This is by far the best review of any compact camera I have seen on TH-cam. The reason: your explanations are clear, concise, terse and intelligent. This is an object lesson to most other reviewers who let themselves get in the way of the review, or who do not properly demonstrate what they are talking about. Congratulations - and by the way, it's a great little camera!

@@TheyCallMeJesse I would suggest manual for blogging, as the distance from camera to you is fairly constant. If you need auto focus use continuous, with a single spot placed on your face. That way when the face detect fails, it defaults to the spot and not the background.

I just purchased an LX 10. This was a highly useful overview. Thank you! UPDATE: Four months later I found myself reviewing this video again to help me understand the more advanced camera features. Panasonic should use this as their trading video. Well done!
@@MaartenHeilbron I agree with C. Johnson, I have come back and visited this video a few times in the last 6 months. I purchased this last September and I absolutely love this camera. It has replaced all my other cameras and I find that I may become a Lumix user.. Thank you for the very clear, concise and easy to understand review and overview.
This is what I love about Panasonic. PACKED with features!!!! Have been looking at all brands for my next camera but I think I’d really miss a lot of these features if I switched. Even grabbing a frame of video as a still is so easy on my current pocket Lumix and I use that quite a lot. FANTASTIC thorough review!
Now, THAT was a REALLY useful review! In fact, the ONLY one I found so far that let me find out if I'm going to like the operation or not. And I got a decent understanding of what the camera can do by SEEING it, instead of imagining it from a mere description. Thank you for that!
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated. That is exactly what I mean to do - to give you a sense of what it's like to use the camera as well as what its features are.
What a fantastic review. Love that you START by diving right into what it looks and sounds like rather than spending a lot of time baiting us for the rest of the video or diving right into the technical. At the end of the day, the first thing I want to know is a) does it look good and b) does it sound good. AFTER that, if I'm still interested, I'll want the tech specs, menu dives, etc... which is exactly what you did. If this camera were just a little less expensive, I'd jump on it as a replacement for my amazing Canon S120, but given the quality and features, I suspect it will stay up in that range.
Wow, excellent review and detailed information! Thank you! One question, what is the best way to utilize the 5 axis stabilizer for videos (no stabilizer in 4K video mode?) and why are there two options for the stabilizer?
I appreciate the kind words, thank you! Sorry, should have mentioned that. Normal is both (for both stills and video) Panning is so that there's no odd stabilizing effect as you pan left and right - useful for video. Hope this helps.
This is by far the best review and also the best quick user guide for Panasonic LX10. I actually learned much more about my camera watching your video then reading through the factory manual. Thank you so much!
This is why I love Lumix Panasonic. They offer cameras jammed packed with features at a very affordable price. I will be picking up this camera in the future to compliment my Lumix G9. Great video!
Thanks Marteen, your knowledge, presentation and humor is much appreciated. Your archives are a huge help and will remain so for future photographers as long as these devices keep working. I don't think I'll be able to pick out jpgs from 1" vs. MFT (or newer smartphone magic) consistently in a blind test. Not sure it matters either. Having tested the ZV-1 this summer it's peculiar to end up here and find the same point and shoot hall of fame still unmatched, most of them seem to be at least five years old now: LX10, LX100 (II), ZS/TZ100/200, RX100, GX 5/7 II/III - is that all? The same basic challenge re. image quality, handling, features remains to this day. As I commented on Hugh Brownstone's (3bmep) LX100 II review there isn't really anything else like it and even the smallest MFT or APSC combos will never be as compact nor with a better spec'd control surface. Leica renewed it this spring as D Lux 8 as you're probably already aware. Your excellent RX100 series demonstrates a related hard fact, one may add a grip and then figure out how to setup the front ring and the tiny buttons and/or touchscreen as preferred. I've tested something similar on the TZ100 now and it's doable though not entirely pleasant but miraculously (decent +200mm collapsible zoom!) it fits more or less any pocket ever made. I was also glad to learn that a fixed LCD isn't that much worse in practical use. Millions of photographers before us seems to agree :) I'm curious to try out the LX10 one day, they are quite rare around here now so it may never happen. Shame about the mic jack and HDMI limitations, even the TZ100 feeds live view (not clean, but almost). I'll probably end with a RX100 VII, they are steady at €1000-ish on MPB to this day, not sure why Sony abandoned that series.
Hello Maarten. Thank you for the very detailed and comprehensive review. I just purchased this camera and I am the epitome of the word, novice, when it comes to photography. Your video will be a reference for me!
Wow! Awesome camera. I expect mine to arrive today and your video shows it can do way more than I was expecting. I may end up retiring my other cameras, of which I have plenty. Thanks for a very detailed and clear review.
