They say there is gold EVERYWHERE on the Fraser River.

  • They say ALL Fraser River Gravels have placer gold in them. Let me test that theory by running a gold recovery machine known as a High Banker under these HUGE bluffs of gravel. Lets see how much gold I can actually recover.

I'm jealous, I have to buy pay dirt to pan.
I'm not able to get out much anymore but I have a couple grandkids who are so wanting to learn!
There's just not much gold in St Joseph Missouri 😆
Unless you want to count that 6-7 ounce nugget in the Pattee House Museum.
It was brought back from the California Gold Rush
A buddy of mine, one of his relations sold it to a banker and when he died he donated it to the museum for everyone to enjoy.
Now I have thought about borrowing it but the guy who owns it is too Nice.
      😆

    2 things:
1 - I love the videos, even when the gold isn’t good. The scenery and your enthusiasm are both infectious, and daily videos wouldn’t diminish my appreciation of either.
2 - I was lucky enough to get a couple bags of the Christmas paydirt special bags as my first foray into panning and absolutely loved it. Good mixture of gold & gemstones (one of the garnet pieces has a nice heart shape & is going into a ring for my fiancé as well!) and an exciting experience seeing the shine appear In the pan.
Thank you for doing these weekly videos and can’t wait to see the channel grow to 2m subs and up!

Quit a few jagged rocks below the surface makes sense because of better anchoring on the hillside, than the round rocks that are easily eroded down hill into the river drainage system. That is the reason for having mostly round rocks on the surface, that are eroding down hill along the surface into the drainage system that dumps into the Fraizer River. The small amount of angular rocks eroded into the Fraizer River end up on the bedrock after tumbelling with the round rocks down Fraizer River. I hope everyone has a safe, healthy, good day.

The jagged pieces could be from the frost erosion that happens each winter and spring.
Water gets in the cracks in spring and summer, freezes in winter and cracks the rock.

@8:30 Dan, I think the reason for Fraser River gravel being more heavily worn than what you are looking at has to do with the high amount of hydraulic action in a river that runs in the tens of thousands of CFS (into the hundreds of thousands of feet of flow during floods). Between the Fraser and the Thompson Rivers, you’re draining a HUGE area of interior BC and resultantly the forces are higher on the rocks moved by the rivers.

I've been to a few place around this big old world of ours. But when breath taking beauty come in to play. BC wins hands down every time. The Canadian Rockies truly are God's playground. In case you're wondering, I'm from that teeny tiny lump of rock you may have heard of, Britain.
I was in your country in 1981, and have yearned to get back there since. Saskatoon through Banff (not the Scottish one) and Golden, via Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Brooks, and Calgary. (That's the best my memory will give me). From the flat and hot, to the mountainous, and cold, it's all gobsmacking.

Awesome video here Dan. Definitely a great video of the cliff you was at highbanking. You can definitely see the layers of the deposits in the cliffs. And I have to say that was a good way to sample a small amount. No bad, you couldn't sample the cliffs in a larger amount. Especially taking a sample from the cliffs like you do in hard rock mining. Lol.
