This list is pretty solid and fair. Now, I have been reading through alot of the comments on this video and people are saying they would more likely vote majority RPG games or the list is missing lots of RPG titles. However, you do have to remember the most popular games are the ones that are the most mainstream and appeal to the masses because many of the RPG's for PS1 are very rare especially mega man, clock tower, shadow tower, misadventures of tron bonne, and MM legends 1 and 2. Not everyone got to enjoy the RPG unless they were heavy fans or intentionally looking for the titles/genres.
I know this is your list (not mine, obviously), but knowing that you guys are also very fond of football (I'm Brazilian), I was hoping to see a game in this category (Pro Evolution Soccer 2, for example). But, of course, I respect your list.
Yes, love Football. I was never a fan of the Pro series, preferred Sensible Soccer ⚽️ I quite liked FIFA: Road to the World Cup. I know better now, the Pro Series rocks
Thanks For The Memories. When Gaming Was New Exciting & Fun…Just Pop In The Disc & Away You Play. No Internet, DLC’s, Multiplayer Etc. Still Got PS3 Favourite Console Still..👩🦳🙏🇬🇧👍
My Top 10 PS1 Games of all Time are 1. MGS1 2. RE2 3. CastleVania SOTN 4. FF7 5. FF9 6. Spyro 2 Ripto’s Rage 7. Crash Bandicoot Warped 8. Silent Hill 9. RE3 Nemesis 10. Dino Crisis 1 and 2
Some great picks here, especially Spider-Man, Destruction Derby, and Driver, which are often overlooked, but I can't condone leaving Spyro out and claiming that Vigilante 8 is better than Twisted Metal 2 (maybe if you listed the other games in the TM franchise, but not 2).
Spyro would make it on a different day. The beauty of the PS1 is that there’s so many great games, you can literally chop and change your opinion on a daily basis. You might be right on Twisted Metal 2, like I mentioned, it’s up to the player. Thanks for watching 👍
Ps1 came out when I was 14, I got a job in the school holidays to save for it and I got Aliens, broken sword, MK trilogy, and I'll never forget playing MGS and Resident Evil for the first time.

