Can You Beat Fallout Brotherhood of Steel Without Wanting To Die? (in text form)
The opening cinematic, aside from the metal music playing in place of the 1950s music the franchise is known for, actually does a solid job of setting the stage for a Fallout game. Then come the decisions, which difficulty to play on and which character to play as. I chose the easiest option to wake up from this nightmare as quickly as possible and went with Cyrus as my character because he seemed like the one who would be able to take the most damage. The backstory is vague at best: you’re a Brotherhood Initiate who’s looking for missing Paladins, and that’s it. It was abundantly clear what audience this game was catering to when the leader of the Raiders was a woman in heels wearing next to nothing and dual-wielding pistols.
After talking to a nearby entertainer and asking her about the men in big metal armor, I went inside the bar to investigate. Here I got into combat for the first time. There’s actually a lot of thought that goes into combat, you can punch people, or, you can punch people. Yeah, that’s it. You literally have one form of attack, the X button. There’s no block, no light attack, no heavy attack, just attack. You have a chance at landing a critical shot that does more damage and you can use different weapons, but that’s it. Brotherhood of Steel is a 15 year old game, but come on, this is garbage by any standard.
Once the raiders were defeated, I informed Armpit and he told me to talk the the Mayor. I also leveled up. Believe it or not, there is some customization available in this game. There are skills that are admittedly pretty generic across the board, but it’s better than nothing. What’s really truly incredible is that this game has more armor customization than Fallout 3. The slots are: Head, Body, Gloves, and Boots. In Fallout 3, you’ve got Body Armor, Headwear, and Glasses.

That happened to me with Resident Evil: Gun Survivor, beat it on my first playthrough without dying, in 2 hours. Said to myself "Holy shit! Good thing I didn't buy it!"
I was the loser that bought it…. It still sucks when I tried to play it again a few years ago. My PS2 gave me the finger and died during the play.

I played the hell out of this in Iraq with a friend while deployed. It was awesome at the time, but probably because we literally had nothing else to do other than military stuff. Also, the arena is key to getting stupid powerful. If I remember right you end up with power armor and a plasma rifle when you max out the arena.

How can one of the character choices be a ghoul if they’re brotherhood initiates? I thought the brotherhood despised ghouls.

The different chapters have different values if I remember right. I think the Chicago Chapter was the most open and accepting because they needed more manpower. And I think the West Coast Chapter was the least accepting. The Fallout Tactics game explains it a bit more.
Some chapters of the brotherhood are more liberal than others. In Fallout Tactics its a plot point that you can allow for the recruitment of ghouls and mutants, but a number of hardliners in the chapter are very unhappy with it.
The original brotherhood in FO1 was definitely xenophobic against super mutants but I don’t remember them ever hating on ghouls or really even interacting with them.
In FO2 they were extremely minor and barely interact with literally anything besides the player and the Enclave.
But it’s not entirely out of character for the Brotherhood to take on capable recruits regardless of their source, considering Fallout 1’s glow quest. I could see ghouls being allowed by a more liberally openminded or even just a more desperate group.
Fallout 4’s Maxson was the one who REALLY got xenophobic ultranationalist vibes going.
Depends on the chapter the Midwest brotherhood was in tactics and if you played your cards right you can actually recruit death claws as in previous games they had human level intelligence and we're actually quite friendly.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing at first. I actually did play this back when it came out though. It was a cheap Diablo clone in the Fallout universe during the general time period of Diablo 2. It wasn't horrible, but it was obviously a clone. Aside from entertainment, a lot of his criticisms come from either forgetting or never having properly experienced the period.
i enjoyed tactics. nothing quite like lining up your soldiers at a corner and obliterating a super mutant with 5 .50 Cals. or glitching the game during the rescue elders mission and getting more soldiers than the cap, which I then used to crew my SHERMAN TANK while my actual squad acted as escorts. if they released a fallout tactics game patterned off of xcom 2 or phoenix point I would be ecstatic

There was a thing about video games made in the blockbuster era, where quests would *deliberately* be made obnoxiously long and grindy, because they were actually designed for the rental market. So you would struggle to finish the game in a few days by design as It would force you to rent it a second time if you want to finish the game.
Reminds of how old NES games were too short so developers just made them MUCH harder because replaying the first 2 levels for 3 days equals more content, apparently...

I can't think of many spin-offs that would be worse introductions to a game series than this. Closest I can come up with off the top of my head would be Special Forces being your first Mortal Kombat, and even that isn't nearly as bad as BoS.

