    Got the privilage of meeting Dan and his father at my work the other day, truly a modest and true gentleman, also quite a bit taller than I had assumed, hell of a hand shake!

    Don't use a filter when doing what you're doing. The filter is only for cleaning the air discharge of dust. Don't use a filter for what you're doing. The vacuum will have more power.

    Hey Dan I have a crazy crusher as well I cut a 4 x 4 piece of wood and put it under my trailer hitch when I was crushing. It takes the bounce out and doesn’t take as much work to crash the ore. Great video look forward to the next one.

    Hey Dan have you every tried fireing your gold quartz, putting them in a pretty hot campfire, Vo-Gus prospectin (hes Australian) did it and the quartz became super brittle and his gold was jagged and all over the place and super cool looking after lightly crushing it. Id love to see you try this and give your explanations on it.

    That's great Dan; I love it, just suck out all the dirt and everything and sift out the gold later on. It is a great way to get gold where former miners couldn't have cared less about the dirt. You also vacuum up the neighborhood and that's always good.

    Hey Dan! If you're going to keep using the shop vac for collecting, you can get vortex separators that sit on top of the buckets! Keeps all the nice dirt in the bucket where you can see how much you have and helps to protect the shop vac too! We usually use them in workshops but could see it being useful here :)

    Dan it looks like you have enough room to attach an extension chute to the top classifier plate with a couple small c-clamps. At least it would allow for directing the larger chunks into a collection bucket instead of dropping out around the base, I'm sure Gold Hog will address that on the consumer model per your original observation. Best of luck with your endeavors, and thanks for the videos.

    I am impressed with that gold hog, that looks pretty effective and move enough material.. my suggestion is I would hate those Wing nuts and they really should have an improved fastener Wing that's so hard to handle if your hands are cold or nerve damage. If it can get lost it just might so.. I would sure like to get out there with my metal detector and do some searching. Other people's old minor stash is pretty interesting

  • @jcon1000
    @jcon1000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    If you are going to continue to use the shop-vac, you should custom make a metal filter to replace the paper filter. That way you could only drop what size dirt you want to come through to take home. Amazing video as always!! You should also get a machete if you have to trailblaze a lot.

    • @wingnutbert9685
      @wingnutbert9685 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could do a mesh shroud to protect the filter, but the filter is needed to keep the air clean that is being expelled. Anything bigger than fine dust will kill the impeller and motor. :) A Dust Deputy/ separator bucket in front of the vac may do the trick you're looking for.

    True Story !
    The cleaners who regularly used to service the jewellery quarter in Birmingham ran a productive sideline . Everything hoovered from all the premises were filtered over a 3 yr period and saved , the fine particles unseen to the human eye soon added up and within 5 yrs of being a humble cleaning company the boss retired with several millions .
    Great idea that still has legs 👍

    !!! Might be handy to use a bucket separator in front of the vac, Dan. Since you've got buckets anyway, just need the separator lid. Might at least separate the real fine, light weight dirt. Cheap and easy to build or buy.

    Dan, small latches that click closed would lend to a quick assembly of the Gold Hog. That way, the two parts of the latches are permanently attached to the Gold Hog. I've seen them made out of steel, aluminum, and brass and they are made in small sizes too. With screws and wing nuts, you are almost guaranteed to lose one, especially outside in the dirt or grass. Just a thought

    Hey Dan that mine adventure was awesome. Heck if lived up there I would definitely like to help you work it. PS I think that gold hog can use some work.
    I say it should be shorter and longer. Give your dirt some time to wash out. And then have it drop through two layers of sluice boxes. More like the cube but longer.

    Right on Dan! I love the format. I wouldn't mind at all if it was longer, with some more time spent on refining.
    The full-process videos bring meaning to the dig (which on its own can seem like just a video of dirt-moving) and context to the crush (which can seem dry and mechanical.) Very nicely done!

    I love your videos Dan. You are living my dream life!! Hey, You mentioned the Honda generator... I use a generator from Harbor Freight called the Predator. It looks just like the Honda, In fact it is a Chinese knock-off of the Honda, And it uses a Honda motor that is just slightly smaller that Honda discontinued a few years ago, But China is now licensed to produce. It has great performance ( I used it for two weeks straight during the Texas winter blackout couple of years ago.) And the best feature it has.... It is HALF the price of a Honda Generator. Just thought I would pass that along. Thank you so much for all your videos. I enjoy them very much.

    Hey Dan... rough and dirty way to estimate gold values in specimen with gold. If you have a scale that you can rig up a beam, suspend your specimen on the beam with light thread and weigh it in air then in water. calculate specific gravity. stone average is 3.5, excess specific gravity is likely gold in the specimen.

  • @seldoon_nemar
    @seldoon_nemar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Dan, they make a thing called a Cyclonic separator. it's an extra bit that's made to fit onto 5 gal pails and keep heavy stuff out of the shop vac. but in this case, I think it would just automate loading your buckets! fewer trips! you just need to bring a stack of buckets up and your shop vac stays empty so you don't beat up the filter. you could do 5-10 buckets in a few hours like that I would think.
    the best part is they are $20 and you get to have a longer hose too
    Edit:
    You could probably make one out of some plywood and scraps you have sitting around too. just needs to fit a pail and have an in/ out port for the hose. you're working with literal rock lmao

  • @victorjubinville5720
    @victorjubinville5720 ปีที่แล้ว
