After 7 Suburbans, finally downsizing. Shopping for several years: Traverse/Palisade/Grand Highlander, etc. After realizing the new Suburban/Denali hood is just too high for my 5'4" frame, I put a deposit down on a 500h+. This is the one of the best reviews I've found on this SUV. Cons: no sunroof and limited exterior/interior colors like other models.
The captains chairs in the middle row make this a no go for my family. I really wish they offered this engine with a 3 place second row. Preferably with a removable middle seat.
Sunroofs are overrated! Everyone like you cries over "not enough head room," but you also want a sunroof! I opted to get my Grand Highlander with no sunroof, and it was the best decision i ever made! I never used it in my standard Highlander.

How comes you did not zonk the rear wipers? Also, I prefer the POV of the road. You should do a two camera setup one showing you and and the second showing the POV of the road.
One thing I am wondering about is if this has a "room" mode where HVAC works over an extended period of time with the other functions of the car being off. It may make a great camping vehicle with all that cargo space if it did. Also, can the 120V 1500W outlet be used when the car is off, or in a way that it would cycle the gas engine on and off to keep the battery sufficiently charged. If so it would make a great generator to power a backup home window AC etc when the home power is out.
6 seats max in the plug-in is a miss for me. Defeats the purpose of buying a car this size. It seems like a lack of flexibility in top trims is making it to where I can't quite get exactly what I want, especially factoring in the price of full sized SUVs
well technically, this is a full-sized crossover SUV, even though its called a midsize luxury suv. its almost as big on the outside as the gls and x7 which are classified as full-sized SUVs. and they both have 6 seats in their top trims. if u want a full-sized crossover SUV, ur only option is the GMC Acadia's upcoming redesign (classified as a midsize SUV like the TX) that will have 7-8 seats and none of them will come with any kind of hybrid.
@@huanronghu4432So I say all those brands only offering 6 seats in a gigantic vehicle are just as foolish as Lexus. At least give the customer the *option* of sitting 3 people in the 2nd row. Dumb.

If I buy one, I would like to use the battery for most of my driving. How is the car responding if I need to accelerate? Also can I keep it in ev mode without having to use the V6 ever?
Nice, nice Lexus TX550h+ I feel like it's a good good SUV but while official pricing has not been set in stone as of yet I feel like this is a very very nice SUV.
I looked again and decided that the morphology of this vehicle is actually very nice for what it is -- a large SUV. Its aesthetic is appropriate, and doesn't pretend to be something that this vehicle is not --- not a race car; not a rugged off-roader; not an Italian work of art.
I am one of those who think either a gasoline engine or a hybrid system but I am not attracted to the plug in system For me it is a double expense if what I am looking for is greater economy in an SUV Thank you for your videos, they are greatly appreciated because you will learn when the time comes to purchase a vehicle.
Okay, Joe, here’s a challenge for you. If and when you get to 1.5 million or 2 million subscribers, I challenge you to fill a car of your choice with snack item off your choice. Maybe you can have a drawing and donate the proceeds to charity? Or maybe you just do it for fun. Either way, keep up the good work. May you both be well.
I prefer cars with no sunroof now! I opted to get my Grand Highlander without one and ZERO regrets! The headroom is ridiculously good without one! I also carry things up top and no sunroof means I don't have to worry about damaging the glass while I tie things down!
3 seats in 2nd row is must, without that it will be useless like Lexus RX450HL. I would have replaced my 2019 RX450HL if TX has 3 seats in 2nd row. Sunroof is not there which is fine to get more headroom.
Hey Joe...what do you think of this as compared to a Volvo xc90 recharge? What I am after is that EV "feeling" for my commute, with the phev setup for road trips. I love the way my current EV drives, but taking it on a road trip is such a hassle(and stressful) I won't do it again. Is this able to drive in EV mode with a decent amount of acceleration?
It's likely due to weight limit considerations. It's already 500lbs heavier than the 500h. The glass of the moonroof would add even more, as would a 7th seat in a bench.
We bought my wife a Lexus NX 450h+ FSport and it is awesome! We have only filled the gas tank up once since April 29th and she has almost 5000 miles on it now. A perfect vehicle for her commute to the downtown ATL. This TX PHEV is intriguing. We have 4 kids and are in a Suburban High Country right now (our last 3 have been the Suburban, a Denali XL, and an Escalade ESV). Is this vehicle big enough for a family of 6 and their stuff? If GM made a PHEV with one of their big SUVS we would be all in! A 6.2 V8 with a PHEV would be perfect compromise!
You obviously can't do math. A hybrid typically carries a $7,000-$10,000 premium (sometimes more) over a non-hybrid model. It will take you YEARS to recoup that cost and reach the break-even point unless you drive crazy miles. 5,000 miles is hardly high mileage to brag about any savings. This is the biggest misconception among hybrid owners is that they brag about how little in gas they use and seem to think they are saving money by not filling at the pump. You either pay now (hybrid) or pay later (non-hybrid). Either way, you are still paying. The only value to owing a hybrid is the convenience factor of not having to fill up the tank at the station once a week, which is a hassle. There is hardly any economic gains based on normal driving conditions. And let's not even start the discussion about the so-call "reducing carbon emission" argument.
Let’s compare RAV4 hybrid vs non hybrid. The hybrid model starts at $700 more than the AWD non hybrid model. EDIT: The Hybrid model is also AWD I am too a RAV4 hybrid and RAV Prime owner. First tank of gas last me 3,325 miles but like you mentioned my PHEV was $8k more than the hybrid model. Both are loaded to the gills.
It would be helpful for those of us with larger families if you could comment on the practicality of actually carrying 7 passengers in these SUVs that advertise themselves as capable of that. The second row folding mechanism differs on these big SUVs , particularly with car seats installed. Thanks Joe, keep up the great work.