I've noticed the same thing about the ISO control. What were they thinking labeling it as Sensitivity and having the rest of ISO menu option in a completely different menu area. Also, i wish there was a physical button that allows me to go from auto and manual focus. Again, great video!
There are many cameras with a physical manual/auto switch - but they must feel that the target market for this camera doesn't want that. Not sure why there are two focus control points though ...
Subscribed! So glad i found your channel. It is by far, the most detailed and meticulous in discussing LX10 features. Absolutely very helpful for a noon like myself. Thank you so much, Maarten!
Such kind words, and coming from such a respected source. Thank you very much! Yes, the screen flips up for vlogging, as detailed and demonstrated at th-cam.com/video/S-LaPUbOEjA/w-d-xo.html
Ha. Apology accepted. I know what sticklers you people of Dutch heritage are. I'm sure it hurt you deeply. None-the-less. I was looking at this camera and now I don't need a manual. I have you.
What a fantastic review of all the features that can help decide whether or not to consider a camera. Awesome! Like many before me have said - clear, concise, focussed, and in a soothing, reassuring voice. This sets the benchmark for product reviews. One query: The FZ300 has in its flash menu the ability to wirelessly control an off camera flash. Does this have it to? I'm not expecting it in this camera segment, but would be great to have considering there is no hotshoe.
A very nicely in depth look. I wonder when manufacturers will start to add mic ports or usb to mic adapters? Especially given how much longer models with that feature can command full price and how much longer they hold their initial value on the resale market, which might sway some buyers as much as the port itself?
Thank you once again sir for another magnificent pro level review. Absolutely the most technical, accurate, complete and informative reviews available.... thank you so very much.
Great review as always! I was wondering if you plan on doing an in dept review of the FZ2500? I know most people are focused on the GH5 or G85, but the FZ2500 has a few video features that for some reason the G85 didn't get. My only concern is the 1" sensor.
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated. It's not on my to-do list, (which already looks pretty busy for the next few weeks) but I'll keep it in mind. I was concerned about the one inch sensor at first too, but I've since used many cameras with that sensor and been very pleased with the images - some of my favourites, some printed to 60x90cm.
hi sir! super like always! i was wonderingif you would give me an advice! i am in doubt if buy this panasonic or the canon g7x mark 2.. whic one in your opinion is better for image quality, autofocus ,low light and raw processing in camera( if there is a larger difference beween the two) ( 4k is great but is not the most important thing for me) thank you a lot!
Unless you already see a difference based on some feature you'd like to have, I'd judge them as fairly equal, and if 4K is not important I'd suggest you let your wallet and your brand preference be your guide.
Hello. Thanks for the review. I am deciding between this and the G7x II. I read that the G7x has quality issues but it has a 4x zoom. I was wondering if the 3x zoom is good enough for portraits? I just want to take ordinary portraits, nothing fancy or professional.
Just discovered your channel and instantly subscribed. Best detailed reviews on cameras that I've ever seen. Could you suggest me best budget camera for travel and leisure? Should I get LX10 or G7, or any better suggestion perhaps?
Maarten Heilbron Thank you very much. I'll look into it. My budget is around $700+, after conversion though. I live in Malaysia. Any other suggestions that I should look into?
dear Maarten.. tQ for ur in-depth review of the functions of the LX-10 .. if i were to buy the LX-10, i will feel safe knowing that there is NO function that i would miss + not knowing how to use them. Lastly, i feel via seeing how knowledgable u r of the LX-10, it is as though u designed the camera. again tQ. Cheers. p/s 1st time an in-depth that is NOT boring..
I’m currently deciding whether to add to my camera collection. I’m enjoying creating photo diaries of my children’s lives. I have a fuji x70. Colours are amazing and so is the picture quality. Focus can be a little iffy. Don’t really want a mirror less camera. So deciding between the LX10/15, LX100 and G7xii. Currently swaying to the LX100 because of the larger sensor. Tough decisions
Always my pleasure, thanks for the kind words. It does not have a built in ND (sadly - always useful for video). I likely won't be doing the FZ2500 - there's just not enough time for me to do everything. Sorry.
Great video explaining the features - I’ve been able to turn on CNED CineLike D using the web browser hack - I also use the video in in camera mode A mode which you can lock down the shutter speed using flicker reduction
Hello Maarten, which camera is better to photograph with, the Canon g7x mark 2 or the Panasonic LX10? I would like to start with photography. Thanks already!
First of all, a nice and very thorough review. Do you have an idea if this camera is compatible with a UHS-II sd card? If so is it then capable of emptying its buffer faster? ( SANDISK EXTREME PRO SD UHS-II CARD)
This is the best review I’ve seen on this camera , I’m trying to buy a new camera and I’m considering the lx10 or ZS100, I want to take photos of my newborn son I purchased a sz70 and it was disappointing , indoor pictures is low quality . Before I had Sony hx60v but the flash stopped working and I don’t prefer buy it’s new model from Sony. Do u think the lx10 is good choice for indoor with low light conditions can you recommend a camera around 600 usd that suitable 4 me please?