I have never played it. Thanks for the recommendation though. I’m finding games I never played or knew about at an alarming rate. Back then my budget only stretched so far ☺️
Nice to see Silent Hill on here. It's still my favorite of the series (and I played the first three again a few years ago) but it gets overshadowed by the second game I think in part because a lot of people played that one first and came back to the original with expectations of a similar type of story. I think the story of the first game is actually more disturbing and crazy than the second one because the second one is much more of a character study. The music in the first game is more unsettling too. If I made a top 20 PS1 list it would be very RPG heavy, ha ha. But I would also fit MGS, RE2, SH, and probably SOTN in there. And I really do like OG Tomb Raider a lot. It was always clunky to control but I think the exploratory level design and atmosphere (aided by wonderful snippets of music) is still good. Thing is though, for more action-oriented titles like platformers, wrestling games, and FPS games, I mostly got my fix on the N64 back then. It's very possible that I never quite gave the PS1 its due in that area as a result.
I can’t disagree with anything you’ve said. On a different day the list gets turned on it’s head, there’s way too many classics to try and break things down to a small list. Silent Hill is a fantastic experience, still is, as you say it’s more unsettling. I’m more old stamp JRPG’s, but even then it all depends on the game. I had the N64 as well, but nothing in the N64 touched Smackdown IMPHO.
Welcome and thanks for watching 🤗 Fantastic game! Amazing what was achieved back then 👍🏻 I know it was a long time ago now, but can you recall, share any trivia with us about the development or other games you worked on. FX Fighter was one of yours wasn’t it?
That's a very strange list. It's universally understood that PS1 racing games look horrible. The games that typically hold up the best are 2D games and ones with rendered backgrounds. Castlevania SOTN, RE2, RE3, etc.
And yet people contact me saying and I quote “what a great list”. 🤷🏻♂️ PS1 racing games, Ridge Racer series, GT series are universally considered some of the best of their genre.
@@ClassicReplay Whoever said it's a good list is confused by their nostalgia for those games. Racing games do not look good on the PS1. They just don't, bro.
Crash Bandicoot - You're playing it wrong. Don't you know that you're not supposed to be careful and avoid enemies while picking up everything? You're supposed to run through the levels as fast as possible, smashing into enemies and missing half the pickups. ;) Spider-Man - The controls annoy the hell out of me. The fact that you can only turn in 45 degree increments means that you can never properly line up jumps, or run along narrow platforms without falling off. I managed to complete the game on Windows despite a bunch of bugs, but I rage quit the challenge mode and never went back to it. The section late in the game that has you going through a corridor without touching the floor had me screaming at the screen in frustration. My recommendations; NASCAR Rumble - Other than the cars, it doesn't really have anything to do with NASCAR. It has a large number of cars and tracks, powerups (that can be turned off), shortcuts, big jumps, crashes. It's probably the closest thing to a Burnout game you'll find on the PS1. Rival Schools - Anime inspired fighting game. Large cast of characters, tag team action and over the top moves. Spyro the Dragon - Enjoyable platformer. One of the most impressive features is that there's no fog. It has quite a long draw distance and even then, things that are too far away to see realistically come into view as you get closer to them. Tiny Tank - Unique little shooter where you guide a robot tank around the landscape and destroy enemies. It's cute, but not in an obnoxious way.
Thanks for leaving a comment, NASCAR Rumble is a fantastic game, had lots of fun with that one. I suspect not many people realised the style of game and passed it by thinking “not another NASCAR game”. I see where you’re coming from with your other comments as well, but can’t agree with you about Spider-Man 👍
@@ClassicReplay Whenever I'd try to line up a jump or web swing in Spider-Man, I could never get it perfect, it would always be off to the left or the right. Then I'd have to change direction in the middle of the swing, usually multiple times because first it would go too far to the left, then too far to the right, etc. This was especially troublesome when trying to land on a smaller target, like the top of the crane to see the Easter egg. When on the building that was under construction, I kept falling off the beams. Also, a lot of times, I had trouble going up to enemies and hitting them, because he wouldn't be facing them. I also missed throwing stuff at enemies quite a lot. Oh, and the cutscene in the middle of the Catch Venom level that seems to screw up on most every system and either leave you stuck in the opening, have you swing to the wrong building, or just fall to your death. I will admit that I do have a bit of a sore spot for this game because of how many problems the Windows version had (which Activision knew about and never patched). It crashed quite often, sometimes the controls just stopped working for several seconds, and I had to delete the prefs, then reconfigure the controls each time I ran it, or the game would start in EXTREME slow-motion.
On the PS1 where I played it the most, then later on the Dreamcast (surprisingly not as fluid). It was a great experience, camera angle is always and issue with these early 3D games, same with Tomb Raider. But I just remember having a whale of a time with one of my favourite superheroes.
@@ClassicReplay I actually don't mind the camera in Tomb Raider. If you imagine that the camera is attached to the back of Lara's head with a flexible pole, its movement becomes almost entirely predictable. If there's enough room, it's straight behind her, but if not, it bends off to the side. And there's always the Look button. I actually hate third person games where the camera and the character turn independently of each other. In Max Payne and Jedi Academy (Windows), the mouse controls both the camera and the character, making it easy to strafe and shoot enemies while running backwards. More modern games make you use a lock-on system to make up for the fact that while the camera might be looking at an enemy, your character may have their back turned to said enemy. Also, the camera tends to be equally as useless in cramped areas as the old Tomb Raider camera.
Great list. I never got into beat em ups or fighting games and I never got into console RPGs. But, I'm going to give them a go and see if I have some fun.

I can’t believe your number 1 pick is a wrestling game and obviously you like racing games quite a bit. All I can say is my list would be quite a bit different, but it doesn’t matter. I love old JRPGs and that makes the PS1 my favorite console of all time probably.
WORST thing about the game Driver... completing a slew of car trick BEFORE you can even play a second of the game... if you can't do it YOU CAN'T PLAY the game!!

I agree with a couple of games on this list such as THPS and Tekken 3. Honestly, I still play THPS for PS1 til this day, it is one game that I enjoy and never get tired of and always have a blast playing. I even like it better than THPS 2,3, and 4 ( even though these games are still fun). I read in one magazine to where the greatest PS1 game of all time was Castlevania. I also enjoyed GT 2
THPS 1+2 is a lot more enjoyable on ps1 then on the PS4 remake. PS4 looks great but the handling is horrible and sluggish . Doesn’t feel anything like the original.
Wip3out is the best looking ps1 game. And has one of the best soundtracks. Tomb raider 1-2-3-4 also have stood time well. Soul reaver too. Gran turismo 1-2. FFVII,VIII AND IX.
I played on ps1 maybe for a year or two only before I got my first serious PC, but I feel like most of the games I played were really great and enjoyable. I don`t wanna verify that tho...
Regional differences The game was originally released in Japan on two discs. When the game finally got a western release, it was only on one disc and the game was now heavily edited. Changes include: * The 52 missions of the Japanese version have been reduced to 36 missions in the Western release * Removed story content and branching storylines of the Japanese version and became a more linear affair with the majority of the story content gutted in the Western version. Since the branching storylines are missing, it also caused the multiple endings to be removed. * Removed anime cutscenes * Removed characters * Removed voice acting

