star ocean 3 was kind of a disapointment. specially compared with its rival, tales of the abyss(or pretty much any tales of in that generation outside of legendia). the characters just did not hold up compared to 2(or even 1), and the overall story was also kinda meh. radiata story on the other hand was kinda divisive. its kinda like dark cloud 2, where its a good game no doubt, but it feels incomplete.
Unlike the RPGs on that list,... Monster Rancher 4 should be on the list for letting you play as the role of a monster breeder/raiser? It lets you be the person to raise monsters and have them fight in tournaments or go on expeditions to find items, etc. There's also an inventory system and stats system just like in almost all RPGs. In the MLB The Show games, you play the role of a baseball player of your choice(or of your own creation) with no real end goals except you can set your own goals, there's no inventory system but there are stats and stat progression mechanics. In some of the PS2 WWE games, you also got to play as the wrestler of your choice as well, albeit the story being scripted and therefore repetitive, but i believe all of the RPGs on your list also have a scripted and repetitive story. And speaking of stories, it's really annoying how in Wild Arms 3, you get to fight the same enemies/bosses over and over again in the story. Also, thanks for suggesting Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. i wouldn't have known about it otherwise. But lastly, i think everyone should check out MS Saga and Metal Saga. Not trying to be a contrarian, just pointing out other RPGs and RPG-esque games for anyone who's tired/bored with how too many games are so similar with each other.
the issue with MR4 is that its one of the weakest in the franchise. its too focused on the story, and has too many tutorials/forced fights that really killed the pacing. the setting was also another letdown. if anything, i would say 4 wasnt even as good as 3. as for MS Saga, im a massive gundam fan, but that game is so disapointing, extremely grindy, and the combat system is absurdly barebones. it also was too stuck with UC suits, and some random wing suits here and there. that kinda made it feel like there was no diversity. and while the idea of building your custom suit was great, like a proto gundam breaker, it just did not really deliver, since you didnt really get much of a choice, since each suit was basically tiered, and you were kinda forced to swap to the new stuff every new region. they could do so much with that, but really made it as barebones as they could, they banked too much on the gimmick of customizing your suit, but didnt really deliver it as well as they should. also, the story was absurdly generic. and the characters were too bland and one dimensional.

Shadow of collosus in (open world genre)GT 4 (racing genre) FF 12 (RPG genre) this is the best graphics ps2 games has in its time. while open world game with lots of task to do is GTA SA, and RE4 for 3rd person shooter genre in PS2's time.
i absolutely HATED shadow hearts. could not stand the QTE battle system. to this day, i dont think i have dropped a jrpg as fast as i did that game. it was an instant NOPE, for me. the funny thing is, i see ALOT of people complaining about action rpgs, and square doing more action today, but to me, i will take action over QTE turn based every single time. the only case of a jrpg that uses qte that i could actually stand, and even really liked, was vagrant story, the crit thing with squall in ff8 and the overdrives in ffx.
one thing I do hate about the ps2's lifespan is how much QTE stuff ps2 games did.I have learned to despise QTEs although I still like Legend of Dragoon, which feels like QTE as a combat system tbh. Sure we got the boulder punching moment from RE4, but at what cost?

I only played a few of these: Dark Cloud 2 (and 1), Shadow Hearts Covenant -- I'm actually midway through a new playthrough now, the party is currently in Japan -- Xenosaga 1-3 (and Xenogears besides), and FFX. I started with 7, and did Tactics, 8, 9, X, and X-2. Before i go on a rant here i just want to say that Suikoden is my all time favorite RPG series! Suikoden 3 was by far the worst of the series in my opinion tho, the whole attack in pairs was stupid, plus being able to easily damage and knockout your entire party with magic all because the guys want to run around the screen and reposition themselves right in your AoE for your spells. The only game in the series where your attack spells can kill you, and half the time you have no control over it becuase the AI is dumb. I dont hate the game, but it is my least favorite for those reasons.

Who in their right mind would like to accomulate exp and not use them just do could have half of them when u will die to a boss and start from begginning not to menssion that if u use too much of ur dragon form and get 100% its game over.
Drakengard is not worth playing. Look up all the spoilers and move on to the Nier series. Sometimes it's okay to call a game what it is: an inventive, frustrating, unfun, bloody mess. (And to be fair, by modern standards, Nier Automata is the only actually good game in the whole DrakeNier universe. Let's just hope it wasn't a fluke.) In fact, hate to be *that* guy, but most of these games are garbo until you get to around 12. The PS1 just had better RPGs, while the PS2 saw Sony focusing on competition, something which they didn't seem to really bother with too much during the PS1 days, which is probably why they had so many great and innovative RPGs.
Just say you don't like video games. It's fine. Not every game has to be a clone of what you personally enjoy. Thank God for that too, because you have awful taste in games. Keep your modern tastes to yourself.
Just because you determined a game to be unpopular in it's time, doesn't make it "great". Congratulations, you know rpg games that aren't Final Fantasy 7. Good for you. Also the fact that you include the word "cultured" in your channel name unironically is a huge red flag lol
Final Fantasy X shouldn't be on the list at all, much less at number one. First actively bad game in the series. Suikoden V would have been a far better representative of its series; SIII is just a mess. Persona 4 is better than 3 in most areas. Props for FFXII, though; that one is badly underappreciated.
Way better than most rpg's on the PS2 though, only games that are equal or greater are the Shadow Hearts and Kingdom Hearts series oh and XII ofc, even though its story was cut heavily.
@@icessoup I can name a slew of PS2 RPGs that are better than FFX. FFXII, Persona 3, Persona 4, Xenosaga trilogy, Suikoden IV, Suikoden V, heck, I'll even rank MS Saga over Final Fantasy X. FFX is a just plain awful game.
the developers actually went on record, it is pronounced "teedus" and NOT "tide us" just accept it. yes i agree "tide us" would make more sense but, it just isnt his name. also that game is over rated.

Let's just hope it wasn't a fluke.)
In fact, hate to be *that* guy, but most of these games are garbo until you get to around 12.
I hated FFX so much.
I just can't with the story and I reallh hate Tidus.
Damn these games are all the same...ether whack things with a sword or control party that takes turns whacking and blasting things.
???
Just because you determined a game to be unpopular in it's time, doesn't make it "great". Congratulations, you know rpg games that aren't Final Fantasy 7. Good for you. Also the fact that you include the word "cultured" in your channel name unironically is a huge red flag lol
hey sweetie when you say "rpg games" you're saying role-playing game...games
🤠👍👍
I wouldn't call 1/4 of these RPGs. They're more like dungeon crawlers
which are role-playing games
@@CulturedVultures about as much as platformers are, yeah
Tidus is Tedius.
Usually love your videos but this time you've included a few dodgy ones this go around 😢
@@1Tekkaman rogue galaxy, arc twilight of spirits
the developers actually went on record, it is pronounced "teedus" and NOT "tide us" just accept it. yes i agree "tide us" would make more sense but, it just isnt his name. also that game is over rated.
Nah only game that is better is Shadow Hearts and Kingdom Hearts
next time just dont talk at all
lmao get back to your big rock
@@CulturedVultures just my opinion. do you think the intro is necessary at all? people clicking on this video know what they are looking at you don't need to tell me this is going to be a video about ps2 games ...
