@imdizzy2801 NP, after 30yrs as a Firefighter/ EMS Medical First Responder with my degree in Fire Science Engineering and Technology (Plus my CFI - Certified Fire Investigator), I had these thing pounded into my head starting in '81 and retirement in '11.
We had a manhole explosion near our home a team was checking an electrical room, opening the door when an explosion in the room blew the door off and killed a member. There is a plaque on the building dedicated to the member killed
This made me think about the transformer fire video, but seeing how the fire crews stayed back in this one made me nervous! The explosion made me scared for all of you there! Great video! I look forward to your videos! Stay safe and keep up the great work!
Thank you John for your patience and professionalism. I love watching your videos they are the best! Blessings to all FDNY and to you John, of course. Thank you again. ❤🚒❤
Good job as usual. Those blue flames scare the heck out of me because it's most likely electric. I lived in a real slum as a kid and the wires were partly cotton clothe and when we tried to do pullups over the doorway, we would get shocks and even at 120 V its scary-I have a healthy fear of voltage.
Hey J we used to go to those all the time. I could not watch when the Con-Ed Red truck crews would go down into those vaults. Not me. A few times the fire went through conduit and ended up in the cellars.
You caught it, JJ! Seems to me that ConED needs to be more responsive. There are so many important FDNY resources tied up waiting around to help solve a ConEd problem.
WELL, I AGREE BUT THE CITY HAS TONS OF THESE INCIDENTS EVERY SINGLE DAY KEEPING THEM AT CON ED 24/7 A YEAR LONG.....THEY DO GET WORK BUT HAVE TONS OF IT TO DO.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
WELL, THEY HAVE TONS OF THESE INCIDENTS IN NEW YORK CITY ON A DAILY BASIS SO IT IS INDEED VERY HECTIC FOR THEM.....THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE AND WORK VERY HARD TO FIX THE PROBLEMS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.....BUT, THANKS SO MUCH.....
Great catch John, first time seeing blue flames at a fire scene. That manhole was burning hot. Keep up the good work my friend and stay safe out there.
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 , I was a Vol Firefighter upstate. In all seriousness I do think the power company should have some response units to get to calls. Especially accidents with wires on vehicles. Your video coverage is great. I was lucky enough to do ride alongs quite often in the Bronx. Be safe.
Well I was watching and I asked here if ConEd emergency response units are allowed to run reds and such to get to FD emergencies faster. And withing 10 minutes JJ answers my question. (It was no, they aren't.) Great video as always, those blue flames are pretty darn cool and that big pop was impressive.
Dunno how it works in NY, but I've seen bus drivers get themselves in all sorts of trouble going off-route - getting stuck in a turn that's too sharp, hitting awnings, etc. One time, the driver realising he couldn't make a turn, decided to back up and reversed into a tree - a branch came in the back of the bus and flattened everyone sitting on the back seat!
I think there must be one guy, period, that goes out on calls. They always seem to be far, far away from where help is needed. Always! What does it actually burn down there that causes the black smoke? I think ConEd has a code for showing up that means when you feel like it.
this is going to become more and more common with the age of the infrastructure and the government in those areas not putting the money out to upgrade it yet they can give themself a big pay raise every year especially in large city's.
It was my understanding that the ConEd vaults have a sump in them to eject the water out to a storm drain or street level - I've heard of the snow melt doing these in esp. with the salt - is there any other reasons they burn so often? Age?
sheesh how long did it take con-ed to show up... multiple FD units sprint out the door there in no time, scene secured... 20 minutes later con-ed strolls in... looking more fashionably late than anything... and btw, is it CONsolidated-EDison or COMMonwealth-EDison????????... i always get those two mixed up
In all reality it takes time to respond to emergencies. Their vehicles are not fire trucks with sirens. They have to observe all the rules of the road like you & I do. With traffic especially Manhattan it takes a long time to get there. They have 3 shifts of troubleshooters available to respond. However if they are already tied up with a previous call? They have to send the next available closest red wagon. Which might be in lower Manhattan?
Con-Ed is the worst. It takes them way too long to respond to an emergency. You would think for the money that they charge for electric service to everyone they have somebody standing on every corner.
All that methane from the sewers can get a tad toxic and explosive. 😂😂 Just think, your farts are exploding all over the city. 😂 You were 'Johnny on the Spot' again, for this one.

Same in Vancouver, BC. Developers from China are buying up all the heritage buildings and city hall makes money by getting them to tear down all the beautiful buildings and replace them with glass and concrete towers that have no character. But it makes the property tax take goes up.

Yes, we know what that is since it is an electrical fire... it is copper salts from the cables vaporizing in the heat of the fire. Cupric salts always make a flame go green-blue.

Blue Flames are indicative of burning copper. Different color flames come from different metals burning. Great vid J.J. thank you.
