks with freeze dryers to learn "seed saver freeze drying" to make your own personal seed vaults for long-term storage. There are specific rules that apply, so learn before you freeze dry your seeds. If you are like us, we seed save to create landrace vegetables and fruit that have been grown from the same parent strain, over several generations, to make the vegetable/fruit offspring of the very highest quality and disease/drought/heat/cold resistance unique to our specific geographic microclimate. So you can begin creating your own personal "Survival seed vaults" unique to your specific locations.

In jars under a sink with cleaning supplies. In pockets in the closet (pants, jackets, robes). Spread it around. If you get desperate you can ransack.

I attended last year, great info to start getting ready. I asked the question what emergency should we be concerned about? She responded, fire, flooding, and severe snow storms. We only have 3 roads available to get out of town. We are surrounded by mountains on all sides. In the winter the 3rd road is a mountain pass not assessable because it’s closed. I chose not to have my head, mind , stuck in the sand. Thank you for your reminders.

Of note on feminine hygiene supplies, even if no one in your house uses them its still a good idea to keep a few packs around, you can vacuum seal the packs for long term storage. They of the sort of thing you don't need until you do. A friend or family visiting, emergency situations, trust me it comes up. I still remember sitting in a bathroom for 4 hours while grandpa had to drive 2 towns over because my first time started on the 4th of July on a Thursday in a small town and grandma didn't need them anymore......
