It is really good to be able to go to the doc and ask how THEY have been.... Because you feel A-OK. And then get good news as well!
Very true mate, I had a pretty big smile when I left there, Appreciate you watching, Cheers
Good news from your cancer doctor Matty. I'm pleased for you.
Watching you turn out you work fascinates me I am 80 years old disabled so don't get out much and I know nothing about lathe work
but I love to see the shiny metal which was hiding under the dull and rusty stock.
Please keep your videos coming Matty I realty look forward to them.
Best regards from Ken in the UK
Gday Ken, I was pretty happy with the news from the doctors, Its always good when I get messages like this saying you enjoy the videos, sometimes i'm amazed what's under the rusty stock as well mate, Appreciate you watching, Cheers

G'day Matty, great news on your health result mate, I and many I expect are really happy for you and your family. As for the boring head, it's coming along nicely and as it is still in the latter stages of development, you expect that you will need to alter certain things with the change in the angle of that forward and reverse lever as an example. Don't worry about the lack of video, last week and only a short update this week mate as life gets in the way sometimes, as the saying goes "Shit happens" lol Cheers from England, and see you next week, Sam
Gday Sam, I expected a few things will need to be modified and nothing is ever right the first time, one the gear cutters arrive then ill be back onto this build again, Thanks for watching, Cheers
Good to hear you're doing better at the Dr.!

Really glad to hear of a good result at the Doc’s. Always glad for these vids when you have the time and not before. 👍 Health and family first always. Cheers - appreciate the update and the developments on the boring and facing head. Sort of glad I’m not the only one who clicks the wrong buttons when buying tools. Sure end up with a lot of tools that way. 😂 TL;DR.
Gday Stuart, Your stickers arrived the other day and I seen your email but haven't gotten around to replying yet sorry, this hasn't been the first time i've brought a toll and something different turns up, i'm a non drinker so I cant even blame it on the alcohol mate, Thanks for watching, Cheers

Thanks mate
Good to see you!

Great news from the oncologist. I watched the series and you've done a fine job on this tool. Can't say I am a fan of the external starwheel, it looks like spinning a swarf magnet to me. Have you seen how the VHU and clones do the facing function. Mechanism is entirely internal to the head and you can select a range of feed rates. Probably too late to change now though.
Gday, Ive never seen inside a boring and facing head and how they work, can the VHU face in either direction?, Thanks for watching
@@MattysWorkshop It can face in only one direction but reversing the rotation will reverse the feed.
H&F stock a VHU clone, product code M185. Take a look at the detail photos along with this description.
This design is very popular in industry. I first used one more than 40 years ago as an apprentice and I can confidently say every place I have worked since had at least one. The way it works is quite ingenious. The feed screw is a trapezoidal thread of 4mm pitch so is very strong and not prone to wearing it's bronze nut. In the end of the feed screw is a 6mm female hex, use this hex to rapidly move the head to the starting radius. The screw also has 4 detents making it easy to count off full mm moves. The dial on the side attaches to a worm which drives the main screw nut which has the mating worm wheel on it's OD. The nut is held in a fixed location in the upper body section and pushes the lower section by feeding the main screw which is attached to the lower body section. This worm drive provides the fine adjustment of 0.01mm.
The knurled ring at the top of the head has 4 vertical pins. These pins are progressively engaged to vary the feed rate per rev. These pins engage with the main screw nut so that if the top ring is held stationary while the head is rotating the pins drive the nut to feed the tool out. the ring also has an overload slip clutch should the head reach maximum extension.
While I understand it's often about the journey and not the destination for the hobbyist, given the time and expense of making your own the asking price for the fully heat treated commercial alternative makes it a compelling option. My only significant criticism of this clone is the 18mm tool holes, 19mm would allow standard boring bars to be fitted.
@@MattysWorkshop See Kurtis's latest video. his Wholhopter boring head is similar in design and function
This was awesome news Matty.
Thanks mate
Hi Matty, Great news with the Doc, I hope the gear cutters I have are not holding you up :)
Gday, your not holding me up at all, take your time, I’ve ordered a set of 0.7 module cutters but there a few weeks away, thanks for watching mate, cheers
Beautiful work !
Thank you very much
I like the indicator attachment. I've always relied on the micrometer dial but it's tiny and hard to read. I'll have to see if I can adapt mine.
Regards, Preso
Gday Preso, This way has worked really well in the past with my other boring heads, Thanks for watching, Cheers
Interesting project!
East Tennessee
Thanks for watching, Cheers
Hi Matty excelent news about your health, one other thing did you move your shop around a bit looks good bit more room, and also good update video
Gday, I have moved the workshop around quite a bit, Heaps more room now, Thanks for watching, Cheers
Hello Matt, found your channel from Steve's Place Under. Pleased to know that you received a good repor from the medicos.
Rather than offsetting the gearbox, you could do it with planetary gears so the spoked wheel just sits on the outer shaft driving the planetary to a drive gear. Just thinking it keeps everything in line.
Gday, That could work to, good food for thought, Cheers
Great news😊
Cheers mate👍
Great news there Matty re the cancer, hope it is the last of it for you.
Don't worry about the odd mistake (clicking wrong button), you're not Robinson Carusoe there mate. We must have attended the same school somewhere down the track. Every time you make a small blue I am reminded of something thing Dad (Ex cabinet maker) told me back in the 60s. I was hammering in a nail and gave it one or two extra smacks and left the imprint of the hammer on the timber. He said "That's right, sign your bloody name on it". Funny bugger he was at times. Bloody good father though.
All the very best mate.
Gday, I can remember my dad saying something very similar many years ago, I believe he's words were " you can bloody see your been there boy"🤣, Cheers
Listen....
Hi.
Gday
👍👍
Cheers mate
Good news from the cancer Doc. is always welcome. Updates will happen when they do.
Thanks for watching mate, Cheers
Good to hear you've whacked both projects, Matty. The cancer report is a relief, I'm sure.
The boring head is a great looking build, and I'm sure the gearbox will make it even better. What reduction are you looking for? 50%?
Regards from Canada's banana belt. 🤞🇨🇦🍌🥋🇺🇦🕊🇦🇺🐨🪃👍
Gday, I walked in to the appointment nervous and left smiling, The reduction at this stage will be 50% and possibly a little more, Thanks for watching, cheers
