Wow! This is kinda crazy because I used to have my EQs and what not almost the same way about 3 years ago. Back then I don't think I would have ever thought of duping the snare though.
interesting.. I' ve seen a video about uneven tuning like that before. I'm going to try out brass hoops as soon as I get a new snare drum. the one I have now doesn't allow me to get the heads that tight..
Surprising you get such a good sound with a simple set up and stock plugins! But I will say, get the slate virtual mix rack and a few ml2 mics for the kit. They rock!
If you want to make some more money drumming, make your drum multitracks available. Lots of people love to use them as a way of learning how to mix drums, and it helps that you're a kickass drummer
Duuude. Your voice doesn’t match the way you look. Dunno what I expected your voice to sound like... I think I was expecting more “California” and less “Canada.” Shows how much I know. Cool video!
Jay C he uses a Gibraltar click pad. Get one, they are awesome. I ordered one on amazon and it sounds great. They stick on your bass drum and sound great.
Jay C if you get one, try tuning your reso head really tight and your batter head just slightly tighter than finger-tight. I do that and then slap the click pad on it and it sounds amazing.
Do you record straight into Reaper or are you still using your dp02? Trying to figure out how your tracks are split while using the tascam. Diggin the hair-do btw! Haha
Man. I have fam in michigan and you sound just like em. I love your dance of eternity cover man. Iv never seen anybody play that song without interpreting it.
@@joshsteffen That does affect the way each plugin behaves. Try using subtractive eq only sometime. Avoid boosting frequencies, and try to change mic position to capture more detail. I used to use eq like crazy too, until a studio owner showed me otherwise.
@@joshsteffen Subtractive means that you do not boost any frequency band, and only using negative gain to get rid of frequencies bands you don't want in the sound. This will force you to enhance your mic techniques and also improve your understanding of the instrument with regards to recording and the physics of mics. Try pulling the mic away from the snare, you'll hear a more compressed sound once you bring up the gain to compensate for the attenuation, what I like to use is a mic parallel the the surface of the snare with its axis in line with the snare hoop edge. It's captures enough detail to give me plenty to work with.
How i tune my snare drum: batter head súper tight, bottom head súper tight.
I don't recommend it, because your head will broke. Little damage happened to my Remo Black X drumhead, because it was tight as violin.
Still love that snare man, really can’t wait to see the new kit!
Might I suggest using busses for you reverbs? Makes a more "glued" result and is both less work and processing.
come back with more Slipknot drum covers pleeaassee!!!!
yeeeeessssssss
no no please no. slipknot sucks
Put ads on the video, youre looking for ways to make money off of drumming and this is it
Definitely!
You cant monetize over cover videos.
@@Procyon58 I'll admit I skipped through this video, but is there a cover in here? It's a tutorial.
Dude thank you so much! Your my favorite drummer on TH-cam man! And I love your snare drum sound!
Wow! This is kinda crazy because I used to have my EQs and what not almost the same way about 3 years ago. Back then I don't think I would have ever thought of duping the snare though.
Gotta make sockfael drum sticks

You may wanna get shorter screws also. My guess is they're too long and are bottoming out. I had to do that with my piccolo.
@@joshsteffen I never thought of that.. I'll try that as well. thatnks for replying

Josh, could you please make a video of the snare sound for Slayer? I'd like it.
Got that carter beauford snare sound
Is that the unforgiven 3???

I EQ literally everything exactly the way you EQ your drum sound. I wish I was still playing drums with some of the technology they have nowadays
I've mentioned it before but boy that voice is wisconsin (or pretty much anything more north from there)
He lives in northeast Wisconsin
@@emilk.6431 I definitely could sense that then 😂

Cool video!
I honestly think it matches pretty well
he's from wisconsin
his voice always reminds me of the guy talking at the beginning of the song green mind by dink.
yeah I had the same feeling once I heard his voice ..
Kenny Gioia's "ReaperMania" TH-cam channel is awesome indeed !
Mostra mais partes da bateria ,você vai gravar o álbum novo do Slipknot?
Muy lindo pero asi se terminan doblando los aros del tambor , saludos
I bet your neighbors love it when you tune your snare 😂 BTW please show me how you get your kick to sound the way it does!

*insert name here* awesome. I've gotten a few click pads before but they all have sounded awful

Josh The Best
Nice sound!!
Super interesting but odd tuning style lol, never seen anyone who’s tuned like that before. Would that damage the hoop?
Probably.
I like you dude ( no homo )
Big fan of yours! You have any sig. sticks?
I had this Idea in my head when I was at school watching your videos. You should do New Korn in the Style of David Silveria
It's mind boggling how much you can alter natural acoustic sounds.
New drumset?
Yes. This one is behind the curtain now.
How's the guitar playing video coming along
Anthrax covers pls ?
Sweet dude, this helps!
do you have problem with hoops warping with that tuning?
Where did you get just the hoops? I'm looking and don't see just hoops for sale.
Google drum factory direct
Thanks man!
What kind of double kick is that? It looks like my old one
Pearl eliminator
Are you playing in ur house
Basement of his house

I use an 8 channel interface now.
I love the way it sounds, but don't you risk breaking the skin faster if you tune it that way?
Perhaps but I have yet to put a hole in a remo black x.
Why do you have 2 mics at top and bottom of snare?
josh whats your reso head on your toms?
i see its evans
What do you use the snare wire?
Minnesota? Wisconsin? The Dakotas? Canada?
Ya dare. Wisconsin
I would never have guessed. lol
I'm in Antioch, California (bay area). Sorry about your Packers (NOT).
You look like the offspring of Caitlyn Jenner and Bill Murray.
Nice jhorts
And the Falling away from me song >:v?
Holy shit just realized you look like rob schneider haha
Do More Josh Magnetic pls
He end Josh Magnetic, it was all 10 songs from Death Magnetic album by Metallica.
You mean Beyond Josh
i use evans lol
I think it's time to change the bass drum head
I just changed the whole drumset.
You have to be from Michigan man
I'm 20 minutes away in Wisconsin dare ay.
Man. I have fam in michigan and you sound just like em. I love your dance of eternity cover man. Iv never seen anybody play that song without interpreting it.
Sound like St. Anger.
Completely no.
I miss Slipknot drum cover
Dude EVERYTHING is clipping
I pointed that out. +11.6
