CANON R5 after 2 YEARS of extensive usage... Still Valid?

- I’ve had my Canon R5 now for almost 2 years.
I am a working professional, so this camera is used a lot in various tasks… landscape, travel, wedding, events, advertising and more… often in extreme conditions, both photos and video.In this video Im going to tell you how the R5 handles everything I throw at it, what’s good and what’s bad… I’m getting help from 2 other photographers who been in the business for a long time to help me compare it to other cameras in similar price range… although I’m not a big fan of comparing cameras in videos like this, it does offer some clarity.

Why are people so preoccupied with the age of cameras? Buy what you can afford and use it to the best of your ability it really is that simple
Factor in the price as of May 2024 of $2,899, the absolute best buy in the camera market.
Yes… still my primary camera… I see no reason to upgrade
R5C here.. no IBIS no disgusting edge wobble. Absolutely INSANE camera... Mainly shoot photo but heavy video use as well. If financially viable I'd gotten a second R5C or a R5 to avoid switching tele/wide/macro. These are both absolutely amazing cameras.
And obviously as B-Cam for an alternate angle.
I had some experience with the R5C… great camera… I found a few things that irritates me a little… the delay when you switch between photo and video is 15-20 seconds… in some cases that’s to long… I like to have the option for ibis when I need to run and gun… and the focus system is better in the R5… but a great camera nevertheless 🤠
@@oli-haukur-valtysson Absolutely, for me it takes roughly 10 seconds. Are you on the latest firmware? I had an update available once since I purchased it. Not sure if there is improvement by updating though. Sometimes when idling (no action) I turn it off and have the choice to instantly do photo or video. That helps sometimes if you can't decide to go photo or video. I have missed a few shots because of that (being in video and deciding to go photo) but in general if you time it right it's a nuisance I am willing to accept for that crystal clear footage (video). Have not tried the R5 yet but I've read that it is indeed better/'snappier'. Wonder what the R1 is going to be like. Probably not attainable at the price it is going to be sold but if it has the stacked sensor with, say a sensor upwards of 35mp, that would be a dream come true wouldn't it. 😁
You can program the M-Fn button to be a photo/video switch, that's how I set mine up when I had it. Might get back to it eventually if a Mark II comes out and people start dumping them.
I know… but I just find this design stupid… because it was good with the switch 😊
Also the problem is it’s not very visual on the screen which mode you’re in… problematic in stressful situations where things happen fast…

@@oli-haukur-valtysson I don't see any space where they could put a switch like that.
In future models they will probably move it to the left side like the R6 Mark II but even that is not perfect.
The R5 layout looks fine to me as-is, just wanted the RATE and LOCK buttons to be customizable as well, they are wasted.
I use different things for photo and video so the screen looks very different, but ymmv.

I’ve owned all brands and Nikon has better colors than Sony and Sony has better colors than canon. With that being said, canon has the best video colors.
Most people think the other way around 😂
