As outrageous as it could be the FX of the Seaview were great and still look good today

The Seaview is the Cadillac of all film and television submarines before and after. I prefer the Seaview from the first season with the eight window two deck bow section.
The second version that has the Flying Sub, another cool looking craft was okay. I think it diminished the Seaview’s size a bit.
The movie and the television show suggested that the Seaview, with its many capabilities and compartments like the missile room and the aft torpedo room, had the length and width of a WW2 tanker, but Irwin Allen , being a tightwad with the budget had these two versions of the Seaview.
Great detail on the lighting fixtures for this model.

Might be interesting to see a in depth discussion on how they did the practical effects on the television show.

Why do some photos show a single row of windows, while others show a double row?

The movie and the first session did not have the flying sub. It had the control room and another deck below it. This was the two rolls of windows. The second season had the flying sub. The lower deck was removed to make room for the sub. No need for the lower windows. The movie and first session had a miny sub which was done away with

My first Seaview model consisted of a wrapping paper tube, chipboard, masking tape, and lots of imagination.

Ok, for what it's worth, here's my 2 cents. For the movie and the 1st season, the Seaview had 8 windows (4 per side). That changed for the 2nd season, and they added the Flying Sub and the 2 tear shaped pods.

First season used a lot of stock footage from the film, which they could no longer do once they went to color in season two.

The special effects improved when it went to color and added the Flying Sub.

The U.S.S. Seaview's sister ships U.S.S. Neptune SSRN-2 and The U.S.S. Angler SSRN-3 from the first season episodes Mutiny and The Enemies have not been made as r/c models.

Also, the observation windows would be mostly useless, since sunlight normally penetrates to only 200 meters (about 650 feet) below the surface.
