    On watching Turner's channel (HeyOldMan1947) , he has this great tip of using a one size larger drill bit than is in the hole saw for cutting out the holes in ones downspouts. These cutout circles will now not stick to the inside of the hole saw cutter.
    Start first with drilling with one size larger drill bit for the hole saw cutter drill bit. Once all the starting holes are drilled out in the downspouts, now use your hole saw cutter & with the drill in Reverse, of course, drill out the all of the round holes needed. Those round cutouts will now fall down into the downspout.
    Has a lot of great tips. He also show how to make a heater that operates rather cheaply, watch "ep 5 The Makings of a heater for your Cold Frame and some tips and Tricks". So yes he is doing a terrific job in the hydroponic systems. Kudos goes to him. Check his videos out, he has hydroponics & gardening going for him. Anything from NFT, DWC, Krakty, cold frames, micro greens, lighting, air circulation, drip systems & even where to get a lower price on most of the products he has used. I like his setup rooms, especially using the unused hot tub itself. Would love to have just a small portion of his energy. Wonder if would taking those Balance Of Nature Fruits And Veggies Whole Food Supplements do the same thing??? :> )

    I surround my grow shelves with ¼" craft foam board. I then wrap them in mylar. Both can be bought at dollar tree. The mylar I use the 84" plastic table cloths. They have every color black, mylar, etc.

    If you put the mylar sheet on the wall behind the tower the plants in the shade will grow much better. You may not have to rotate the towers.

    I'm fascinated by these downspout boxes!!
    I have a small tent going in our basement using soil as the medium. One of the best organic ways to feed the plants is a heaping tbsp of alfalfa meal and a tbsp of kelp into a gallon of filtered water. I drop an airstone in and bubble it for 24 hrs. After, I strain it with a flour sifter. That nice green water causes explosive growth every time.
    I'm wondering if that green water would work in those boxes (diluted with the existing water).

    I am a new subscriber Mike, and have been trying to binge watch your videos to start my own hydroponic setup this year. As an urban homesteader I am always trying to look at new ways to grow, and I honestly thought this was going to be hard, but thankfully you have shown me that anyone can start this. One question I have to ask, and maybe you have answered it in a video I haven't seen yet, but can you use the rock wool you can buy at the hardware store for home insulation as a growing medium?

    Hey Mike! Love your content - you convinced me to start with my systems!
    I am working with 3D printed end caps and I know that you’ve mentioned that they aren’t time efficient for you: would you be open to a conversation about it?
    I think we can definitely decrease the time you spend making those end caps so you can focus on other things.
    Thanks for what you do.

      Joe D have you tried printing them on edge rather than flat, you should be able to get more out of one print than you would doing the same number laid flat. The best way would be injection molded, the parts would be pennies and you could produce hundreds of thousands of them, but the mold itself would be upwards of $5K

    Great video! It's so wonderful that that you help others that are coming up with good ideas as well. I would like to know If there's some kind of attachment that I can attach to my rail outside I'd of my condo. I'm on the 3rd floor. BUT, I need to be able to remove the downspouts and put them inside when bad weather comes. So a tie back doesn't really work because I'll just have to keep cutting them. Any suggestions?

    • @KeepOnGrowin
      @KeepOnGrowin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Velcro straps maybe. I am talking with someone and making a prototype of something to that effect. I love helping others, gets the whole world growing!!

    • @Emeraldwitch30
      @Emeraldwitch30 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hope you don't mind me jumping in. But you can buy velcro strapping by the yard. I used it for cable tie backs and in my gardening. Its all over Amazon and the 1 inch size is really sturdy.
      I bet 3 sections of velcro wrap would hold your down spouts to the rail and then be easily movable.
      We use it on our pontoon to hold the fishing poles and to hold our floatation devices aka life jackets but in an emergency the velcro comes apart with no cutting. I have about half a roll somewhere round here as it comes I think, 25feet at a shot.
      Hope this helps.

    Is it true that growing the Hydroponics system means not planting in dirt? So when the micro plant. Ii planted know the noodle round piece then placed 8m the nutrient liquid...it will grow and need to be transplanted....to a larger container but not dirt. Right or wrong.?? I just watched a Hooch video showing he has plants actually looks like they're in bags. I'm literally just now starting this blond and need to try the most basic way and grow from there. Am starting with the papertowl and plastic food containers I've been saving . I have way too many.

      I used to work in a floral shop and They would use food coloring or wahatever it was to dye flowers. Like roses, carnations, etc. Dump it in the water and the flowers would soak it up and change color. Purdy cool! But I just wonder what doing that with veggie plants would do. Turn lettuce colors?? 🤔. Cant wait to see. 😁
