    I like the stems chopped and sauteed with onion and garlic; was gifted a small Aerogarden and no problem wih bugs. Couple of plants kept me in kale all the time, never had to buy for soups or as a veggie. Mostly cooked it, very seldom ate it raw, was always baby kale because I kept it picked down

    Thank YOU!!! So happy I clicked this video. We live uptown, our yard is not super big, with a couple dogs and decided to get 3 ducks, haha. Ducks LOVE kale, bad part, we live in MN, I pretty much buy out the store when kale comes in. Love plants and decided to start some seeds and grow indoors, they are doing awesome. That said I am super excited to use this method come spring to keep plants higher up(ducks will eat ALL the greens if you let them) and not have to use so much soil. Thank you again! Will be watching more!

    I harvested my baby kale and sautéed it with an onion and 10 cloves of roasted garlic. Awesome 😎

    Yes I do. It makes a great meat replacement when cooking scrambled eggs or other dishes. It can be seasoned just right and the texture offers the consistency of a thinly sliced meat for salads too.
    It is a great smoothie additive plus the nutrients that it possesses are better than supplements.
    A single cup of raw kale (about 67 grams or 2.4 ounces) contains (1):
    Vitamin A: 206% of the DV (from beta-carotene)
    Vitamin K: 684% of the DV
    Vitamin C: 134% of the DV
    Vitamin B6: 9% of the DV
    Manganese: 26% of the DV
    Calcium: 9% of the DV
    Copper: 10% of the DV
    Potassium: 9% of the DV
    Magnesium: 6% of the DV
    It also contains 3% or more of the DV for vitamin B1 (thiamin), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), iron and phosphorus

    I love growing kale, I love cooking it and I love eating it. I do plant it in water, and in dirt. I have kale of all kinds growing all over. I try to have some every day. If I get too much I freeze or dehydrate it for winter because even though I grow it in winter I keep it in my greenhouse for protection. Kale is also very healthy for you. :) :) :) Thanks.

    Baby kale is so much more palatable! My husband said if you cook kale in coconut oil you can slides into the thrash much easier. I hated Kale until I had baby kale. Baby kale is so good!

    I tried kale grown to maturity the traditional gardening way and I hated it. It was tough and kind of bitter. But... after watching this video I'm seriously considering grown some baby kale in hydroponics and giving it another try.

    Michael, I don't know if I've ever mentioned this to you. You may wanna look into sorrell/dock. It has 4 times the iron of kale and all other cultivated greens. I do have kale, mustard, chard, and sorrel all growing in the raised beds. It all overwinters very well. Sorrel will also self seed and become a perennial in most areas.

    • @KeepOnGrowin
      @KeepOnGrowin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the Red Veined Sorrel, is it about the same? I liked it but it was a little tart.

    • @TNBushcrafter
      @TNBushcrafter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeepOnGrowin yeah that is the oxalates. I haven't found that info on red veined. I have a nutrional chart in one of my wild foraging books for greens it specifically lists wood sorrell as higher in iron. The oxalates is actually what makes it higher in iron.

    Thanks for another quality video, Mike. Love your content. When you harvest your leaves, do you cut the stems at the base or leave them and just cut the leaves ?

    • @KeepOnGrowin
      @KeepOnGrowin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! Just the leaves, some of the stem is ok though.

  • @twspma3549
    @twspma3549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Further, it seems to have a very long pot life too. It can stay slow growing in a re-pot for many months as it only grows so fast and far in the shallow downspouts.
    One word to offer is remove all stems completely, even through the leaf parts, when preparing as a meat substitute. Don't get me wrong, I'm a meat eater but this is a pleasant replacement. Give it a try!
    I suggest using butter, slight salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce to attain that meat flavor and low temperature fry it in its own separate pan. You can add your spicier seasonings at that point too if you so desire. It won't disappoint. But don't overcook it.

    • @KeepOnGrowin

    Question: I have thought of using rain gutters on house but worried about so much moisture near house. Do you have any problem on house wall with mold or water damage? How often do you have to add extra nutrients or water in summer?

    • @KeepOnGrowin
      @KeepOnGrowin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leave a space between the growers and the wall for air to circulate. Add nutrients as needed, keep it between 1/2 and 3/4 full.
