Did you know they make drones for tunnels? They have a cage around them so the blades don't hit things. Its not only safer, but could get you a lot of interesting footage.
Pyroxene often contains other minerals like Scandium, vanadium and a host of light weight metals including Lithium. You might consider an assay on your pyroxene, it might be low in copper but high in a metal used today that was waste a 100 years ago.
Dont forget the importance of good spark arrestors. We have seen fires down here from dirt ikes without them, and it appears as effective as a drip torch. Nasty!
I know it may not be your thing, but I would REALLY love to see more of the adit with the rails, maybe invite one of your friends who loves exploring that sort of thing?
I know you're supposed to become buddy-buddy with other TH-camrs and there are certainly other TH-camrs that do a lot of mine exploration. Maybe you could explore it together and have a 2 er video
I have a system where I take heavy duty orange plastic bags with handles. As I collect I leave the bags along my trail and when I return I collect the bags. If you take care of them you can use them many times. You only have to carry the heaviest load the shortest distance possible. I do not think I ever lost a rock I wanted to pick up on the way back with this system.
DAN! Your quad problems..I’m not sure if you’ve messed much with it but you should try replacing the brake fluid with DOT 4 or whatever the equivalent for you is. It has a higher boiling point but also doesn’t thermally expand as much. But just putting new fluid in can get rid of any absorbed water which can effect boiling points and thermal expansion as well.
Clean the bleed port in the master cylinder guarantee that is the cause of the problem... I see that all the time at my workplace..... old fluid turns to sludge
one other thing is to replace the soft brake lines becuase they can swell on the inside and act like a check valve not letting the brake fluid to return to the master and locking up the wheels.
Dan thank you for sharing your spray bottle tip. I hadn’t thought of it and always have been paranoid about stopping unless I trampled all the grass first. Think you’ve saved my nerves and time. Your the best ‘nd so is your content ~Smile oN I did miss your Geology Lesson of the Day
It's the stuff that gets caught. Drive slow, park on rocks, fire extinguisher, keep vehicle in site untill cool always look back for smoke. Nothing worse than lighting your exit on 🔥 or truck/quad. Even damp sphagnum dries on the exhaust and burns... I've heard😉
Great and intriguing exploration - maybe try to find old articles / documents and drawings / photos of the mine site that will help to complete the overall picture of this former mining operation. As for the cameras: As a photographer, I prefer the crisp, vivid footage the GoPro provided in your other videos. While the iPhone takes great stills (railroad tracks inside the mine), the video colors looked a bit washed out. I also got distracted by the camera's struggle to focus in the shade (almost made me dizzy). I never noticed anything like that with your previous videos. My vote clearly goes to the GoPro for video footage.
The long views were spectacular with this camera! But the rocks you said were sparkly, not so much. Didn't see any shine really. Fun explorations! Loved that Dana is not so camera shy. 😊
I noticed that the quality was a bit lower than usual today. A bit less sharp, a bit more artifacting in fast movements. Then you mentioned the change in filming equipment, which explained it. I think it is not bad, but I prefer the highest possible quility, so I like the gopro better. But I also understand, especially on hot days and out in the wild, that it is much easier and lighter setup to just use a phone.
"Exploring new ground for gold and copper mines? That's the spirit of adventure and discovery! Mining has shaped landscapes and history, and uncovering these precious resources can be both challenging and rewarding. Wishing you success in your exploration! ⛏️💰🌍
Your videos are awesome Dan. Making me want to explore my property in globe, arizona. My cousin and I own a few acres in the old ghost town of copper hills which was a copper (and other minerals) mining area. On our lane we have old big mining structures and a capped mining hole that is known as the bottomless pit. It’s 1400 feet down and about 75 feet wide. It’s real name was the Boston-superior mining shaft. It has horizontal tunnels all through it on the way down that lead to all the other locations like the mill and what not. We have all sorts of copper, quartz, malachite, and so many other ores all over just the ground surface. You can’t walk 10 feet without finding so many cool rocks. Can only imagine what we could in earth.
When in fire country like the Okanogan (we were on the US side, Mt. Hull, Tonasket, etc) we would take a mylar foiled 'space blanket' to park on. Rolls up, super light, and keeps the tinder from contacting the hot metal. Keep the water for yourself on those hot days.
Dear Dan, the view was incredible. Thank you for showing it. This is 50% of why I watch these videos - like yours and Pioneer Pauleys amongst others. You get to see some amazing scenery and terrain. Thank you.
That's really interesting. I've heard of the Copper King and Gonncola mines, but I never thought I'd get to see it. That's really cool Dan and Danna. Thanx for bringing us along, Its really appreciated.
I speculate that you metal furnace looking object that you're referring to is part of a parkland refinery process where they use excessive amounts of heat burn off some of the sulfides to help with the crush or to capture mercury.