Thank you for your kind words, appreciated. You can download the manual from Panasonic's web site. In fact, I recommend you do this before purchasing. It's amazing how much good information and insight is in the manual.
Excellent review Martin! Question: I have the LX10 and, on aperture priority mode (A), I'm not able to adjust the aperture value by using the rear dial. I can only ajust it using the aperture ring. Is that OK? I thought I could use both. Thanks.
Thank you for your kind words. Answer: Yes, that's the design - there's not even a customization possible to use the rear dial for aperture. Of course, traditionally, there would be a (marked) aperture ring on the lens.
Thanks for your prompt answer Maarten, I really appreciate you have the time to do it. Regarding the LX10 I'm a bit dissappointed I can not configure that dial. Anyway I'm looking for a new camera with a better image quality than the lx10. Which one you recommend for street & family indoor photography with practically the same portabiliy of the lx10? I'm becoming a fan of your reviews!!! Keep doing them!
Yes, Fuji has several options. Do you think I could see an improvement in the image quality (mostly on .jpg) between the lx10 and a Fuji X70, for example?
Well, you'd have to look elsewhere for detailed comparisons (dpreview, CNet) but in my view the larger sensor and Fuji's better than average lens quality would improve image quality.
Excellent review! Thank you for all the detail! I keep struggling trying to decide between this and the Sony RX100 MV. I saw another review where the camera seems to struggle with the AF, even though it was set on a fixed tripod and the subject wasn't moving around. The image blurs often and it's distracting... I'm wondering if there's any manual setting that will compensate that.
Love your video and explanation, wish I saw more photography shots at the F 2.8. I bought this camera last night and did not check if taking waterfalls will be a problem. Do you know if I could attach a Gradient ND filter to it? I was a bit worried because of the amount of light coming into the camera. Any recommendations you can offer?
nice review! would you be confident of saying this would be your choice for a traveling camera when focused on video recording? compared to lumix lx100 and sony rx100-V
Thanks. But with the look at the size and the comfortability of the camera. At the moment I have the Sony RX-100 I. Until now it did quite a good job for me. But I want a camera that can record in 4k, so I'm considering one of those mentioned. I guess the GX850 might be the best camera, but always carrying the lenses is a killer for me. At my travels I was was used to take the camera in my pants pocket which made me pretty fast in preparation of taking videos and photos. So the question should be: which camera in compact camera size would you recommend? I would tend to the LX 100 because of the big four thirds sensor but i don't like the accessory flash which you have to install first.
how about this one ( lx10) compare with panasonic lx100 ? I'm really confused...I just keen on street photography and some low light situations. Which one is better for images ? Thank you
Not sure without testing - it seems that the larger sensor of the LX100 should give it the advantage, although the slightly better aperture and higher resolution of the LX10 tilts the advantage back. I'd probably take the LX100.
Hello Maarten, awesome review as always! this new Panasonic looks fabulous! I'm looking for a replacement for my old rx100m1 and my budget stretches up to the rx100m3 - lx10 price range. I don't shoot video, I'm only a landscape photography guy. I loved the super sharp lens of the original rx100 and I wonder if the new lx10 can beat the m3 in this aspect . I'd love to hear your advice ! thank you !
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated. I don't really have the equipment to test lens sharpness - dpreview usually provides this kind of information. The advantage that the RX100m3 offers is the viewfinder. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the great video, I'm thinking of getting this as an upgrade from my Lumix TZ35. One feature I like on the TZ35 is the ability to take photos while recording a video, it is limited to 2 pictures on my camera, but its a nice feature, does the LX15 have the same option?
Thanks for your quick reply. I might get this camera. it's mostly for travel so has to fit in the pocket, and would like to have good low light images. Keep up the good work.
Hello, what about the length of video clips in HD and FullHD? Can one of these modes record video until the REC button is pressed? Or all the video modes record only 15 min or 29 min 59 sec? Thanks
I want to upgrade from iPhone to learn about photography to shoot manual, I like the aperture ring on this camera but not sure if this is a great camera for that purpose, was plan to get XE3 with 16-55mm F2.8 but the best camera is the one with you, so I guess this is a great camera for that purpose too since its small, has aperture ring and should be great quality and has zoom lens, right? How about the 24mm wide in FF term, is it really as wide as 24mm on FF? Shoot indoor tight space, architecture and landscape is no problem?
Nearly all cameras are great for the purpose if you've been shooting with an iPhone (not that there's anything wrong with that). It's not usually a problem - but do consider the 16mm if you're worried.
