I have been taking the baby kale for salads and smoothies. Just the biggest leaves randomly to be careful not take too many from one plant so it can continue to grow.

Mike - Please give us a list of the veggies that you have had luck growing in downspout-type containers. Are you still using the 10-gram Masterblend, 5-gram Epsom salt, 10-gram calcium nitrate per 5 gal water mix?

I mix up the Masterblend as per instructions.
After getting to ratio of 1:250 and trying to give nutrients to the plants, this is where things seem to go haywire.
If the plant container holds 3 gallon of liquid, do I put in 3 gallons of the nutrients mixed to a ratio of 1:250 or what might be the correct amount to put into the plant container?
I made Solution A & B into separate containers with air tight lids on them, but within a month mold had developed, threw that mix out. My mixtures definitely won’t last for years….
Right now just trying to get a couple of basil & lettuce plants to grow. They are presently in jars and I change out their water every 4 days & mist them every morning & night.
Can you think of anything else I’m doing WRONG? Would like to do something right…

Howdy Mike. I'm curious about your outside space, you have some sort of sun screen material tent that you are growing beneath. Can you eleborate what kind of structure that is? Did you build it yourself or was is something you purchased? All of my greenhouses got smashed by falling branches during a storm and I'm thinking of putting something else up. I like how you have some growboxes on brackets along your outer wall. that's very clever and practical!
Thank you. The cover is shade cloth, I think 50%. The frame is actually 2 sets of scaffolding we used to use for painting murals. I was going to get rid of them but decided to upcycle them into a shade house. It is very sturdy.
Brackets, Walmart has a HUGE selection of brackets- (look for the light bupb/toilet seat isle) somewhere in that area is where they *SHOULD* be.

Hi, can you explain to me how to keep the water levels at 1/2 to 3/4 on your downspout? Do you just refill on a daily or weekly basis with your plant food and water mixture and does this ever shock your plants? Also, can this system work indoors by a window that gets direct sun the first half of the day? Thanks
Yes, just keep adding nutrient solution to keep it between that level. You will probably need some supplemental lighting.