That black stuff looks a lot like anthracite to me... coal. BTW Dan, when you're in an area with agates/opal watch out for ironstone and break some pieces off and see what you find. You never know, you may just find a new source of BC boulder opal or matrix opal.
I love your free and fun adventures in the wild. The Quad-ride was exciting and yay for water in the creek. Beautiful mountains and history ! The quality of your video is awesome !! Wow...nobody wants Tetanus... vigilance required for sure. Hey, if anyone can find Sasquatch, you can in those wild mountains.... just saying . Good job keeping safe. The "something else"...might be an adit ! Beautiful element hunting !! Re-deemed for sure !
The iPhone takes excellent video. In my opinion, this looked better than the GoPro. Depending on which iPhone you’re using, it also has a macro lens too. It’s a great shooter.
If they were processing the copper into metal the process in the furnace created carbon monoxide and as the crushed ore was roasted with charcoal the rock would give off an oxide molecule to create a stabler carbon dioxide and once the oxide molecule was released from the ore the copper was released to become a metal instead of chemical compound.
Well Dan for me I don't care the quality of the shots as long as I can hear u and u do as always close ups of your finds I couldn't care your why I watch not the quality and yes Dan your quality is top notch
Hi Dan: Thank you for sharing another fantastic video. Always entertaining and educational even if I am a pensioner. I feel like I am with you, enjoying the excitement. Regards 🇿🇦.
I am with the others I think the go pro vids where better. I think the one camera had better detail with the rock pics showing glitter and colours. For all the bluster I don't think the I Phones are all that.
If the Merritt in this video is at all associated with the little logging town of Merritt, B.C (I know you do most of your work in B.C) then cool! I used to live in the town in the 1980's. At the time, it was 8400 people, three logging mills (that I knew of), a lot of stoner bikers, & way too many bars. The area you were in looks a lot like what I recall, & it's still gorgeous.
Don't spray directly on your engine block with cool water after it's gotten fully hot. Can crack the block. Same for brakes... rapid cooling will cause warping...
😂😂😂😂❤❤ 104 degrees is that hot and sometimes that is our low at night here in Arizona I think the hottest it got this summer in Arizona with the wind blowing 121° 😂😂 now that is hot😂😂😂❤❤
General use for videoing on your iPhone is more than good enough Dan. No major loss of quality, and the sound is good too. It's far more convenient when you only have😊 to cart your phone around.
Camera - It seems to me that this camera has a much more "realistic" field of view than a go pro. To me, they always make things look further away than they really are. For example, an object that is only 10 feet behind you appears to be two or three times further. Thanks for the vid. Looking forward to what you find in that old attit (sp?).
This new camera is okay but I think your old one is better when do you think you're going into the adit and explore? Thanks for sharing this with us six stars
I did notice Dan the difference sir. Much clearer, better color definition, seeing show items clearly, doesn’t have the “fisheye view” over all Dan a grand improvement sir….. Rev. Paul, Eustis Fl.
27:02 When I was a kid I used to fix tings, repair untying. I remember working on Toasters, that had natural Mics as the insulars, this was SOO Much better than the less popular Asbestos insulators. So, One slab of Mica, about 2mm thick, on each side, and one in the middle you know, roughly the size of a piece of toast, and had the electrical heating element wrapped around the Mica The Mica itself would glow in parts. Although it was an excellent electrical insulator, it tended to absorb some heat, which would reflect back on th bread. I swear they made better toast back then.
Nice video and beautifull scenery. But i am always surprised how bone dry that landscape looks up there. Is that normal? I live down in germany near Hamburg, here it is always somehow wet.
iPhone is a great camera especially if your recording in 4K picture and video was pretty clear and sharp in my opinion and the closeups were good looking forward to the exploration so hurry up lol thanks for sharing see you on the next one 👍🏼👊🏼
Dan, that prospectors beard sure got put to its character during this vlog? Lol! I know winters just around the corner, but take it easy, wouldn't want to see ya lose that prospectors beard again or worse.... 💎🤙⚖️🤠
Really nice pegmatite at 22:34. From what I've at least seen, those black crystals look more like pyroxene. Tourmaline crystals consist of a bunch much thinner, pseudohexagonal ones, though it's not always visible. It is typical for pyroxenes to have this black color, but the green weathered stuff you've been finding before are probably amphiboles. However, it's weird for pyroxene to be with alkali feldspars, so don't quote me on that
Did you know they make drones for tunnels? They have a cage around them so the blades don't hit things. Its not only safer, but could get you a lot of interesting footage.
A profound statement from the great Dan Hurd. "That is definitely something". As always, Thanks Dan!
Pyroxene often contains other minerals like Scandium, vanadium and a host of light weight metals including Lithium.
You might consider an assay on your pyroxene, it might be low in copper but high in a metal used today that was waste a 100 years ago.
Good point.
Solid fire tips Dan. The people of the Okanagan Valley are blessed to have a Gem like you living here! Keep up the good work!
Dont forget the importance of good spark arrestors. We have seen fires down here from dirt ikes without them, and it appears as effective as a drip torch. Nasty!