Hello, if I can ask, which one would you prefer, Canon G7X Mark II or Panasonic LX10? I have never recorded a video with my camera, so Canon should be a better option in my opinion, since it has better zoom for all around camera, but this 4k Photo futures seems to be really interesting. I'm also thinking about GX850, but I has no image stabilization and lenses with IS are really expensive. I found Olympus E-PL7 but I seems to me to be too big for everyday camera. Which one would you choose please?
Olympus EPL9 too big? And I think you may be putting too high a value on image stabilization. I would not dismiss the GX850 on that count. Honestly, I'm not sure which one I'd pick from the G7X II or the LX10 - both have their good points and deficiencies. Make the choice based either on features or otherwise go with the one that feels better in your hand or that you like the look of best.
I meant too big to have it in the pocket (of trousers) seems to more like a "around" the neck camera. Thank you for opinion, I will consider your points.
Hello, congratulations for the video. I’m deciding between the LX 10 and the Canon G7X mark II. I’m interested in taking phots, mainly. Video is not a priority for me. Which one of them do you suggest? Thank you
Hi Maarten! Thanks a lot for the video, learned a lot. So the last week I have been trying to figure out what camera to get and the competition is between the LX10 and the G7X mark II. Important, I don't care for video features, only stills. The reason I would prefer the G7X is the nicer grip in the front and possibly better interface (I see myself as a beginner). The reasons I would go with the LX10, are some things I've read but are difficult for me to confirm, so hopefully you're view can clear this out for me. Some say the LX10 delivers sharper images, also has better and faster AF and is way better in for macro photos. I will mostly shoot outside during hikes, all the advice is welcome, thanks a lot! :) Also, can I shoot in RAW when in Auto mode with both of these camera's?
Thanks for your kind words, they're always appreciated. They are both good choices, and you're stated good reasons for preferring each. I'm surprised to hear that some think the LX10 is better for macro - although it doesn't have a "macro" mode, the G7X-2 has a much closer (5cm) focus distance, which I think gives it the advantage. (I return cameras after the review, so I can't take them out to compare.)
Thank you for the quick response Maarten, and yes credit where credit is due, your review is the most detailed on TH-cam. And well the LX10 would, if I'm right have a focus distance of 3 cm. But apart from macro, you also feel that the images of the Panasonic are sharper than? If that is the case, I will sacrifice the better grip and DIY something for it :)
always my pleasure. Someone more discerning than me might perceive some difference, or maybe it can be measured with a studio chart - but I just reviewed my images from both and find them equally sharp and detailed.
Great review and very informative! I have a hypothetical question, between Panasonic LX10, ZS100 and Sony RX100 III. One you have to choose one... which would it be. Thank you!
Hello Sir...i really love your detailed review on these cameras... Initially i was thinking about the RX100 V but after watching your comprehensive reviews on LX10...i think i would go for this instead... However, may i ask, how long the timelapse can last on 1 single charge of battery since the camera can't be charge while doing Timelapse... Hope to hear from you soon sir... Thank you and Have a nice day...
Thanks for the kind words. I'm sorry, that's not a parameter I tested. In any event, this will vary over the life of the battery - so any test would provide only a guideline. If you need a long timeline for time-lapse, choose a camera that can be externally powered.
Fantastic review MH. I’ve been looking around for a Compact camera and I think this may be it. Thanks for the detail in handling and overall review. Give my best to the director of photography your wife, stay healthy.
What kind of battery charger is used for this camera? Please respond when you can. I can’t find the answer anywhere online and even the Best Buy employee i talked to couldn’t figure it out.
The charger is available separately, and not included with the camera. Without the charger, the battery is charged in camera with USB. bhpho.to/2N50gfe
From what I read from a couple of owners of the LX10, there is more sharpness in stills at the long end than there is with the Sony RX100 lV. Have you compared the two and what was your conclusion?
Maarten Heilbron what I really want is a APSC sensor with a built in 12-60mm, constant f2.0, 4k video, mic input, tiltable screen useable evf in a range finder body the size of X100f. :) I want panasonic’s software so you can see my delima...
Hi Maarten! Thank you so much for producing this great, informative and instructional video. I just bought the LX10 in 2019 for a dive trip. This little camera gets amazing reviews by the dive community. But they are not good about sharing their knowledge for settings or camera features and how to use them inside an underwater enclosure. So, I am reaching out to you hoping you can help me with a couple of questions. 1) Long around 7:51 minutes into your video, you are talking about the great focus features of this camera. Being able to move the focus area around on the screen is of particular interest to me. But I cannot find how to do that without using the touch screen. Obviously the touch screen will not be available to me underwater. Can you advise me on how to do this with buttons, the menu, or the controller? 2) I would like to figure how to set the camera up with back button focusing like is on my Canon 5D M3. Is this possible? It would be fantastic to be able to move the focus area to exactly where I want it, and then to be able to have the camera focus before pushing the shutter. The small creatures, and fish obviously move around a lot! Basically, I would like the ability to focus, recompose and shoot. But I can't figure how to manage it on this little camera. Again, can you advise me? Thank you so much in advance. Yours have been hands down the best video instruction I've found.