I can’t recall if I’ve played those. I probably have but memory fading 🤣
I love the reverence in your voice.
I prefer JRPGs but old skool. Thanks for the kind words and insight, I agree 👍
Winning eleven masterpiece and NBA live
Great list but how did duke nukem and die hard escape it??
Never played Die Hard Escape on PlayStation, Duke Nukem is better elsewhere, but would definitely get into my top 40 mind.
Thanks For The Memories. When Gaming Was New Exciting & Fun…Just Pop In The Disc & Away You Play. No Internet, DLC’s, Multiplayer Etc. Still Got PS3 Favourite Console Still..👩🦳🙏🇬🇧👍
The PS3 is still in use sitting nicely under my tv. Have some amazing games, especially retro and play Daytona USA and Outrun on a regular basis.
Nice to see Vigilante 8 getting some love for a change.

7. Crash Bandicoot Warped
8. Silent Hill
9. RE3 Nemesis
10. Dino Crisis 1 and 2
PlayStation the best console ever
🔝🙏🏻❤️
You'll get lynched using that language 😝
Sega mega drive also great
Some great picks here, especially Spider-Man, Destruction Derby, and Driver, which are often overlooked, but I can't condone leaving Spyro out and claiming that Vigilante 8 is better than Twisted Metal 2 (maybe if you listed the other games in the TM franchise, but not 2).
Spyro would make it on a different day. The beauty of the PS1 is that there’s so many great games, you can literally chop and change your opinion on a daily basis. You might be right on Twisted Metal 2, like I mentioned, it’s up to the player. Thanks for watching 👍
V8>TM!
Rouge Trip: Vacation 2012 was the best PS1 car combat game
@@GungeonLover Since that was made by the developers of TM2, I'd accept that.
I’m not sure about the best, but just had a go and happy to report I had fun 🤩
You named some real bangers 💯I noted some too, Thanks 👍
The FoxKids logo on the PS1 controller.. I used to watch that all the time.. Good times..
Thanks for stopping by to watch my vid. Lovely comments. Currently working on a new vid about SEGA. Once I've finished that, back to PlayStation ;-)
Ps1 came out when I was 14, I got a job in the school holidays to save for it and I got Aliens, broken sword, MK trilogy, and I'll never forget playing MGS and Resident Evil for the first time.
My god that must have been an amazing time, experiencing all those games.
@@ClassicReplay it was and I was a child playing Mario and sonic, 80s 90s were a great time. But I'm enjoying all these games again on my steam deck.

I gotta say. I really dig your style. Intelligence is felt. Interesting indeed. Jokes funny, presentation great. Keep doing your thing, hopefully views, subs rack up a bit.
Awesome! Thank you!
Legend of dragoon was one of the best jrpgs on the ps1 imo
after 25 years, I still can't beat the Driver tutorial mission :(
You mean at the beginning of the game?
you have to add colony wars red sun to your list
I have never played it. Thanks for the recommendation though. I’m finding games I never played or knew about at an alarming rate. Back then my budget only stretched so far ☺️
@@ClassicReplay it was one of the best space shooters - go anywhere no rails
@silverbackhc a bit like Elite, I will check out 👍🏻
Mortal Kombat 3 was awesome on the PS1. It was like having the arcade machine in my home.
Have you tried the new Mortal Kombat? Also UMK3 was amazing but can’t recall if that came out on the PS1
@@ClassicReplay oh yes, I've got MK11 on my Deck too. I just love the original ones as well. I generally play the arcade MK series on MAME.
I had the N64 as well, but nothing in the N64 touched Smackdown IMPHO.
thanks good memories of my teens there,
Happy to be of service ;-)
GT 2 great game too
I loved a ton of these. One i was waiting on was Jet Moto.
Which Jet Moto 😉
How Twisted metal and spyro not in the list?
Great games!
Hey! What voice gen do you use for your videos? I'd really like to know! Cheers
Haha! You joker you
I thought the wrestling game at the end was going to be a joke, but the joke never ended.
Here’s a joke for you. Opinions are like bum holes, we all have one 😉
Happy to see Alien in the list. We put a lot of effort into making it.
Let’s agree to disagree and move on 👍🏻
@@CC.DeVilleGran Turismo 2?
@@Matheus_Piter OMG YES
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
DOOM & DOOM 2 on the same disk.....
Crash Bandicoot - You're playing it wrong. Don't you know that you're not supposed to be careful and avoid enemies while picking up everything? You're supposed to run through the levels as fast as possible, smashing into enemies and missing half the pickups. ;)
Spider-Man - The controls annoy the hell out of me.
My recommendations;
NASCAR Rumble - Other than the cars, it doesn't really have anything to do with NASCAR.
Never too late ;-)
If ur looking for a jrpg I'm playing through the first lunar game rn called lunar silver star harmany for ps1. And its friggin amazing! Has voice acting and full anime cutscenes! I'm about 3/4 way through and having a blast
Resident evil 2 was terrifying 😂😂😂

