He actually 1000% earned the criticism he got throughout his NFL career. He was one of the biggest draft busts of all time. His play at Washington was beyond pathetic. Add on his outside issues and inability to avoid strip clubs at the peak of covid and refusal to wear a mask and he earned his criticism fairly. Dude acted like a complete idiot and put up some of the worst qb numbers of all time. Like actually, thats not exaggeration. But that doesn't mean people don't feel bad about what happened. He didn't deserve to die. But you're not special for standing by a guy that spit in his fans faces as far as football is concerned.

Should have but unfortunately Haskins believes hes better than Smith and 95% of the QBs in the league. With his attitudes there's no inspiration looking down. This kid is flawed, he's hardwired for failure. Because of the similar culture of the team that drafted him it was a recipe for failure from the beginning. His chances for turning this around and making it back as an average NFL starter long term are less than 1%. It will have to be one desperate team to even consider taking a chance. Maybe he can find a role as a practice qb and a backup but that will be short lived. Should have finished his college career and continued to mature and polish his skills. He wasn't ready physically but more so mentally. Put a fork in him.

As a football team fan here is what I saw. He’s a sensitive guy and both the coaching staffs in his two years here didn’t want him. He also didn’t put the time into the classroom to get better. Instead of actually having that chip on his shoulder, he seemed to have the IDGAF attitude and like you said worried more about his brand than his game. He seems like a good guy that just needs to grow up a little bit and hopefully go to a team that wants him from day 1.
Edit: I see you covered most of this anyways I should have known 😂

Lot of conjecture that the team has a good case for termination of the remainder of the contract for cause. Team is bleeding money this season and may go that route.
Bottom line Dwayne wasn't ready for the next level. Gruden knew it. Will he ever be? Will he get the chance? Not unless he does a lot of growing up soon. Not to mention all the baggage that Daddy brings to the table.

For his dad to be as overly protective as he clearly appeared to be, I wonder where he was in the midst of these pattern of mistakes his son kept making. I remember reading that weird article with the reporter and his dad, and I remember reading either in that article or another one, that his dad hired a whole team to help promote Haskins brand. When your own college HC, who btw is one of the greatest coaches in college football history, who's programs has helped produced enormous NFL talent, says that your not ready to lead a franchise, then that should have told EVERYBODY something.
