Hi Pete. Just discovered your channel through this video. Cobham and Mahogany Rush are great, cheap finds. Love the ART and Magma pillows. Subbed and look forward to checking out some older videos. Cheers from Canada. -Jeff

That's a wonderful Rory Gallagher album. Congrats! Also love the Billy Cobham album. I used to listen to it a ton. Nice haul!

Never actually heard this one by Rory, but any album by him is going to be worth listening to. It's a long time since I've listened to the Cobham, but I remember it being an excellent album. Cheers, Pete

Hello there Pete. It is nice to see you back again. Thank you for sharing the records that you found at the Windermere Fair. Do you live near the Lake District National Park? It is very pretty out there. I saw photos of it. I have the Max Roach. Really solid listen. I did see Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush live at Boston Garden in 1979. They were a backup to Ted Nugent. Who I went to see only because my cousin had an extra ticket that he could not get rid of. I would not have gone otherwise. But I did enjoy seeing Frank Marino. That Steven Stills is one of my top three solo albums from CSN. It is a very strong album. He is a fantastic acoustic guitar player. He never made any mistakes when I saw him live. That was quite enjoyable Pete. I think we share a lot of the same interests when it comes to music. Have a wonderful week. Catch up with you soon~

Hi Rob, thanks for continuing to support my videos. I live on the West Coast of Cumbria (hence the name), so I'm only a few miles from the Lake District National Park. It's a beautiful area of the country - unfortunately the weather hardly ever matches that beauty! Good to hear that the Roach is a decent listen, I thought it would be worth the minimal outlay. Marino's a really good guitar player, and I enjoyed the live album, so I don't think I'll be disappointed by the two I picked up yesterday. I've unfortunately never seen Stills live, but I agree about his guitar skills. Been wanting to pick up his first album for quite a while. Does sound like our musical tastes overlap quite a bit! All the very best, Pete

I subscribe to the theory that there is never a right time for a drum solo. Nice artwork on the CCS. Nice Auger/Tippets find. nice Stills and Faces albums. Pretty solid finds given your preferred dealer wasn't there. Cheers Dale

Philistine! Love me a good drum solo. Despite it being a bit smaller than last time, there was still some decent stuff to be had. I wouldn't call him my preferred dealer as we've yet to see him - maybe next time. Have a great week, Pete

Some excellent pick ups Pete. Love Frank Marino - hugely underrated guitarist. Tales of the Unexpected has some wonderful jazzy guitar. Really wish he had pursued that route. Love the Stills LP. Some stellar guest contributions on that one. Always love seeing what you pick up. Cheers fella, Chris

Thanks very much Chris. Really looking forward to giving those Marino albums a spin - I really enjoyed the live album. The Stills I've wanted to pick up for a long while - the CSN&Y gang could hardly put a foot wrong around this period. Take care, Pete

Afternoon Pete. Like many older folk I remember the CCS Whole Lotta Love theme on Top of the Pops very well. But I never knew those jazz UK greats you mentioned were in the CCS line-up. I think I need to investigate! You’re right about Brian Auger and Julie Tippets Vinyl being scarce. So that Encore album was a good find. Looks like it was another worthwhile trip to Windermere. Take care, John.

Hi John, those British jazzers were everywhere in the 70s - they obviously made far more money from their session work than their own jazz work. I didn't know of the Encore album before I found it yesterday, so really looking forward to giving it a spin. I really enjoy these trips out to the record fairs (especially as we don't have any shops around here worth mentioning) - there's nothing like the anticipation of finding something worthwhile. All the best, Pete

Hi Pete I used to have spectrum but I sent it to Edwin pretty green vinyl guy as vclt when he won my contest. Surprisingly he’d never heard of him so I sent it to him i should have kept it as I did enjoy it I do have crosswinds by billy cobham which is pretty good . I was at a record fair in Stockport yesterday which was pretty well attended. That Stephen stills album is supposed to be very good . I picked up something stills related yesterday. Thanks for sharing Pete 👍

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Rob, agree about Spectrum being a really good album - it's the best of the 2 or 3 I've heard by him. The first 2 Stills albums get good reviews - the ones after that get a mixed reaction. The best stuff he's done outside of CSN(&Y) are probably the Manassas albums. Look forward to seeing what you picked up yesterday in Stockport. Cheers, Pete.

I never heard of CCS but sounded interesting. The jazz pick ups sounded good too. You found some interesting things.

I think CCS are worth checking out - a decent mixture of jazz, blues and rock. All the best, Pete.