I can’t believe your number 1 pick is a wrestling game and obviously you like racing games quite a bit. All I can say is my list would be quite a bit different, but it doesn’t matter. I love old JRPGs and that makes the PS1 my favorite console of all time probably.
Do share your list please, intrigued. Yes I love racing games, fighting games and shmups. I also love old stamp JRPGs.
did you play Suikoden?
WORST thing about the game Driver... completing a slew of car trick BEFORE you can even play a second of the game... if you can't do it YOU CAN'T PLAY the game!!
Yep, that sucked. But you actually needed that training to win at the game. They shouldn't have forced it though. Plus there's lots of cheats to skip it ;-)
Vigilante and Twisted Metal best couch coop games
sotn was amazing when you where told : theres a whole second castle...
and you went: excuse me what????
i know i did :D also diablo is kind of a gem. i still remember playing it at midnight and being scared absolutely shitless.
until i finally reached the last levels. and u had those succubi? or something. and my mom was pissed thinking i was playing 18+ games at midnight underaged :D
I loved playing Metal gear solid in the tuxedo 😊
Easily the best James Bond game that never was ;-)
Totally agree with everything you said about THPS compared to THPS2!
It’s good to know I’m not on my own 😉
awsome video. tekken 3 damn.... i played that for so many hours!! also micro machines v3 was pretty cool and soulblade

So many good games, so many successful games and franchises came out of this console.

Massively underrated, first wrestling game to draw me in and keep me hooked.
I avoided Alien Resurrection because the movie was so bad. Maybe I'll give it a shot
You really like racing/car games eh hahaha that’s fine
There's a good mix ;-)
You never played RC De Go? I think based on your list that you would love it! RC Pro Am meets Gran Turismo...
I did play it a lot, good game. Shame it didn’t have two player.
Grew up on Nintendo, now I'm building my digital collection and it's time to play the better versions of all those N64 games lol
Don't forget to check out my N64 vid. Not all games were better on other systems. th-cam.com/video/u4Ot882PSbY/w-d-xo.html

Grand turismo is still my favourite have it on the ps1 ps2 ps3 psp 😊
I was pleasantly surprised with the PSP version. I’d have played it sooner if not for the critics giving it average reviews.
What a great list!
The 2d games have aged well
It turns out the PS1 was a 2D powerhouse after all
Resident evil gun shop owner be sounding like Neil degrassi 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's funny, I love replaying Silent Hill, but I can not replay Resident Evil 2, the controls are so hard to deal with.
I know exactly what you mean. But once you get back into it, hard to put down. But what about Silent Hill 2 oh my days!
You forgot:
Loaded
Darkstalkers
Marvel vs. Street fighter
Clock Tower
Twisted Metal 2
Tenchu
Bloody Roar
Oddworld
MegaMan X4
Need for speed 3
That list just shows how good the PS1 is, you could do another list and argue that was the best
Bloody Roar was good for its time, but the gameplay is very dated for today standard. It peaked in Bloody Roar 2 and then go down hill after that.
Wip3out is the best looking ps1 game. And has one of the best soundtracks. Tomb raider 1-2-3-4 also have stood time well. Soul reaver too. Gran turismo 1-2. FFVII,VIII AND IX.
Wipeout 3 Special Edition is off the charts 📊

For confirmation, I can verify they were great 😊
Ace Combat 3 electrosphere is probably the best Ace Combat game in the entire series of!
Regional differences
The game was originally released in Japan on two discs.