Great review! Just ordered mine yesterday to have it for my Daughters Graduation. Smartphones are good for a pinch but if you want to enlarge they look like crap. I probably won't use 70% of the phones functions but the 4k film looks to be promising when you can pick a frame after to chose a pic from it. I know the pic will only be 8 mp but will it be OK to enlarge to a 5x7 picture with good quality? Also, I found to aftermarket add ons for a ND filter. Magfilter and lensmate. Which one is a better choice?
Thanks for the kind words. That is a useful feature, however, the shutter speed for video (1/60) is rarely ideal for capturing a still - so I would not raise my expectations too high, there will need to be a compromise. Enlarging 8Mp to 5x7 is not an issue. I'm afraid I have no experience with either brand. My only recommendation is to stay away from variable ND and to do a custom white balance after the filter is mounted. I find even the good ones have some colour shift and it varies depending on the lighting situation.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you Maarten. I did that which worked and I was enjoying taking long exposure shots of the night sky at f1.4 for 4 - 8 seconds. More stars came out on the photos than what my eyes could see. But then I changed some settings on focusing for selfie shots and now my camera wont take long exposure shots in manual mode. I am depressed. I am still trying to figure out how to get it back like I had it. I tried reset and that didnt work.
Great review as always, I would have expected a few words about the lx100, as the price and even the name are very similar. How do they compare in your opinion? Which one would you buy? Thanks
Thanks for your kind words, it's always nice to read them. I think they're overall very similar but I really liked the LX100, which is slightly larger, so less kludgey and has a larger sensor. As long as I could live without the post focus and focus stacking.
This remains a good choice (I assume it meets your needs and checks off all your requirements). Otherwise, consider the equivalent Sony RX100 series, where the latest models will offer a few more features.
Cameras with small sensors and fixed lenses are rarely ideal for portraits. I don't think the best portrait camera can be purchased for that price. For portraits, the ideal camera would have an APS-C or larger sensor with a 50-85mm prime lens with a wide aperture (F2 or larger).

This is by far the best review and also the best quick user guide for Panasonic LX10. I actually learned much more about my camera watching your video then reading through the factory manual. Thank you so much!
Always my pleasure, thank you for your kind words.
Same here. I have discovered so much about my camera from this I would otherwise not have known. Thank you much.
Always my pleasure, thanks for the kind words.
Great video. I have watched a LOT before I bought it. This is the best so far. Picked up a couple of things while watching. Thanks for making this!
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great review - very clear speaking, good quality video - the way a review should be made. Thank you
Thanks - I truly appreciate your kind comments.
This is why I love Lumix Panasonic. They offer cameras jammed packed with features at a very affordable price. I will be picking up this camera in the future to compliment my Lumix G9. Great video!
So glad to read that you enjoyed the video, thanks for your kind words.
Thanks for this great review. I'm using this camera for three months now and it's fantastic, I love it! :-)
Thanks for the kind words - and I'm happy to hear from a happy long time photographer with this camera.
Having tested the ZV-1 this summer it's peculiar to end up here and find the same point and shoot hall of fame still unmatched, most of them seem to be at least five years old now:
LX10, LX100 (II), ZS/TZ100/200, RX100, GX 5/7 II/III - is that all?
Millions of photographers before us seems to agree :)
I'm curious to try out the LX10 one day, they are quite rare around here now so it may never happen. Shame about the mic jack and HDMI limitations, even the TZ100 feeds live view (not clean, but almost). I'll probably end with a RX100 VII, they are steady at €1000-ish on MPB to this day, not sure why Sony abandoned that series.
Thanks for your kind words and interesting comments.
I find myself going back to this LX10 video every now and then since I got the LX10 around 6 months ago.
Thank you again for this video.
It's my pleasure, thank you for your kind words.
Complete review. Thank you for helping make decisions when buying
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks very much.
Hello Maarten. Thank you for the very detailed and comprehensive review. I just purchased this camera and I am the epitome of the word, novice, when it comes to photography. Your video will be a reference for me!
So glad to hear - always nice to know I've provided useful videos.
Wow! Awesome camera. I expect mine to arrive today and your video shows it can do way more than I was expecting. I may end up retiring my other cameras, of which I have plenty. Thanks for a very detailed and clear review.
Glad I could help! Thanks for taking the time to post your kind words.
that might be the most thorough and concisely explained review I've ever experienced! Well done.
Wow, thanks! Always nice to read that viewers find my videos useful.
