  • As far from civilization I have ever been and DISASTER! A tree almost takes off Dad's arm and pierces almost right through it. Prospecting can be dangerous. But can also be VERY rewarding. Check out these finds as Dad bleads through his field bandages.

    1: as a business, mine owner, There is a REQUIRED First Aid station with a pretty well stocked 1st aid box: IT THE LAW, not sure if certification required of at least one employee on site.
    2: my bet, Dan as former teacher at least certified in CPR, if not also 1st responder 1st aid..as a Construction foreman, superintendent, I was certified in both...

    How do you know on what plane to cut open the Thundereggs? Also I wasn't worried about your dad. I'm sorry that he got hurt but I knew that he was going to be okay just by his attitude. I can tell that he his a tough old bird and that he just doesn't have much, if any, quit in him. He reminds me of my dad and older brother. Those two could have lost an entire arm put it on ice and gone back to work to finish the job saying they'd get it sewn back on later. I don't think your dad is that dumb, just that tough. Great guy your dad. Then again so are you and your entire family. Easy to see where it comes from.

    I honestly can't get enough of the Family adventures. The best memories in life are created with good times in the outdoors with family. I wish my dad would have had a TH-cam channel so I could go back and watch the glorious Days growing up in Utah and all the good times we had. He wasn't into Rock hounding but we did find some arrowheads and Indian pottery one day. Thanks Dan for bringing us along and all of the awesome work you do with editing and filming. 👍🇨🇦
    P.S. After watching the entire show, I just want to say thank you so much for being open to the possibility of allowing rockhounders to continue going there. I understand it's dangerous and they can make a mess. But the amount of material there and possibly generations of families that have been there in the past to be able to continue to go is priceless. You are a true gentleman Dan, thank you. 🤠🇺🇲

    Do you lose a claim if you do not work it? Do you have to renew them periodically?

    Hey Dan. Another great video. I was wondering if certain types of patern appear more in certain sizes or it all completely random? It seem like geodes are more common in bigger stones?

    I love my Thundereggs. Dug out a bucket at the Polka Dot mine north of Bend in July.

    Wouldn’t tapping them help differentiate hollow ones before digging them out?

    • @dionh70
      @dionh70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sorry, no. I've prospected regular geodes before, and the host rock never consistently responds to tapping or knocking. I've tried.

      It doesn't work like that. The hollows might be small or large, filled with nothing or filled with crystals. When the eggs are still embedded in the host material you can't get a true resonance when you tap it but most importantly is the fact that even if you could tell that it was hollow you would still have to dig it out to get to any thundereggs that might be behind it.