Hi Pete, Another good record fair visit! Much of it I am not familiar with, but I do have a couple of Billy Cobham albums and have contemplated getting the recently released Cobham box set. Then I have some Mahavishnu albums with him on of course. He has also played (at least live) with one my favorite guitar players, Terje Rypdal (must keep up my Norwegian Arts Council gig :-)). Hope to get back to more music this week (and do the next Finnish video) and looking forward to the next Krautrock video when available. Take care, Richard

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939

Hi Richard, no Scandinavian prog this time - in fact very little prog at all. I've only ever heard 2 or 3 of Cobham's solo albums, and this one is by far the best. I need to get more Rypdal into my collection - only have a couple. Stop slacking and get working on that Finnish video 😁. Cheers, Pete

    • @vinylizingprogger

Cannot be all prog. Only a couple of Rypdal must me fixed though :-) (I probably have about 15 :-) ). Have been working on the video and ran into some tech difficulties and then some things on the home front distracting. Hope this week. Cheers, Richard

Checking in with one derrick and penge's favorite channels..lol.
Seems like you have plenty of fairs there as well..lol.
I like all those brand x lp's super cheap so reason not to pick them up..but I love that Canterbury and related stuff.
That roach is excellent has a top version of the classic track nommo.
As also love that auger/tippetts lp.
Great version of bruce's rope ladder to the moon..julie is one of my favorite singers sunset glow is an all timer for me 💖.
See the streetnoise and auger lp's here alot and cheap..will try to gather them up for you when I do 😀.
Hope all is well with you and yours brother..much love chris

Hi Chris, wonderful to hear from you. Agree about the Brand X albums - they're always pretty plentiful and cheap, and even the weakest have decent stuff on them so are worth picking up. I'm really intrigued to listen to the Roach, not sure I own anything that he drums on, but I know his reputation, so it should be a good listen. Good to hear that the Auger / Tippets gets your seal of approval - I hadn't heard of the album before I saw it yesterday, and I was a bit wary as sometimes these sort's of reunions never capture the original magic.
I'm OK here, but still being careful - I hope that you are doing well too. Best wishes, Pete

Nice pickups ! Interesting fact about the first Stills album ,the only album to have both Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix on it. Very cool. Peace !

Hi Michael, I did not know that about the Stills album. I did hear that he had worked with Hendrix at some point, but didn't know about Clapton. Cheers, Pete

Hi Pete, I envy your attendance of so many record fairs. You certainly are making the most of them. I've got that Rory Gallagher album, but haven't got into it yet. In fact I haven't really got into Rory Gallagher at all. I'll keep returning to him though in the hope I will get it one day. Mahogany Rush seldom get shown on the VC. Frank Marino had a lot less Blues in his guitar than Jimi IMO. CCS. Nice. That one takes me back. I learned to quite like it once I was able to ignore the hand clapping. :-). Did you know there are different versions of that Pallas album? Originally the 'Rise And Fall' parts 1 and 2 were a single track. I think they had to split it to keep the record company happy...I think. I've never really understood why to be honest. It's a great album though. You can't go wrong with the Faces. One of my favorite bands! Thanks Pete. Enjoy your records! Cheers

Hi John, sorry not to have replied earlier - it's been a busy few days - not even had a chance to listen to much music (though that doesn't stop me buying 🤣). This plethora of record fairs is a new phenomenon since our discovery of the Windermere one - much needed as apart from an HMV we don't have any record shops in the area. Next one is Kendal on the 28th.
Your relationship with Rory Gallagher sounds pretty much like mine with Stevie Ray Vaughn - he should be right up my street, but it doesn't quite gel fore me and I couldn't say why. Always loved the CCS singles back in the day so pleased to pick up their albums, they can be a bit of a mixed bag, but generally enjoyable. Didn't know that there had been two versions of The Sentinel - it's been many a year since I heard it, and I'd forgotten how good an album it is. Love The Faces (and Rod's early solo albums)!
      All the best, Pete

@@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 Absolutely no need to apologize Pete. TH-cam is here for us, we are not here for TH-cam. Yes, it's funny how some artists just take a bit longer to click than others isn't it. There is a running joke that I try to get into Elvis Costello every year as a Resolution, never seem to manage it though. :-)

Drums unlimited is a good late career date from Max. I'm not familiar with CCS chalk it up to me being a yank.

    Heartbreaker album not Wishing Well

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I know! You have to forgive an old man 😁. In my defence at least Wishing Well was the hit single from the Heartbreaker album.