This is as high a quality production as you'll find on youtube. Wonderful review.
Thank you for your very kind words!!!
By far the best review and instructional video I have seen.
Very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
This is the best review of LX10! Thank you.
That's very kind of you to say, thanks.
Subscribed! So glad i found your channel. It is by far, the most detailed and meticulous in discussing LX10 features. Absolutely very helpful for a noon like myself. Thank you so much, Maarten!
A pleasure to hear from you - thanks for your very kind words, appreciated.
The focus stacking will be very useful for my jewelry photography
That's a perfect application for this great feature.
I have to say amazing tutorial for new panasonic's explorer !!! Thanks Maarten
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Another informative and insightful review. Thank you for all the effort you put into these videos!
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Best controls review I've seen. It has a flip up viewer, correct?
Such kind words, and coming from such a respected source. Thank you very much! Yes, the screen flips up for vlogging, as detailed and demonstrated at th-cam.com/video/S-LaPUbOEjA/w-d-xo.html
Show damn it. Don't tell. :-)
A clear and unfortunate oversight, which I only realized when I was looking for the time to send you a link. Please accept my sincere apology.
Ha. Apology accepted. I know what sticklers you people of Dutch heritage are. I'm sure it hurt you deeply. None-the-less. I was looking at this camera and now I don't need a manual. I have you.
You're a frantically funny guy.
Thanks for this video Maarten. Nice in depth review
So nice to read your kind words, thanks for commenting.
I just ordered mine and this was really helpful and in detail. Thank you :)
It was a pleasure to read your kind words - that's exactly the reaction I'm hoping for, thanks.
I'm sorry, that is not something I tried. Maybe download the manual from Panasonic's web site to check.
I downloaded and read the manuals. The LX100 has that feature but the LX10 does not.
ur videos sounds positive and happy always..😁
I do my best to be both positive and happy - it makes life so much nicer. And thank you for the kind words, that's appreciated.
A very nicely in depth look. I wonder when manufacturers will start to add mic ports or usb to mic adapters? Especially given how much longer models with that feature can command full price and how much longer they hold their initial value on the resale market, which might sway some buyers as much as the port itself?
I appreciate the kind words, thanks! I fully agree, if the manufacturer wants to be serious about video add a mic and a headphone port.
Thank you once again sir for another magnificent pro level review. Absolutely the most technical, accurate, complete and informative reviews available.... thank you so very much.
How nice to read your kind words, thanks very much.
This is a very helpful video! Enjoyed your way of in depth reviewing
Thanks for taking the time to comment, and for your kind words.
hi sir! super like always! i was wonderingif you would give me an advice! i am in doubt if buy this panasonic or the canon g7x mark 2.. whic one in your opinion is better for image quality, autofocus ,low light and raw processing in camera( if there is a larger difference beween the two) ( 4k is great but is not the most important thing for me) thank you a lot!
Unless you already see a difference based on some feature you'd like to have, I'd judge them as fairly equal, and if 4K is not important I'd suggest you let your wallet and your brand preference be your guide.
Maarten Heilbron thank u !! really kind of u! I will follow your advice!!
Always my pleasure.
In the bazaar are many Canon g7x II cameras and few Panasonic lx15.That suggests something.Panasonic lx15 nobody wants to sell.
@@tomil2002 Or that they sell very quickly, and the vendors are sold out.
great review as always - I truly love my LX10 -
Thanks for the kind words - now I know why.
Which one would you pick the Sony RX 100 v or this one
I'd be very happy with either - but the longer video limit and the focus features make me prefer the LX10.
Hi! Could you help me choose between this model and the rx100m3? I'm not very interested in the video. Which of the two is best for photos? Thank you!
Both good. Here's my advice to help you choose: th-cam.com/video/9WiJQF0JXIE/w-d-xo.html
Hello. Thanks for the review. I am deciding between this and the G7x II. I read that the G7x has quality issues but it has a 4x zoom. I was wondering if the 3x zoom is good enough for portraits? I just want to take ordinary portraits, nothing fancy or professional.
Thanks for the kind words. Either is fine for portraits. With 3x you may need to be a little closer.
i wish you were giving a verdict rating for each of your reviews for comparison purposes! great and very detailed review anyway!
Thanks - that's a level of complexity that's beyond my current production capability.
Just discovered your channel and instantly subscribed. Best detailed reviews on cameras that I've ever seen. Could you suggest me best budget camera for travel and leisure? Should I get LX10 or G7, or any better suggestion perhaps?
Thanks for the kind words. The LX10 is a fine choice, but for a budget, maybe think about the GX850.
Maarten Heilbron Thank you very much. I'll look into it. My budget is around $700+, after conversion though. I live in Malaysia. Any other suggestions that I should look into?