The black in that stone is almost definitely schorl, which is a very common form of black tourmaline.
Dan in a dirt bike helmet.... the dichotomy is just too much 😂😂😂
👍

flush out that old fluid. $10 for enough brake fluid to flush that bike thoroughly. also old rubber hoses can get crumby.

👍👍 Video quality wasn't much different to watch for me. I always love seeing your family exploration videos Dan. 🙏💕😇

the phone does look nice on slower moving or still shots. go pro does better at lower lighting? idk. the content is still good.

Yay feathers 😊
I love seeing the rocks/crystals etc just lying around waiting to be found

I got the ammonite, was beautiful and well packaged. Ty Dan and thanks for the videos
Thanks, Dan. And thankyou, Dayna(sp?) for being part of this vid. Enjoyed.
Love the 80’s synth rock vibe opening music!

Dan We live on a river in Teas. Wind is normal sound here. Love your show. God Bless you , your family and all our u tube friends.
The new camera was great nice clear picture and good quality sound. Awesome video!
I love the old mine explores and hearing what history you know of them. Keep up the good work ^^

The scenery is definately improving. Thanks for sharing Dan.
Definitely
There's a guy up in Canada, Timothy Dyck, who is a youtube blacksmith. He uses old railroad tracks to make axes. He'd love some of that old stuff.
Love seeing danna ... and your videos are always clear. Always enjoy your content and collaborations with Jason mbmm... And pauly
Great episode! I believe the iPhone was much better in the sun. Colors were amazing and clarity was improved in bright conditions.
The iPhone takes excellent video. In my opinion, this looked better than the GoPro. Depending on which iPhone you’re using, it also has a macro lens too. It’s a great shooter.
Would love to see you and Matt’s off road recovery get together and maybe find the gold mine they have been hunting for
You do need to tag team with Matt I’m sure you would be a whole lot of assistance.
They know vehicles you know rocks.
I love the spraying down the dry grass - never thought of that. Thanks Dan!

I fell in love with BC after reading Bradford Angier's books about roughing it in the Peace River District many years ago.
Sounds like you have water in your brake fluid and a sticky caliper. The heat boils the water creating all that pressure.
Watching from Burma.
Well Dan for me I don't care the quality of the shots as long as I can hear u and u do as always close ups of your finds I couldn't care your why I watch not the quality and yes Dan your quality is top notch
Yes Dan, you are correct!! that is Tourmaline in feldspar
Beautiful scenery. Can’t wait for you to go back go in the tunnel
Nice Findings, Dan! Good luck Finding the BEST Feathers Deana!! JJ
16:35 Just because you're out mining in the Canadian wilderness doesn't mean you don't also enjoy a good brick oven pizza! 🍕😂
Camera looked great! Very neat location. Actually both sites.
I have a wife that loves adventuring like yours does with you. There's nothing better. Love the channel.
Dan says, "I found the adit".....
Dayna, from out of screen, holding her 'heavy rock':
"WHO found the adit??? Hmmm?"
🤣🤣🤣
Video quality is really clear. Looks amazing.
Beautiful day in BC . Greetings from Harris Creek
Hi Dan: Thank you for sharing another fantastic video. Always entertaining and educational even if I am a pensioner. I feel like I am with you, enjoying the excitement. Regards 🇿🇦.

Nice prospecting video Dan the man! Copper ore certainly is beautiful!
The view is absolutely stunning
Looks like you had tons of fun exploring. That's my kind of adventure!

Rev. Paul, Eustis Fl.
Good video Dan, the inside of the mine is a must see.
I worked a fair portion of the summer in SW Arizona. In July and August there were a number of days it edged up near 50C 122F Brutal to work in that.
Absolutely Awsome.!! Great camera work. An that was amazing looking ore.!!
Good to see this video keep it up
Very interesting video! Always good to see Dana! I think the video quality is a bit better with the iPhone. It looks sharper.
Bring it on, Dan! Loving all the education..,.💎💪👍🤠
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
That copper mine may be worth serious money soon. I heard we will be needing as much copper in the near future as we have mined since the bronze age.
Onwards and Upwards Rockhounding 👍 nice job!!!
Hey how come we didn't get an extreme close-up on that feather
The algorithms go me! I am glad goodcontent creators post on schedule!?!?
The phone records your voice as deeper. Video is beautiful.
I would love to come explore that adit with you!! I love finding and exploring old mines here in Montana.
Yes, the camera and sound is very good quality IMHO...
The video quality looks very good to me Dan, though I never thought the Go pro footage was bad in any way either.
Dan, at 7:11 top right of rock (not left). I see what appears to be a smal rough gold chunk sticking out.
I think it woukd be cool to see you do a collaboration video with TVR exploring or some other mine explorer TH-cam channel in a situation like this!
27:02 When I was a kid I used to fix tings, repair untying. I remember working on Toasters, that had natural Mics as the insulars, this was SOO Much better than the less popular Asbestos insulators.

Sphalerite if the crystals follow a triangular pyramidal striated tendancy. Is considered an ore of Zinc.

thank you for sharing the adventure and information.
Very good to see you doing forest fire prevention! Super important.

Canadian rattlesnakes? If they bite, do they say "Soorry"?
Couldn't resist. 😅
The camera is good. I would like to see you run the drone overhead of these sites more.
I think Dan you just made gopro very upset! It looks good enough with the iphone, a bit more vivid which is nice. Great video as usual. Thanks
It is a really pretty feather!! 😊
This is going to be another great Dan Hurd video