@@AS34N In the dialog box just before the part I loosely quoted, it says to do the opposite (hit the claws with melee so he won't parry your bullets). Cut to him shooting the claws and explaining he does this so it won't parry his melee attacks.

I mean, to be fair, Fallout 3 was a disappointment to a lot of people too. I personally loved it, but I hadn't played Fallout 1 and 2 at the time. I imagine if I was a huge fan of the turn based slow gameplay that Fallout 1 and 2 had, I'd have been disappointed with the more action oriented gameplay of 3.

As soon as I saw the play 1 play 2 menu I thought dark alliance. Once the skills menu came up that cemented the same game different skin.

Video idea: “Can you beat fallout (Fallout 3, NV or 4) as a hoarder?” Meaning everything you pick up you can’t get rid of or sell and every body or chest you loot you take all.
I mean, I beat every rpg I play that way. Ooh shiny, must loot and keep. It might have literally no use aside from selling it, but I'm still gonna throw it into my dragon's horde of a stash.
This is a good idea but it could be accomplished by just picking stuff up you need like ammo and stimpaks, and only taking 2 or 3 weapons, doing this on hardcore could be a fun challenge though.
I think an over encumbered walkthrough would be neat!
Or beat fallout nv ovencumbered in less then 2 hours glitchs alowed
It's easy with F4, since you can run while overencumbered with enough strong back levels. And drugs resolve the AP issue.

It wasn't a great game, but it was very much in style at the time. Diablo was basically the same thing. It just happened to be first. This game just tried to capitalize on it. There were a lot of games in this vein at that point.

That was legit one of my favorites games when I was a child, when played in coop.
There is a HUGE difference between a solo and coop experience on this game, you should try it!
Making the other dude fall in a hole when he tries to jump across by moving the camera just by walking the other way, fighting for loot like your life depends on it, burying a nuclear warhead to make it explode by your dog stepping on it to see his body fly across the map...
This game is pure gold!

I can see this game as a decent co-op game that you can play for a few hours tops
But that doesn't mean its a good game, they should've never released it if was this bad in singleplayer (or they should've just made it co-op only)

Imo,THE big bad thing in this game is when you lock on an ennemy, the whole screen turn to make you face him and you go to spinning hell.
Without that, I think it would be somewhat "not bad" in a solo run, not more tho

This reminds me of the games Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2 (I know that all of them were made by the same company) which I would say are much better games:
1. Every character gets a mana bar so combat is more then just swing sword or shoot bow. Plus the weapon combat in D&D is usually simple so the only thing that's different is that it is real-time instead of turn-based and the mana bar.
2. For the second game, every character has their own personal questline so it feels like they have some personality to them.
3. Besides the cellar in the first game, I don't remember having to run through an area killing everything. If I did I didn't notice it.
4. The level design is much better, I don't ever remember getting lost in any level.
5. The games try to have a story, whether they succeed or not is up to you. This Fallout game doesn't even sound like it is trying.
TLDR: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2 seem to at least have some effect put into them. This Fallout game doesn't even look like it's trying.
He did leave out the part where Attis is going to use the FEV here to make super mutants capable of breeding, which imo was a neat plot point.
Game still bad tho.
I love both of baldurs gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2 and the story was good and they are one of the reasons why I still have not sold my ps2

it uses the same Snowblind Engine. there was a whole lawsuit for using it illegally to make this game and Dark Alliance 2
Personally I think Champions of Norath is better than BG:DA because I like the settings and character classes more and I still remember the cheat code to instantly get yourself to level 20 (L1+R2+Triangle+R3) so its definitely stuck in my mind more.

I tried playing that game when it came on game pass but just gave up on it. Gameplay was just boring and tedious.
I enjoyed the game it felt like a good rpg and once you know how to play it then you can easily become a knight in shining armour

Having played both, I can safely say that Fallout 76 is still too good to be compared to brotherhood of steel.

Who made Dark Alliance?
It was made using the dark alliance engine, and it was made by the same people who made dark alliance (along with the original fallout 1 and 2). They wanted to make an actual fallout 3, but their publishers forced them to make this instead, so that they would have a console fallout game.
I thought that as soon as the gameplay started, the camera, the menus the combat is all the same, but dark alliance was a great game

just finished this game yesterday on wastelander difficulty and i have to say, it definitely did some permanent damage to my brain. did it for nostalgia cause me and my brother use to play it a long time ago.