That would be my recommendation.
dear Maarten..
tQ for ur in-depth review of the functions of the LX-10 .. if i were to buy the LX-10, i will feel safe knowing that there is NO function that i would miss + not knowing how to use them.
Lastly, i feel via seeing how knowledgable u r of the LX-10, it is as though u designed the camera.
again tQ. Cheers.
p/s 1st time an in-depth that is NOT boring..
How kind of you to say, it was a pleasure to read your comments, thanks.
Camera Collection - tell me more! These are difficult times for camera purchasers.
Maarten Heilbron I know! If you had to recommend the LX10 or the LX100 what would it be?
Could go either way depending on wallet, needs and preference. Sorry, but this one's on you.
thanks Maarten for this detailed video. question: does this camera have a built in ND filter like FZ2500? will you be doing a video for FZ2500? Thanks
Thanks for the kind words. I recommend M mode, so you can control both the shutter and the aperture.
i am digging up your playlist, i couldn't find any olympus pen f review... hope it will come soon!
I've tried, but Olympus has not been as helpful as I'd like. Still trying though.
Hello Maarten,
which camera is better to photograph with, the Canon g7x mark 2 or the Panasonic LX10? I would like to start with photography. Thanks already!
Just pick one - with your wallet, your hand and your heart. th-cam.com/video/9WiJQF0JXIE/w-d-xo.html
First of all, a nice and very thorough review. Do you have an idea if this camera is compatible with a UHS-II sd card? If so is it then capable of emptying its buffer faster? (
SANDISK EXTREME PRO SD UHS-II CARD)
Thank you for your kind words. It's compatible with UHS1 speed class 3.
Great review. Does this come with an instruction manual?
Maybe a Fuji? They have several pocket sized cameras with APS-C sensors, and might be what you're looking for?
I appreciate the kind words. AF continuous, in some situations will continue to search for focus. Well, that setting would be manual focus.
I have no personal experience to offer, but there are filter adapter kits available to add ND to this camera.
Great Lesson !! After a yr, I know & use perhaps 5% of this lesson.... Thank you!!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
nice review! would you be confident of saying this would be your choice for a traveling camera when focused on video recording? compared to lumix lx100 and sony rx100-V
Although I haven't reviewed it, I'd be tempted by the Panasonic GX850 for travel.
Understood.
how about this one ( lx10) compare with panasonic lx100 ? I'm really confused...I just keen on street photography and some low light situations. Which one is better for images ? Thank you
Not sure without testing - it seems that the larger sensor of the LX100 should give it the advantage, although the slightly better aperture and higher resolution of the LX10 tilts the advantage back. I'd probably take the LX100.
Hi, do you know how to see the shutter count on the lx15 please?
No idea, sorry.
Hi, i’d like to ask on which one is better? Sony RX100 V or This? Thanks in advance
Depends on your needs, I prefer having a viewfinder, but Panasonic's feature set and longer 4K recording times ...
I appreciate your kind words. Up to 30 images can recorded, but they are 2MP and 16x9.
Thanks for your quick reply. I might get this camera. it's mostly for travel so has to fit in the pocket, and would like to have good low light images. Keep up the good work.
Always my pleasure, thanks.
How much would it be kind sir? and is it be lightweight?
The price is: bhpho.to/2j9dr31
It weighs 310 grams
Is this good for TH-cam Videos and Vlogging ?
It certainly is.
hi sir just i want to know if its big different between fuji x70 and lx10 for quality picture thanks a lot
Not a big difference, but the advantage goes to Fuji, with a bigger sensor. Their colour rendition differs - but that's a personal preference issue.
Maarten Heilbron thanks a lot for the good information
Always happy to help.
just one word to this review: awesome!
(didn't know some of shown features of the cam)
That's so kind - I'm always pleased to hear that I've helped a viewer discover new features.
Hello, what about the length of video clips in HD and FullHD? Can one of these modes record video until the REC button is pressed? Or all the video modes record only 15 min or 29 min 59 sec? Thanks
I'm sorry, I don't have the answer. I return cameras after the review (so I can't check it for you) and the manual makes no mention of time limits.
@@MaartenHeilbron Ok, thanks for your attention!
Maarten Heilbron ok I see, so is better to get that XE3 than Limix LX10 for this purpose?
How about Leica XY rumor, do you heard about this?
Both are fine. There's a wider selection of micro four thirds mount lenses, but I feel that for the most part, Fuji lenses are of higher quality.
I would treat all of these as wrist-strap cameras. I'm not sure I have big enough pockets for any of them.
Hello, congratulations for the video.
I’m deciding between the LX 10 and the Canon G7X mark II. I’m interested in taking phots, mainly. Video is not a priority for me.
Which one of them do you suggest?
Thank you
I'm equally happy to recommend both. I'm not at all sure which I prefer. Did you also consider the Sony RX100 series?
