If it's a prison planet stuck out in the middle of the Unknown Regions, it's probably meant to be the Alcatraz/San Quentin of the Star Wars Galaxy (or Rura Penthe, as another example). It probably held quite a few prisoners that had friends with the pocket money and interest in busting them out.
The Night Buzzard is my favorite ship from the sequel trilogy and the Knights of Ren are my favorite part of the sequel trilogy despite how under-utilized they were. I do hope they get their chance to shine in a future show. I love the concept of them and their unique designs. The Night Buzzard itself looks so cool, like an armor-plated space hearse and I like the smokey effect of the engines.

The explanation for the smoke was interesting and makes sense, but watching TROS I could just imagine the corporate meeting room where a designer is taking heat for not making the bad guy ship look more obviously evil, going "fine, what if we make black smoke come out the back even though no other ship in the movies do that" and the execs going "holy shit what a good idea they are gonna look so damn evil, lets go get steaks"
i think they should have been introduced towards the end of TFA, they should have been the ones to recover Kylo after he was wounded by Rey perhaps having a short battle where by sheer numbers they over power her and force her to run away. ultimately they needed more screen time, some actual vocal lines and some back story, thankfully we have these books to fill in the gaps.
The basic lines of the ship are actually quite nice, although to me they speak to a larger ship I'd like to see a ~300-400 meter ship using a similar hull form and engine layout, but with bilateral symmetry for the systems and a more respectable paint job. I'm thinking either a pearl white with race stripes and /or some nice aztecing and dazzle camo.

Although this ship slightly looks cool, if you know about the Knights of Rens' Flagship from Colin Trevorrow's unreleased script (Episode 9 Duel of The Fates), which is called the Knife-9, then you'd know that the Knife-9 makes the Night Buzzard even worse than Jabba's Sail Barge.
Knights of Ren must be the silliest group of antagonists ever put to film, let alone Star Wars. They are a prime assasin group, after which the main villain of the trilogy is named after.... And they only appear in the last part of trilogy, and all they do is walk into shots menacingly and later get beaten up by one guy. All dressed in useless Iron Maiden gear, and fighting with mediavel weaponry (not even vibro/plasma blades, like Snoke's guards did), in the world, where blaster guns and invincible laser swords exist. Whooooooh, the horror.
They fucked this trilogy. If they were to have a real role they needed to be in 8. Squeezing them in to the last movie is just another blunder. They weren’t in 8, blame Rian so be it, but JJ should have just left the “knights of ren” as a throwaway line to be explored in other media rather than shoehorning them in at the last second. Love or hate TLJ it was canon and JJ just trying to make his own trilogy in the back half just screwed everything up more than TLJ did. He should have just followed TLJ’s lead and go from there and make good on those story beats and characters.

I'm unsure. It's hard to compare as we can't really test it ourselves and our weapons aren't really used in star wars.
