- The FDNY granted us total access, spending twenty-four hours with the firefighters of Engine Company 255 and Ladder Company 157 in Brooklyn -- one of the busiest firehouses in New York.
Eyewitness News reporter N.J. Burkett and photographer Josh Hartmann followed them on virtually every run.

well, it's a tiny station, so 52 seconds should be more or less normal. Stations over here should be out after 60 seconds, however 90 are realistic due to the size of many stations
@@EnjoyFirefighting same here in finland professionals should be enroute to the scene in 1 minute and volunteers should be enroute in 10 minutes

The reporter was NJ Burkett, hes famously known as a reporter who had an unscripted run as he and his crew fled to a basement just as the south tower collapsed on 9/11. I remember seeing him as a kid and the fear in his voice.

As a 28 yr veteran Firey from Australia everything he said is what makes the job so satisfying, I am about to retire and I am looking forward to it,BUT the friendships you make last for lifetime and been told you are respected by your fellow firefighters Is the ultimate achievement.
Respect to you brother. Enjoy your retirement I retired 15 years ago and still miss it (some of it) other stuff that you don't like to remember creeps in at night to this day. Have fun.

Been in fire service since 1983. I am still amazed by firemen I have worked with. Courage, humility, valor.
While this is a great look at a single station and a testament to FDNY, it is also a big thank you to the hundreds of thousands of smoke eaters at fire agencies all over the country who put their lives on the line daily for our protection - all amazingly dedicated, extraordinarily skilled men and women. Thank you for your incredible service and may God keep you safe from harm.

E255 & L157, my first due companies. I'm proud to have these fine brave men looking out for my safety. Best house in the world.
Much respect to these men and women, my house caught on fire and we had 4 departments respond, the first to show came from an Indian reservation all natives,, they all had an impressive response time. Saved the house just lost everything inside to smoke damage. Thanks to you all! By the way they saved the animals and took all the family pictures off the walls and saved them also,,, they know what’s important!

No, you're not. The vast majority of journalists are hard-working, dedicated, ethical and honest. They do what they do because they love it. Not to get rich. Just like firefighters. I'm speaking from personal experience. I switched careers, from journalism to fire.

Great work boys !! I'm 54 years old,live in Texas, work as a corrections officer 4 with Texas Department of Criminal Justice and have been there for just over five years. About a week ago I applied for a volunteer firefighter position with Clute Volunteer Fire Department in Clute, Texas where I live. We had a open house for the public today and I stopped by after I left my nine hours working the day shift at the prison in 90 F heat to help out at our fire station. We have a training meeting tomorrow night and I'm going to that. I sure hope I get picked, get to join the department, get through training and start going on calls. I want to do that job for the same reason you are already doing it and that is to protect and rescue citizens of this city when they are in danger and need assistance.
Thank you for everything you do to protect and rescue citizens in New York City. You are great humans and absolute legends !! May God, Jesus, Mary and the patron saint of firefighters protect all of you every single time any of your stations get a call.

I remember my years as a fire fighter. I lived literally 100 feet from the station. On the dispatch I was always first to the house, Bay doors open, called county, in turn out gear out on the paddock with doors open ready to roll. Our response time was usually under 5 minutes unless we had a bunch of us already at the house hanging out. By the way we were volunteer. I want to thank my Brothers everywhere for their services. If you are reading this please pull over next time you see or hear lights and sirens, Every second counts! Imagine you are the one who needs help and needs it quickly.

I’m sorry Margarita, but I have to disagree. They’re NOT like everyone else! Why? Because they do what most people wouldn’t even THINK of doing!! That in itself makes them special. You may not appreciate it at the moment...But you sure would if you had one of them carrying you out of that burning building, saving you from a certain death! Think about it.
I love watching documentaries about first responders b/c of how much admiration & respect I have for them. They risk their lives every day so that others may live.

Its life and death everyday.the risk is always there.not everyone is cut out to he a firefighter...the best and most dedicated people I've ever known are smokeaters..god bless everyone of the firefighters,both paid and volunteer companies all across this great country of ours for risking their lives for every call😊

Salute to the FDNY growing up in Pittsburgh loving the different engine companys now living in Phoenix I've always known how important the fire department is especially living in Pittsburgh all those years with older structures that always catch fire 🚒 💯
I work as a volunteer with local fire service. We each work one day each month on weekends while the paid workers are enjoying the weekend.

Wearing bunker gear in the kitchen is a no-no. And I guarantee these guys arent RUNNING to the trucks when the camera is not rolling.
Why? They sit there waiting for a call, fully equipped and car is ready. All they have to do is jump in and start driving.

My friend drives an ambulance for FDNY, when he volunteers with me at my local EMS he's like a mad man on the suburban/rural roads.

My 2 Uncle's retired as Fire Fighters. Their house was always awake and ready for that call

Thanks too, to the people who run the fire garages, who keep the equipment running and take calls if something ceases to work at a fire.or on the roads. Same for the ambulance and police department garages. They are honorable jobs deserving of respect.

They used to teach fire safety in elementary school. The fire fighters always told us kids to not open doors if the fire is on the other side or to close the door to trap the fire and slow the its spread.