@@MaartenHeilbron Yes, I did consider it, of course. It's too expensive for me, though
Some of the previous models, all of which I feel are worthy are less expensive.
Thanks a lot for your time :) Subbed
always my pleasure, thanks for subscribing
Great review and very informative! I have a hypothetical question, between Panasonic LX10, ZS100 and Sony RX100 III. One you have to choose one... which would it be. Thank you!
Fairly indifferent, but if all three were on a desk and I was going on holiday, probably the LX10.
Duly noted.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback :)
always my pleasure
Should I buy this camera or the Canon g5x? The EVF and the handling of the Canon seems pretty good. Also it zooms up to 100mm
I have not used the G5x, but it seems like a good choice, particularly if that 100x zoom is appealing to you.
Does RX100 V has stop motion function?
Is LX10 possible to have HEVC video file format support?
No and no.
Fantastic review MH. I’ve been looking around for a Compact camera and I think this may be it. Thanks for the detail in handling and overall review. Give my best to the director of photography your wife, stay healthy.
I will pass your kind words along, thanks for watching, commenting, etc. Has it really been five years since you became a subscriber? Wow! Thanks!!!
Do you think this would be a better option than GX85?
I'm not sure, I haven't reviewed the GX85.
Hello, great review! Do you know how to obtain the shutter count on this camera? Thanks!
Thanks for your kind words. If that's available, it's information obtainable only by a technician, there is no menu option for that.
From what I read from a couple of owners of the LX10, there is more sharpness in stills at the long end than there is with the Sony RX100 lV. Have you compared the two and what was your conclusion?
I don't really have the setup to make an accurate and repeatable analysis of those kinds of issues - check with dpreview.
Does it possible to crack 30 min recording limit?
Yes, with an external recorder. I'm not aware of an internal solution, although there may be one. I would not recommend it.
Thanks, very useful! Especially the information about that the camera turns the HDMI only during playback.
Always appreciate hearing from a viewer who's found the information they needed.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you once more!
Which would recommend, this or the GX 85 with the kit tens?
Sure. What are your needs? Do you feel one is more suitable than the other?
Maarten Heilbron what I really want is a APSC sensor with a built in 12-60mm, constant f2.0, 4k video, mic input, tiltable screen useable evf in a range finder body the size of X100f. :) I want panasonic’s software so you can see my delima...
Nice set of requirements, we'd all be happy with a camera like that - although maybe a slightly longer reach on the lens.
I am travelling, and that's a little more detail than I have access to at the moment. Can you wait until May 12th?
Thanks for the information. Have a good day.
always happy to help
Thank you for your presentation you did a great job on this camera thanks again
You are very welcome, thanks for your kind words.
thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have a quick question that can i mute audio when recording video with panasonic lx10?
Always my pleasure. Here's the quick answer ... "No". There is no setting to stop audio recording during video.
Hi if you were to pick a camera first one in 12 years would it be the ZS100 or LX 10
Neither. I'd take a Sony 6xxx model or a Fujifilm X-T20 or 30.
Outstanding walkthrough. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it I appreciate your kind words.
do you suggest this or lx100?(lx100 costs about 200euro less here)
My understanding is that they're pretty similar, but I haven't had the opportunity to use the LX100, so can't really say.
On the lx10 how do you get the shutter to stay open longer than one second when taking pictures? For long exposure shot
Change to the electronic shutter.
@@tonymadera3603 Oh dear. Focussing shouldn't have any impact. However, you do need to be in manual exposure mode.
I would have asked the same question. LX100 it is.
Glad to hear I could help.
That's a decent review, thank you so much!
I have a question; do you recommend it in December 2020? If not, what alternatives do you recommend?
This remains a good choice (I assume it meets your needs and checks off all your requirements). Otherwise, consider the equivalent Sony RX100 series, where the latest models will offer a few more features.
@@MaartenHeilbron thanks a lot for your reply 🙏💐
Great video! Is this camera good for portraits? Because I am in desperate need of the best portraits camera (better if compact) at max 400 euro
Cameras with small sensors and fixed lenses are rarely ideal for portraits. I don't think the best portrait camera can be purchased for that price. For portraits, the ideal camera would have an APS-C or larger sensor with a 50-85mm prime lens with a wide aperture (F2 or larger).
@@MaartenHeilbron my LX5 takes great portraits
@@xstensl8823 I"m sure you're being modest and that the majority of the credit goes to you.
Another problem i noticed . When sending to a smartphone or Google photos it wont alow you to send anything shot in 4K photo mode.
I'm pretty sure that if you save an image from a 4K capture to a separate file that you can send that.
Hi, since 2 years, would you still recommand this, or a new camera with same specs ? Thx
If you liked the specs, it's still a fine camera. Then as now, there are better/different models.
