Thanks for making this videos. We starting to make dyneema stays. And needed the info you sharing. We think dyneema is the way to go to be more independent on the Oceans
Hi Luke. How is the synthetic rigging and eyelet business doing? Have you thought of using Kevlar? I know cost in high but the life would be awesome. Please reach out to Salt&Tar sailboat project ! Love to see your rigging on that wooden boat. Greg of Ohio
Hi, thanks for your channel. I am looking at a JJ Taylor built 32’ contessa. It was built in 1984 and i am told it has the original standing rigging. I am very interested in converting to dyneema if i buy this boat. Is there a way i can reach you to talk about what is involved and help me figure out how much this will cost me. Thanks for your time
Saw that you used Delrin acetal tape to isolate mast fittings in one of your videos. Curious which product you use as I’m looking for that very type of thing and am not having much luck.
It's a 3M product, 10 mils thick. The rolls of it cost about $2K so I buy it by the foot from Catalina Direct. Only two or 3 feet of it is enough to isolate every piece of stainless hardware on a large boat mast. Great stuff, I never leave home without it in my Riggers Bag.
Hi Luke, l really got interested in the synthetic rigging and splicing watching James on the Zingaro making the Deadeye and was wondering do you also take apart the one end and rebraid it ? and was wondering what the purpose was , i learned how to sail there in San Diego Bay with J world by the way on Shelter Island it was cool !! looking forward to seeing more of your videos thx Luke
Mark... I don't use that braiding method for splices. I'm not sure where it even came from and its not something I would want to employ, it looks like it violates some of the 'rules' regarding bury lengths when splicing synthetic fibers.
Thx for getting back to me Luke !! I see that your deadeye's are so nice and clean looking, beautiful work by the way !! is the reason I asked I hope to be able to learn how to it so I bought a New England rope starter kit and a some dyneema to practice with looking forward to any videos you might make to, thx again Luke !! @@SteelDoesMyWill
